Saturday September 12, 1998 Part 1 20 Messages ======================================== From: WORKPARK@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 04:14:33 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Panda Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Francine, Trust me, you're not the only one. Rissa-Tai is the expert at hiding and spitting out pills. I explained this to them at the vet's office, and so they tried pilling her once with the two meds. They did the first one, thought it had gone down, then the second one, and she went PUH! and out came the first pill, beleive it or not. Then PUH again, and there was the second. This time with the pills, we got a pill popper, and if nothing else, it holds her tongue down some and we can get the pill further back in her mouth so she can't get that tongue moving and spit it out or hide it as easily, although she still does that. We still have found, just last week for example, a pill on the living room floor. Who knows how long it was there - that day, or whenever? They are sneaky little critters, aren't they? But, you can still pill them the "normal" way with it, so that works too. Also, it crushes very easily, so it's easier to crush and mix with something else than just about any pill we've had to give either cat. Every cat I have will get deathly ill with vomiting, etc. with Clavamox. When my vet tries to prescribe it, I say NO....give me Baytril. It works as well. > We always found that despite > the size, that Baytril was always pretty effective in fighting infections. It is fairly new and supposed to be very tasty for cats. :) Brenda..... ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 00:34:16 -0500 From: "Brenda K. Lefty took it on at least 2 occasions and it helped him with no ill effects from it...and now Jodi is on it for her infections and she has a wonderful appetite and looks great. She even ran and played the other day and she doesn't do that very often. It may have some nasty effects, but fortunately, we haven't seen any of them. I am deeply sorry for your loss of Chessie; I have been there too (Panther, May '98) and many others, as have we all. Gut wrenching is certainly an appropriate description. May your pain be eased with each passing day. Nancy ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 09:27:14 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. With the newer methods available that you've read about, you may just have the good fortune of having him with you for a long time. At least there's hope now where there wasn't 10 years ago. If I see any signs of Panda being sick or not eating properly, I'll stop the Clavamox. (Giving his little tummy a rest from this stuff might not be a bad idea for a day.) I should have been thinking when he suggested the Clavamox. My dog once got sick from them, too. Francine ---------------------------------------- From: chere@nwnexus.com (Cheryl A. Misha has had it a number of times with no ill effects. I guess it just depends on the individual kitty. The good thing is, however, that if Misha does have a reaction after taking it, I will have been alerted about it beforehand. So once again the group is to be thanked! The name that comes to my mind is "Sparky" because he is the spark in your eye. Since the little guy is so young has the vet mentioned to maybe bottle feed him to get some nutrients into him? Our fingers and paws are crossed for the baby. My Zack weighed only one lb and, by his teeth, he WAS 8 wks old. He was so weak he couldn't hold his head up by himself. He is now my "Moose boy" and the biggest cat in the house at 14lbs! I would suggest some kitten formula. You can buy a can and add water. It's very good for these weak little ones. If he hasn't figured out how to drink milk yet, just tip his nose in it, they catch on pretty quick or let him lick it off your fingers. Good Luck. barb ---------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 18:30:26 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: The little Peeep Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi again Debby JoAnn just reminded me that all of our guys never did care too much for the Iams kitten. They loved the Friskies kitten food in the can as well as Purina in the milk carton box. They got the Iams when they where adults, that is what they eat now along with Nutro's natural. I fought over the same thing with bringing in our kittens but I became so attached and I could not imagine anyone else raising them because I knew that I would offer them a much better home. As far as the vaccination, our vet said that there are vaccines that are 85 % effective to some that are 98 % effective and that she uses the one that is 98% effective. We too discused the risks, and before I introduced them to the household they had 2 booster shots. AND, Zachary 4 years latter of living with Sophia and Rubin came back FeLv -!! Remember Sophia is his sister. I am glad that Poncho is feeling better too. At least she is still eating, that is a very good sign!! It keeps a long time that way. You have to add water to that kind.
