Also, at his age you might want to put him on a bottle with KMR. He is still young enough to nurse and needs to do so. Even if he can lap liquid and/or eat solid food, nursing from a bottle would be very beneficial to him emotionally and it will make your bond with him even stronger. I LOVE nursing baby kittens almost as much as I did nursing my daughter. lol BTW......I think I have THE perfect name. You keep calling him the little peep....how about just PEEP or MR. PEEPERS!!. :) Brenda.... ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 15:55:21 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: Re: Name suggestions - to Brenda Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Brenda- HOW ON EARTH do you get him to use the bottle?!? I've been downstairs with him now for an hour and he's not interested. Maybe I need to make the hole bigger in the end of the nipple? My son was trying to sorta squeeze the nipple to dribble the KMR into his mouth which was sorta working but he still wasn't getting the hang of what to do! I tried to stick the nipple in the side of his mouth and he was fighting me all the way... WAaaaaaaah :-(( Oh, and BTW.... Also, you might want to try the (human) baby ear or nose bulb - I really don't remember the actual name (someone with kids might know??). It is a rubber bulb shaped thingy with a long narrow spout - it's used to flush ears out, but can be used to suck out the mucous from his little nostriles too. Also you can get some liquid pediatric formula Benadryl and give hime 1-2 drops (way less than a full grown cat or a human baby gets) to help alleviate some of the congestion helping him to breath too. It has helped me some to think of my beloved Chessie as a shining new angel. And, thank you for your sympathy. I wrote it to Barb to let her know that I really did understand her grief even though I haven't lost one to Feleuk. I think what made Chessie's death so much harder was the fact that I have never lost a kitty suddenly to a disease. I have lost two other cats who were both in their 20's and were ready to go to a better place. I had months to see them declining in old age. That grief was hard enough, but to have my precious, gentle Chessie for 14 years with never a day of illness to suddenly go from a seemingly healthy kitty to death in 10 days has been overwhelming for me. Even though I have 7 other cats, I am lost without my Chessie kitty. Thank you again for your kind thoughts. :) Brenda.........http://badger.win.bright.net/~bksmith (if you want to see a picture of Chessie) PS......I DO know that so many of you have suffered the loss of your babies. I have quietly cried for all of them each time each one passed on. ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 16:27:12 -0500 From: "Brenda K. Do it each time until he is readily sucking the nipple. When a cat's nose is stuffed from URI, they lose their appetites because they can't smell or taste the food. If the honey doesn't help, force feed him with a dropper, spoon or whatever being careful to let him swallow after each drop so that he doesn't aspirate it into his lungs. Most of all....keep trying to get him to nurse along with solid or slurpy food. Be sure to hold him horizontally with his head slightly raised. I always put my baby kittens on my knee on their tummys with head very slightly raised when nursing. > Oh, and BTW.... Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, It's so good to hear Merlin is doing so well. My Merlin always slept on my pillow with me. He just wouldn't sleep anywhere else. Indiana Jones is doing very well. He is my Merlin clone just about, but HE is healthy and growing like crazy. I love him dearly and I know Merlin brought him to me. He sleeps with me after he is done tearing around the room. barb ---------------------------------------- From: "RDC" To: Subject: Re: Debby's little one Date sent: Mon, 14 Sep 1998 04:01:36 +0200 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi, a good alternate to the steamy bathroom is camilla inhalation for the little one. Just make a big pot of hot camilla tea and put it under something like a lattice, maybe a wickerwork chair - a friend of mine uses the lattice taken out of the fridge, Then put the baby on the lattice so it has to breathe the camilla steam (right word?), and put a basket over it, partly covered with a towel. It should have this treatment every day for ten minutes. Don't forget to wrap him in a dry, warm towel afterwards, and don't let him jump off with a wet fur. With the nostrils closed, Hepar Sulfuris D12 would help it out, any time better than stuffing antibiotics in such a tiny body. Use Lachesis D12 when the nostrils are swollen. As for eating, try a few drops of red wine in a fresh (!) egg yellow, maybe mix some Nutrical or instant concentration kitten diet into it. Try to have him lick from your fingers, maybe tip a bit at the side of the mouth to have him lick it off, or tip a bit on his tongue with your finger. If he washes himself, smear a bit on his leg so he licks it off. That way, you'll only get tiny amounts into him, so you'll have to do it more often and maybe make it a game, wave your finger around in front of his eyes (with the smear on it) and they go 'tiptip, gotcha, buddy' or some such. A kitten as trustful as yours might enjoy this for quite a while, so you can get quite a bit into it. If you forcefeed, just let it squirt into him dropwise. That might take ages, but is better than having half of it backwards in the nose. Hope this helps a bit, Rena ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 22:19:46 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: Re: Re: Debby's little one Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Yup... I've tried it all. He WILL NOT take the bottle... the only way I'm getting him to eat at all is by taking some KMR and mooshing it up with some canned IAMS and then feeding it to him on a spoon.. he'll lick off about 3/4 of a spoonful. I've been trying to do this every 3 hrs . or so..... Also..... a breeder friend of mine said to try some baby chicken food too with the KMR so I'll do that in a bit now also... Poor baby...... I just wish he could feel better but I did put a vaporizer in the bathroom this afternoon and will keep that going all the time now. I'll keep you posted and thanks SO much for your concern - just knowing you're all out there and worrying along with me helps :-) Debby, & the HBG (the HairballGang) ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 22:26:58 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: Re: The little peep is home -to Diane Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net this little kitty is waaaaaaaay too tiny- trust me , he'd get lost in my son's room! this bathroom is a perfect kitty size.:-) We've been down there probably 10 hrs. today off and on..... we're going to have one VERY spoiled kitty here :-) Debby, & the HBG (the HairballGang) ---------------------------------------- END
