Linear Combination

1. 3x + 5y =-16

2. 3x - 2y =-9

1. 3x + 5y = -16

2. 3x - 2y = -9

You would begin by multiplying one equation by -1 so that 1 variable will cancel out.
-3x - 5y = 16

3x -2y = -9

Then you add the equations together
-7y = 7 Then you would solve for that one variable
y = -1 you would then go back to using substitution and insert your answer into one of the above variables
3x - 2(-1) = -9 Solve for that variable
x = -11/3 put your answers together
(-11/3, -1) the end
