My vet has since the very beginning, and we haven't had any problems. As far as the DMG goes, if you can continue it with the Ambrotose, I think you should. Will Jake let you give him liquid meds? Rissa-Tai gets her Interferon every third day through a syringe, as well as the DMG, .25 cc per day in liquid form, also with a syringe. I get the liquid DMG from KV vet supply. Maybe liquid form is the way to go with the DMG, it might be easier that way. Also, I mix the Ambrotose in with the dry food, 1/4 tsp. for every two cups of dry. Maybe this way would work for you as well? Our vet alernated his legs so that it gave the other one time to heal some. WE did not get to doing the injections sq so I am not sure how effective they would be. I am glad that he is feeling well and playing. And I am glad the ImmunoRegulin has helped him so much. It is a drug that is much maligned by some. Those of us that have seen what it can do need to stand up for it as an optional treatment. I think if you let the veins heal for a month or so, they should be ok. There are people who have donated gallons of blood and they use the same vein most of the time. It's IV's that can tear up and scar up a vein to the point where it can't be used because of the chemicals and drugs they put through them that often leak out and damage the vein. The exception being IV drug users who are not very careful when they use them and use them several times a day. Perhaps doing it on a rotational basis will help cut down on the wear and tear. Have you added Thymus hormone to the treatments. I really think it will help. There is a thymic protein A you can buy on the net that is a pure type. I have a letter from a girl who used it with ImmunoRegulin with very good results. I can sent it if you want. barb ---------------------------------------- From: "George & Nancy" To: "Felv" Subject: jake Date sent: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 08:51:42 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, I'm glad that Jake is doing well! You can check with your local health food store or order it directly from Hanna's Herb Shop in Boulder, CO at 800-206-6722. Bottle has 100 capsules and costs $12.50. We use 1/2 capsule per cat mixed into wet food. He started out with the usual protocol with the vet. At the end of the IV's, the vet started SQ and then left it up to me. I give it to him twice a week if he is feeling real bad but usually once a week. It has been a miracle for him. It sure makes a difference. When he gets down, I give him an injection and he perks up after awhile. He also has been on the interferon since December which was a blessing. Of the two, DMG and Ambrotose, Ambrotose seems to be helping Stinker alot. I too, have cut back on alot of "stuff" as he has been having alot of trouble accepting it due to his mouth. If ever your kitty is in alot of pain, this new pain medication that I just got has made a world of difference in Stinker. This is the first time I have seen him without pain for such a long, long time. He gets to be a happy kitty, at least for the time being.:) Everytime I start to loose hope, something comes along. Hugs to you and Jake!:).........................Lynn(Stinker) ---------------------------------------- From: katseven@pcsia.com Date sent: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 09:43:26 -0600 Subject: re: Jake & scarring To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Nancy, Here is a suggestion for speeding up the healing of scars from the Encyc. of Natural Pet Care. --Willard Water which can be mixed in wet food, substituted for regular water, or applied topically. (p. 296) (Buy at Health food store) Anitra Frazier, the New Natural Cat (p. 271), says you can rub vit. E directly on the area provided there is no apparent scab. Since you said Jake doesn't like stuff mixed in his food I won't type out the "supplements for Infections and wounds" but let me know if you'd like it and I'll do it. George's front legs are also heavily scarred--not just from the Immuno. injections but from his former life as a tom-about-town. ;-) The vets have switched to using his back legs, so I will also be using the above treatments to promote healing. I agree w/ you on not stressing out Jake w/ tons of pills or even injections. if I can't get George's veins to heal, I'll prob decide to drop the Immuno. IV because it's too damn painful for the little guy. I've heard sub-q's aren't too hard once you get it down, but I'm dreading that because I have an aversion to needles. I guess I'll just get over it:-P ! I am so glad to hear Jake is being playful and eating like he should. Good Boy! I gave it a flea bath, lots of food and water, some vitamans and toys. I took her to the vet Thursday Morning and she has FIV. I have another cat in the house who does not have FIV. We are calling her Zelda. She is pure white, not a mark on her. And she is as sweet as can be. She crawled right up in bed with us. I tried desperatley to find her a home but nobody wanted a cat with FIV. We have decided to keep the kitty. We will put bi-fold doors at the top of our stairs and each cat will have a floor of the house to itself. I really dont think she has much time. When she purrs she looses her breath and coughs and she seems to sneeze a lot. I would feel horrible if I didnt let her live out the rest of her life knowing that she is loved. She is just to sweet to not try. I think she might have 3 months if she is lucky. She doesnt eat much even though there is plenty of fresh food and water around for her. She doesnt use the litter box much either. I think it is just a matter of time, but at least I can give her some love untill that time comes. I know nothing about this disease; dogs are my speciallty (Clumber Spaniels) I have tons of questions if anybody knows the answers I would love to hear back. 1. How will I know that the disease is taking its toll? 2. How long will she have? She has lost 3-4 teeth already and sneezes a lot. When she purrs she looses her breath and chokes a little. I know its not that long. 3. What kind of special care should she recieve? Apparently, his veins are bad because of the Immunoregulin shots. He is a tiny cat anway and his veins are small. He is on Pet Tinnic twice daily. My vet did alternate between the 2 front legs but not the back. Do you think she should have been including the 2 back legs. (I don't mean to put you on the spot to vet bash, but I am having some small misgivings that are adding up about her lately). The liquid DMG sounds like just the ticket--I was aware of the liquid form but once against forgot about it--thank you! As far as the ambrotose on the dry food, this is difficult because all my cats are together and therefore I would have to use a lot more in order for Jake to reap the benefits. As you know, Ambrotose is fairly expensive. Hope Rissa Tai is doing better and again, thank you, Pam--you've solved once of my major problems. In her food has been the only way to get Rissa-Tai to eat it. I will say that Lai-Tai and her also share food. Lai-Tai has been more energetic, and her fur has gotten much thicker. I know the expense is an issue, but it isn't bad for the other cats. If it's the only way to get it in him, it might be a last option. Good luck! Platelets are needed for proper blood clotting, hence the easy bruising. Next time you have blood work done, make sure it is included. That might explain why the veins scarred so quickly. barb ---------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 20:33:31 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Re: Jake Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy Hi the first go around was 5 years ago, he was still favoring his right front leg. He had a slight limp, not much, and it was much weaker than the other legs. He was in remision for 4 1/2 years. So he did not have all the injections and bloodwork during the 5 years but It did stay that way up until he passed away this past Memorial Day. Sometimes we wondered if he go so used to favoring it that when he was not in all the injections he just made us think that it still bothered him. Because our vet said that his veins should have healed up within a few months of his injections ending. Gina ---------------------------------------- END
