You might also want to take a look at the information sheet that you can access through the angelfire site. It has lots of good info on Prozyme, Pet-tinic, DMG, and Ambrotose, all of which should help you. You will also find lots of support from the people here. If you have any questions about any of the above, just ask. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nan, One of the strangest phenomena that I've noticed from being on this list for seven months now and have discussed with a few listmembers off the list is that we seem to go in cycles. All the kitties will be ok to good for awhile, and then there will be several major illnesses and deaths in a row. So far, it's been unexplainable, but who knows, in all seriousness, it may be the weather, or even the phases of the moon - after all, cats are nocturnal animals, so it may actually have something to do with it. If anyone can figure this out, I'd surely like to know what is going on as well. In retrospect, Rissa-Tai has been at her worst at another time when we had a down cycle, and she got ill again about two weeks ago, when this cycle started as well. I am so happy to hear about how Panda made it through that difficult ordeal. I hope he pulls through this one with shining colors. I don't know much about the new treatments out there but I'm learning every day more and more about them because of this list. The people on the list are amazing. An amazing source of information and support. Best of luck to you and Panda. I went through the same thing with my little Tut as you are going through with your precious Ninja. In two weeks Tut went from 9# to 6# and developed tumors and a heart murmor. He also ate less and less. He would only take one or two bites of food. Then he would throw it up later or get diarhea. It killed me to see him slowly fading. I also had the "if you need to let go" talk with him. He would go into a dark place and just lay there. I knew what I had to do but then I questioned "Am I doing it too soon? But when I looked into his eyes I knew it was time. Either Ninja will tell you or you'll know in your heart when its time. As crazy as this sounds, when he passed I was relieved that his suffering was over. Don't get me wrong I loved my Tut but I cried over him and watched him become so ill for a month or so before he passed. I was relieved that he was no longer sick or suffering. And I miss him sooooooo much, I cry often. Tut will always be in my heart as Ninja will be in yours. My vet sent me a sympathy card and I think it says it very well: THE SADDEST DAY WITH YOUR CAT, WAS ALSO THE KINDEST, When the time comes may it comfort you to know that your baby will be at peace. Barb, we're here for you. If you need anything please contact me ! I'll cry with you or scream with you or pray with you. I'm sending you and Ninja a great big hug and all the healing vibes and prayers that I can. God bless ! I've been in tears almost everytime I was successful in getting at the mail - we are having server troubles in my area which they seem able to fix only for a short while - so I was able to send only few messages! I am so sorry for all the little ones we have lost, and more so for the mums that lost them! And now Barb and Ninja - what can I say, I am thinking of you constantly with love! I am watching Schurli like a hawk, I think I am getting paranoic, but he looks and acts a lot more 'business as usual', I am glad to report. I have started his second course of BAYPAMUN last Tuesday, as planned. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nan, Pam and all, Yes, I mentioned once before in a private email to someone on here that this thing tends to go in cycles. But there is one more thing I noticed, too. Usually, it is right after one of these nasty periods of time with much sorrow and suffering that there is a personality blow up here, too. Our little 'cat fights' are not the result of anything more than the stress we live with every day. We are very much like family and as any family going through lots of stress and problems, we may have little out-bursts that help us release some of this frustration. I just wanted to make that little addition to the 'cycles' we go through so we can all kind of watch for it and try to prevent it from getting out of hand. I personally have been trying to be careful with my posts because it seems that all of these episodes have been triggered by a seemingly innocent post. Let's all just be a little more careful when we see that we are at this low point in the cycle...this is the time when we are all very vulnerable. A post which might go by un-noticed at another time can cause tempers to flare during our low times. Love and kitty kisses to all...we're in this together. I do not know much about all the treatments, our Rubin whom has a similiar story as your Panda was treated with chemotherapy (vincrestine) he was postive since the age of 5, we lost him this past May at the age of 12. Have you brought him back to Cornell? I know that our vet was thinking of using interferon with Rubin in the end but she chose a chemo treatmnet that was a bit more aggresive. I cannot remember the name of it, maybe someone else on the list might know. (I lost all my email from the list) With him it started to kick in but his bone marrow was so infiltrated with the cancer that it was too late. His bone marrow just shut down. It was expensive, over 100.00 each injection and he had to stay at the office for 4 hours after to watch for side effects. I know that you will find this list full of caring people and lots of info on treatments Good luck with Panda Gina ---------------------------------------- From: "James G. (Before I start, I apologize in advance if my message is a bit garbled. I'm a little upset.) My name is Ally and I was on this list some time ago but had to leave because of various reasons. Anyway, I am kind of desperate here. My Catsby went through the Immunoregulin IV and finished the treatment about one month ago. He was doing incredible while he was on the treatment, until the very last IV. After that last one, he came down with pneumonia. (Obviously he is still testing positive for the felv.) Now, he's got a secondary infection where he is vomitting mucus/saliva. (the doctoe says it is an irritated bowel disease? where his stomach is gettign irritated.) Well, he has been on Reglan, but now I think he is immune to it. Catsby has been this way for about a month now. We take him in, they give him injectible reglan, then he is fine for up to 2 weeks, then he starts throwing up again, we bring him in again, they give him the injectible reglan, then he was fine for another 1 or 2 weeks. then it happened again, gave him the injectible stuff, it worked for 3 days, then we finally just went in and brought home some injectible reglan to give him ourselves. (by the way, during the times when he was fine after the injectible reglan, we were giving him the pill version of the reglan and he was fine at first.) well, that was yesterday and the reglan doesn't seem to be working anymore. He seems a little better, still vomitting but not as much as before. Other than this, he seems fine: still purring, seems happy not droopy, when he is not throwing up he eats well... what should I do? My fiance and I talked about letting him "go", b ut when we said that, catsby came out of nowhere, started headbutting us and purring really loud, then started to play. It's like he was telling us that he wasn't ready to go just yet! So, we're not going to do that, we're going to keep fighting. But I wanted to ask your advice: how should I treat him? ANy meds I should consider? holistic and conventional, i don't care, as long as he is comfortable. He's in no pain, i can tell that much, but I need to help him stop the vomitting. Any suggestions? thank in advance, and sorry this is such an abrupt message. I guess I am "freaking out" right now Ally ---------------------------------------- From: "royale" To: Subject: Re: ninja Date sent: Sat, 5 Sep 1998 20:16:05 +0200 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I am so terribly sorry - the hardest part is loving them while feeling that they are already gone.... Also, you could e-mail CruzBayMan@aol.com , his web site Sylvia's Journey of New Hope (there's a link on the Treatments Page) discusses cancer research on acemannan and he could update you on the latest info. He says it's use against cancer is controversial among researchers and vets, some say it's promising and some are skeptical. If your vet thinks Acemannan could help Panda they could call Carrington Labs, the ph.# is on the Treatments Page. Does anyone on the list know if Dr. Yates is still there? I have a kitty with IBD and had been treating him with prednisone shots. But, lately I have been working with my vet and we are now giving him Pepcid AC and Periactin - the Pepcid for the vomiting and Periactin to increase his appetite. If you want the dosage and such, e-mail me privately and I'll be happy to give you the info. So far it seems to be working very well!!!
