Jack is funny. Since he can't hear he just walks by the others when they growl. Harley has such a funny look on his face when it happens. It's like he can't believe his growl isn't being taken seriously. I think he is just scared and disliked the small kennel. He's quietened down a lot since I let him out of the bedroom. Now if Harley would just quiet down. It'll take them a few days to get used to each other. There's all types of appetite stimulators your vet can help you with. Although there is some controversy over the use of steroids in FeLV+ cats, Prednisone is widely used to do this as well. You may want to take a look at the link to the question/answer page from the angelfire site, there is some information there specifically pertaining to diet. Also, there is some controversy about Nutrical, but it has been widely used before we ound out about one ingredient in it - it's a nutritional paste (looks like Petromalt) that if you can get two Tablespoons a day into him, gives him all the nutrition he needs as a short term solution. There are other types of pastes that perform the same function, unfortunately, I can't remember the names of them right now. Good luck, and keep us posted to Sampson's doings. He was also on chemotherapy and antibiotics (Baytril) and of course Predisone. The valium was very effective, within a few weeks he was eating again on his own. The thing with valium you have to give it time to work. At the time he was being force fed wet food. Our vet told us that anything we could get him to eat was good just to get the weight back on him. He went from beiing 18 pounds to 9 back up to a wopping 20 pounds with the valium. His diet consisted of any wet food that he would eat and dry Iams (ad lib). That was his first go around with the diesease being active, he lasted 5 more years after that. I am sure that you will find a ton of information on this list as well as suggestions. There are many wonderful people hereGood Luck Gina ---------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 11:20:36 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Re: Re: Jake Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri They sound absolutley wonderful. It's practically pure albumin. The Yoke is almost all protein. Animals must not tolerate the white well. barb ---------------------------------------- From: "CJH" To: Subject: anorexic cat Date sent: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 15:15:37 -0500 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Thank you all for your responses regarding Samson. Poor baby - I'm in a state of panic. I don't know what to do anymore. He's so fragile. This AM Sam ate a about a tsp of yogurt and my husband was able to get him to eat a little chicken. Right now I opened a can of Precise canned food but the only way he'll eat it is if I douse it with a Fatty Acid Oil Supplement that I get from my vet. It contains flax oil, corn oil, cod liver oil, and vitamin e oil. His eyes have started to get kind of oozy and he seems weak. His ears and foot pads are cold - which I'm told are a sign that his body could be shutting down. I guess I'm at the point of not knowing what to do. Do I try everything available to me to keep him going or should I just keep him as comfortable as possible. I was thinking of trying some Essiac tea. I just don't know what do. Thanks for letting me vent. I noticed there are a lot of Nancy's on the list, how many are there? I was getting confused, not many people have my name. Which I sware must mean "Animal Lover" in some language; somewhere. I found all the info very helpful and Zelda appreciates it. I am going to take her back to the vet in a couple of weeks, once she has gained a little weight and is a bit more comfortable here. I dont want to stress her out to much. Her coughing has stopped and so has the sneezing, I shut the air conditioning vents in our bedroom where she sleeps. Thanks again to everyone Nancy M. <<Clumberluv's Home Page <<< I will be making a page with pics. of Zelda as soon as I can get some space back. ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 20:37:13 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. Nancy S. ---------------------------------------- From: "Cheri Gardiner" To: Subject: Re: Jake Date sent: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 20:00:13 -0600 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Barb, Merlin seems to be fine. Tonight he's a little lethargic. He ate a bit breakfast and has a tummy ache. He was playing earlier today. He had his distemper shot a couple days before Mouse got sick. They didn't have any direct contact with body fluids. I don't have anything Mouse used still here. He has captured my heart. That's a magic trick he performed quite easily. HB is climbing a six foot ladder. He likes sitting on the top. Roku is doing fine. She got out of the bedroom this afternoon. I had put her back in there. She climbed up and got out between the kiddy gates. There's duct tape over the holes now. Makes it a little hard for me to get in there, but it works. Zelda has a nice ring to it. Someone on another list just posted this site on FIV, so I thought I'd pass the info along: http//www.superhit.com/simon.html I found it informative though I've just had time to skim it. It also has info on URIs and mouth ulcers which felv kits suffer from too. I am not sure what their feelings are on FeLV+ cats but you may want to give them a call. Another alternative vet may be the vet my mother uses in marietta/austell area called CAT CARE..770-424-6369...its a place just for cats.....hope this may help...if you need anything else, pls ask...
