Graphing is yet another method used to

solve systems of linear equations. Today we

will learn to solve the system by graphing

by using the equations :

3x - y = 4

5x + 3y = 9

 


The first step is to solve both

equations for y. This form is known

as " y = mx + b. "

  • 3x - y = 4 ===>> y = 3x + 4
  •  
  • 5x + 3y = 9 ===>> y = - (5/3) x + 3
The second step is to graph the

equations. The graph is shown

below.
The solution is the point where the

lines intersect. In this case the

solution is :

( 1.5 , 0.5 )

or

x = 1.5 and y = 0.5

 

 

 

Now that you have learned all three methods, try the word problem.
