Solving linear equations blah, blah, blah... How to do them.

Problem Solved Comments

5x+11=7x-9
You start out with your basic liner equation.

11=7x-9
      -5x
First you want to get your x on one side of the equation only.

11=2x-9
Now you are ready for your second step.

11=2x-9
+9      +9
Next you must get the number on the opposite side of the equation from the variable,you do this by adding the number to both sides.

20=2x
This brings you to your final step, dividing.

20/2x
This will get you the value of x.

10=x
Or x=10.

Solving Literal Equations different but the same... How to do them.

E=F/A, find f
Let's start with an easy one.

EA=F
To solve this equation all you have to do is reverse the operations. If E=F/A, then EA=F.
Now for a harder one!

K=mgh, find h
Because you are looking for h, you know that h is being multiplied by m and g to get K. So all you have to do is divide K by m and g.

K/mg=h
See? Simple.

Now we are going to write equations. Whooopeee.

slope intercept form y=mx+b
This is slope intercept form and it is perfect for the    equation of a line.

This form is simple. M is the slope of the line. B is the y intercept of the line. Plug a point into the equation and it will graph the line.
The form that is like x+y=3 is also simple. This is called standard form. Just rearange it to y=mx+b form and it is simple.
This equation would be y=1x+3. Since there is no given slope, it is interpreted as 1.
The final form is the f of x {f(x)} form. This can be the hardest form because it is harder to plug the points into. The equation is written like this:
f(x)=mx+b. Whatever the x in () is, all x variables are this value. Then just treat it like regular y=mx+b form.
