I don't know what I'd do without you guys for support! Not many people understand how much I love Ninja. She's everywhere in my life; from my passwords to my answering machine to the wallpaper on my PC. I haven't heard from the vet yet, but I will post after I talk to her. She's on her second FeLV+ kitty at home, so she knows what it's like. Thanks again! It is highly concentrated and gives strength, also. If the cat likes raw eggs (the yellow only) mix a few drops of red wine under it - this is a good appetite stimulater. A little dextrose or glucose mixed in the drinking water (1 teaspoon in a cup of water) stimulates appetite also. (don't do this when a cat has diarrhoe) Hope this helps.. Once she found out it was Ninja, she was confident about her diagnosis. The cells were very fragile and many were broken - the vet used the term 'blastic'. Ninja's wbc was at 19000 and her rbc was down to 22. Her gums are paler than they were as well. I'll be talking to her again tomorrow after I speak with Linda P. tonight about other options. My vet is very open to these different treatments and welcomes all the information I've been able to pass along to her. I can't afford chemo and wouldn't want to stress her anyway - she's so gentle and shy. I asked about prognosis and how much time she may have left and depending on how strong Ninja is and how aggressive the cancer is, days to weeks. My heart is breaking at what's coming, but each day with her has been a wondrous gift. BTW, it's really hard to have a good cry when you're at work!! Not only that, but my contacts are all blurry now. Ninja gets irritated when I cry on her and get her fur all wet. I'll post again tomorrow. You might consider getting a more pure type of thymus called Thymic Protein A. You can get it on the net. The Q10, I give 10mg, twice a day. It should be given with fatty food like canned. Ariel weighs about 9 and half pounds, so if you have a huge cat, you might want to give a tad more of the thymus hormone. barb ---------------------------------------- From: "Mandy Crerar" To: Subject: Re: Titch Date sent: Tue, 1 Sep 1998 21:29:06 +0200 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Thanks Linda P for the tip about dried alfalfa. Unfortunately, I found an felv stray a few weeks ago who passed away last weekend. We did so much to help him, and the end was surely not as I had hoped. However, it was very touching to be part of the service and to know that he had a very proper send off to a better place. (Thanks, Barb, for all you did and for contributing Kelsey's and my name to the service.) I was extremely touched and strengthened by the candle service! I was very teary as I read it, but also very ensured that he is in good hands now! Thank you for your support and caring! ---------------------------------------- From: "James G. It's been quite a while since I've been on here. I've been working a second job since the beginning of August, and I was away all last week, so I haven't had any time to even get near my computer. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to leave the list for now, until my schedule changes and I have the energy to go through all the mail. Kiegan and Oyster are doing fine. Kiegan had a scary little bit two weeks ago with a URI, but he's back to his old self now and doing great. Needless to say, I pretty much had a heart attack over the whole thing, because I was in Long Island for the weekend for my friend's wedding, and so my mom told me over the phone that she had taken him into the vet. He had a fever, had lost 1 1/4 pounds, wasn't eating, had a bad cough, and a runny eye. They ran some bloodwork and did X-rays and everything. The X-rays didn't show a thing, but his bloodwork showed that he was fighting some sort of infection. We got him on some antibiotics and some eye drops, and now he seems even more active and frisky than before I left. I'm SO relieved. I think I might re-run the bloodwork to make sure everything is back to normal, but I want to see what the vet thinks tomorrow. Oyster is getting HUGE! I can't believe how big he is already. He's such a sweetie, and Kiegan absolutely loves him. The two of them have a great time together. Well, I'm sorry this got to be so long. Thank you all so much for all of your help. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can get back onto the list. I hope everyone and their kitties are doing well!!! I miss you guys!! One thought tho - when we were doing chemo on Rissa-Tai, it was only 1/4 of a pill a day, and the prescription through Walgreen's Pharmacy was less than $10. Hold on, let me get the receipt. Ok, I lied, but it still wasn't too bad. What we used was called Alkeran, 2 mg. tabs (generic name is Melphalan). They charged $25.59 for 10 pills. We gave it to her 1/4 pill a day for 10 days, then every other day, so it went pretty far. Have you tried talking to an oncologist? The only thing that I have to add is that it does say in the patient info booklet that this medicine lowers your resistance to infection and may reduce the number of blood cells needed for clotting. I think we may even have some left, if you need it, let me know and I can dig it out and find out how much is left and send it to you. Please post and let us know how both of you are doing. It's pretty good stuff and helps a lot, so it would be worth a look.. Jeez, it can be bought at every pharmacy, you won't even need a recipe.. Maybe you just have it with a different name..
