My kitty, Pushy, also has gingivitus and I haven' t had much luck getting rid of it either. I've tried the Co-enzyme Q 10, and I think that this has helped somewhat. . .just so that it's not sooooooooo tender, but still is VERY red looking. I feel fortunate because this seems to be Pushy's biggest problem at the moment, so if I could find something to help those gums, I'd really be happy!! I'm wanting to hear how the acupuncture, etc works on Stinker. Good Luck. Pushy and I will be thinking of you ,Stinker. ---------------------------------------- From: WORKPARK@aol.com Date sent: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 04:05:49 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Rissa-Tai isn't doing as well Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net There has been a noticable change in Rissa-Tai, even from this morning. She has started to hide again, like she did when she was really bad before. Under a skirted chair, or in the back corner of my closet behind the clothes. When she does emerge, she stays out for a little while, and then goes and hides again. Her energy level has obviously dropped. It's noticable to us that she is already starting to lose weight, and that she is not eating as much. However, she will eat with encouragement. We can also see how white the inside of her ears look, as well as how much paler her tongue has gotten. We were so hoping that we caught the Hemobart before it got worse this time. We're not as confidant now that she will pull out of this once again. She has been on the Doxycycline since Sunday, and the Baytril since Monday morning. Has anyone out there heard of any other ways to treat Hemobart - maybe even homeopathically? We'd appreciate any assistance we can get. I know that we need to be patient and let the antibiotics work, but after taking so long to pull her out of it before, it's really scary seeing it come back and how hard and how quick it's starting to hit her. Does anyone know how quickly they (the antibiotics) are supposed to take effect, or have I had the most experience with this parasite so far? Thanks in advance for any help, Pam ---------------------------------------- From: "zimmerman" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Dosages Date sent: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 01:43:48 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Kit, The dosages for the drugs your vet has to order for you are on the Treatments Page. ImmunoRegulin IV is .5 ml and interferon is 30 units, which if your vet orders it from Island Pharm. is 1 ml. The suggested daily dose of DMG for a FeLV+ cat is on the info sheet- 50-100 mg daily for a 9 to 10 lb. cat, I give mine 100 mg (1 ml. of the liquid I get) because they're over 10 lbs. The other supplements have suggested dosages on the bottle. I put 1/4 tsp. Prozyme per cup of dry food. In their canned cat food treat I put the DMG, 1/4 tsp. Barley Cat, 10 mg. Co Q10, 25 mg. Vetri-Science Antiox, and 1 ml. Pet-Tinic. I used to give JACKSON 1 ml. Pet-Tinic twice a day, but his tongue has been nice and pink so I just give him 1 ml. daily now. Seems like your vet would have suggested vaccinating, maybe he's waiting for the second test. It will be interesting to hear what he said. You are supposed to use schedule 3 in this case, p. 348: "Over the course of three days, give one pellet or tablet every 12 hours. Provide no food for ten minutes before and after treatment. If there is no improvement after these six doses, choose another remedy. If a definite improvement has occurred, then no further homeopathic treatment will be needed." Administration of homeopathic pellets is a bit tricky as you cannot touch the pellets w/ your bare hands. You can crush the pellet between two teaspoons or two pieces of clean paper and pour onto RT's tongue. If you even get it on RT's tongue, this will allow the remedy to take effect. This potency (30C) is safe or Pitcairn wouldn't give out the info I'm sure. I wouldn't worry about harming RT w/ this, and it might help. The best thing to do would be to contact a homeopathic vet in your area. If you like, I will post a query on holisticat about this... otherwise I've heard Kat mention a good holistic vet in Arizona, but I don't know if she's also a homeopath. I can't find Kat's post w/ that vet's name & # :( Her name is Dr. Debbie something. Anyone have it? Kat?--This vet can probably recommend someone if she doesn't practice homeopathy. I'm pulling for you and Rissa-Tai, Pam. Hang in there. I've had a phone consultation with Dr Debbie, and I do recommend her, altho she charges $96.00/hour with a $48.00 minimum - I felt much better after talking to her about Domenique. You might also try some Colloidal Silver in conjunction with the antibiotics. It sounds like the Hemobart might need something extra to knock it back again. I'm sending both you and Rissa-Tai my prayers and healing vibes. Kat (New Jersey) ---------------------------------------- From: "wendy galbreath" To: Subject: Re: stray kits in GA. As we are a no-kill facility, we felt we couldn't make the choice to destroy these lives without waiting for their own immune systems to possibly kick in and fight off the virus. Miracles do happen and when we retested them at 5 months of age, they all came back negative. In all cases, we placed these beautiful babies in foster homes, where they could run and play and live their lives in joyful fashion. We gave one batch Olive Leaf, which my homeopathic vet suggested would assist in helping them shed any viruses. Who can say whether this made the difference or all the prayers we sent for their continued good health? Thanks to all of you who are part of this group, as your experience and information continues to keep me informed and hopeful. Lucky's signs were lack of apetite but not a lethargic mood, in fact by then he was chasing moths (cause we had a plague last year). He was treated witn an antibiotic called (here in Chile) Ronaxan (I believe it's an international laboratory but I don't recall the name of it), he was pilled twice a day and the antibiotics took effect within one week. He regained his appetite. He also took a medicine to protect his liver. He was able to pull off this situation I hope Rissa Tai does the same. If that means keeping her medicine on a strict schedule, I'll do whatever I have to. For seizures, they really aren't that bad; more of a petit mal than a grand mal type, but they are still awful to witness, especially since she vocalizes. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello, I just got a phone call from a man from an ad Iplaced in the paper for my 2 strays. He sounded like he is sincere in his attempt to find 2 kittens for he and his fiance. I have educated him on the fact that they have tested + for FeLV once and we are waiting to have them retested..He said that did not bother him but he had to check with his fiance to ensure she would not have a problem with this. I did ask the name of the vet they used and he told me where they were located but said his fiance could provide me with a name and phone number next time we speak. They would both like to come visit the kittens tomorrow on their lunch hour. Does anyone have any suggestions on things I should/should not tell them, certain questions to ask...if they should come to me or if I should go to them.....if they do come to me tomorrow, if it worked out I would go to their home to deliver to ensure they would be in a good environment and it was a legit turnover to good loving parents. Any and all toughts are welcome. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Donna, Get references!! Call the vet they give you - ask him/her if they've ever been clients - and if they were good kitty parents. Find out if they rent or own their own home. You don't want to have the kitties turned out because the landlord says 'no pets'. There are too many sick nut-cases out there, and you don't want these kitties to end up being used for torture or worse. Find out how long they've been at the current address, and where they lived before. Tell them you have to wait 1 more week before letting them adopt the kitties. If they are sincere and caring people, they won't mind being checked out. If they get jumpy, nervous, or give vague answers - or say it's now or never - don't do it. Trust your instincts, and don't let anyone talk you into anything you don't feel good about. As far as Hemobart treatments, Doxycycline seems to have worked well for Molly. We're keeping her on it even though there's been no sign of it in her recent bloodwork. On my request, our vet checked and determined that there aren't any long-term bad effects from staying on doxy indefinitely. What else is Rissa-Tai getting? Anything to stimulate her appetite? If she keeps not eating, you might want to take her to the vet for IV or sq fluids. Cary ---------------------------------------- From: "James G.
