Are you giving her that "Vital Charge" or something like it that you put on the info sheet? It's ironic how corticosteroids can be both a treatment and a cause for hemobart. Tell her to stay stress free and keep eating, we need our "poster girl". She sounds adorable, and your vet does not think you are crazy, She knows that you care. Her coloring is the same as my Sophia's whom we named after Sophia Loren. and our lab mix dog Caroline. To tell you the truth I search through baby name books looking for names. I hope all is well at the vets. Keep us posted on all of your furbabies Gina ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 00:12:34 +0200 From: Christina Marie Hayton To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Optimistic Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi list! After all of the sorrow we've felt the last few months, and the hard times many of you are going through, I thought I'd share some wonderful news we got today. We took a new bloodtest of two of our cats - both for FIV, FELV and FIP. The results we got back today show that they were both negative for FIV and FELV, and that their corona titer-level is almost down to nothing now. So now we FINALLY feel that we can start planning future kittens, and start looking to the future. I am so thankful today, and have given our cats extra special treats to celebrate! A new little one. You're starting to remind me of me. I took in a positive kitty just last weekend and he now has an URI that he must have picked up at the vets he was boarded at for two weeks. Just when I had everybody healthy! As to the name. She is still here and still healthy, but my Ariel is marked like that and is felv positive. But she is doll. barb ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 15:03:54 -0700 From: Robert Frank Organization: A.R.F., Inc. The gentle nose taps force the cat to breathe in and they automatically swallow. I interrupts their air supply but not in a bad way. Hence, no holding pills in their mouth and spitting them out later. Hope it works. It did the trick for HK and he was a notorius hider and spitter of pills. Love to you and the baby and good luck. I am so happy that you got good news--and that you shared it with all of us. It seems we have had more than our share of sorrow these past few weeks. It is great to have something to celebrate! I wish I could be there to share this news with y'all in person....uh....er....didn't mean to exclude the kitties! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Today I visited the vet tech who was so helpful when Lefty was diagnosed with felv. I had printed out a HUGE stack of letters from this list...including the url of the information sites and the information about searching our archives. I told her some of the success stories and updated her on my little Poncho. She seemed very excited to get the information. I gave her the letter about the little kittens in Middletown Ohio and she seemed very interested. She has email capabilities at home and promised to write to me. I am trying to get her to find homes for some of the kitties and I am pretty sure she will take one of them herself. She is such a sweetie. She was the one who sent the very touching card when she learned of Lefty's death. I wish I lived close enough to take Poncho there regularly, but that is just out of the question--and I am very happy with my vet here also. But, I encouraged her to talk Dr. Boll (who transfused Lefty in April) into joining the list of vets on Jim's site. I am hoping she will do it. When I took the list to Dr. Boll when she was treating Lefty, she said she saw a friend of hers on there that she had gone to vet school with. She said "Now I know where Julie is practicing!" But, apparently after that she forgot about it and didn't take the steps to get herself added to the list. I am hoping Terri can get her to do that. I also have a question for anybody out there who could help. I purchased some Interferon for Poncho. It was frozen in small bottles and they gave me the stuff to mix with it and explained how to do it. They put an ice pack in the bag since I have a long drive home, but the interferon in the bottles thawed. I put it down in a cup of water and ice and it stayed VERY cold all the way home, but it did melt to liquid. I went ahead and put it back into the freezer. Does anybody know if that will hurt it or not? It never got anywhere near room temperature and the cup was still full of ice when I got home but I am worried that since it did thaw and I re-froze it, I may have done something to it. Any advice would be appreciated. You can put it on the gums and rub or use with a toothbrush (sure!!) as a toothpaste. Use 2-3 times a day. This has worked well for her and so am passing it along as another possible for those who's kids have gum problems! You might want to check it out with your vet!!! I have some and used it for brushing at first, but since it's peppermint flavored my cats like the toothpaste flavor better. But, it's good to have it on hand if they get gum problems because it has chlorhexidine and it can be used as a rinse. A cat rescuer brought a baby about six weeks. It's eating on its own and looks very healthy. She couldn't keep it inside and it was too small for the outside. She's upstairs right now. She'll go to the vet tomorrow for a check up. hb goes for his immunoregulin shot. She may have to stay in that room until I can get her felv vaccination. I've been going in and spending time with her. She is black with just a trace of white on her belly and chest. I gave her some flea medicine. My vet must think I'm crazy. I'd like to name this little one after one of our lost babies. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Thanks, Wendy. I just went over to visit Bandit, and once again realize how fortunate I am to have friends who can keep him till I can get him retested in 5 more weeks. I talked to my vet today, who said he is not optimistic about vaccinating Boots and Bouncer right away, but he will do it. And we did talk about DMG and some of the other holistic treatments. At least he is honest and told me he doesn't have much experience with those treatments, but he supports me in using them. Maybe he can learn a little more about felv from us! Thanks for sharing your good news with me about the kitties seroconverting. That is wonderful news, and gives me hope. I have tried to find a shelter here in San Diego that would take Bandit (a no-kill shelter), but the organizations here don't take kittens already diagnosed. If I were to take him there and lie and say he hadn't been tested, they would take him in and test him and keep him...it doesn't make sense, does it? I will be taking the two that I have here at home in for vaccinations on Saturday AM, and then retest in a month. kit ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 20:25:34 -0700 From: Kit Kennedy To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Dosages Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Thank you Beth. I know, I was surprised that he didn't suggest it right away, too. But if you see the response I gave to Wendy, he hasn't seen good results. However, I think that if there is a chance that it will help, why not? He feels since Bandit isn't here, and Boots and Bouncer may already be infected and fighting it off, it probably won't make a difference. We'll see. As I told Wendy, I will get them both their shots on Saturday. kit ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 20:29:32 -0700 From: Kit Kennedy To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Optimistic Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Christina = Congratulations!
