Math made easy!

This information could be some use to you in math class!

2x +y=6

3x +4y=4

3x + 4 ( 6 - 2x)

3x + 24 -8x = 4

-5x = -20
/ -5     /-5

X= 4

2 (4) + y=6
8 + y=6
-8     -8

Y= -2

First solve for y because the y term has a coefficient of 1.
Since y equals 6-2x we can substitute it into the second equation. Since we did this we now have an equation with one variable instead of 2. Now we can solve for x. Then use the distributive property, to get the equation 3x + 24 -8x = 4., Then combine the x's, to get -5x=-20. Then divide by five and you get that x equals 4. Then take the value for x and put it back into the firs equation 2x + y =6. Multiply the 2 times the 4 and you get 8 + y=6. Then subtract the 8, and you end up with y equal to -2.

Now we're going to do a linear combination problem.......
3x - 4y= -1
-3x + 2y=0

-3x + 2y + ( 3x - 4y) = 0 +1(-1)

3x - 4y =-1 + -3x + 2y=0 = -2y = -1
-2y =-1
/ -2 /-2
Y= 1/2

-3x + 2y =0
-3x +2 (1/2) =0
-3x + 1 =0
-1          -1
/-3         /-3
X=1/3

We are given the first two equations, yet we must determine that  3x - 4y and -1 are equal. In learning this we can add these to their sides on the second problem. After this we can add the new equation. Then after combining the equation we can break it down into simply -2y = -1. Then just divide by -2 and we get that y = 1/2. Then plug the 1/2 back into the second equation and we get  -3x +2 (1/2) =0. Then distribute the 2, and we end up with -3x + 1=0. Subtract the one, and then divide by -3. We end up with X equal to 1/3.
