Has anyone else had problems using Clavamox? Or maybe it's just my Money who is allergic! She has a rather bad UTI, but is not tolerating the Clavamox so we're going to try something different. Any thoughts appreciated. In fact, Penny vomited so hard she burst her stitches, herniated her little intestines OUT the incision and had to be rushed back to the vet and re-sewn! (one of my most scary moments, I must say!) So we don't do no more of that at my house, we stick to baytril which is tolerated just fine. jean ---------------------------------------- From: "George & Nancy" To: "Felv" Subject: Tut Date sent: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 07:45:18 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Barb, Tut is still hanging on. The pet-tinnic is vitamins and iron. Its a liquid form and easy to give. I got mine at the vets office. It would make him vomit and sick to his stomache. I have had good results with the Baytril and the Antirobe. Antirobe is specifically for mouth infections. Stinker has alot of problems with the different antibiotics. I guess you just have to find one that works for your kitty. Best to you and your baby.:)...........................Lynn(Stinker) ---------------------------------------- From: katseven@pcsia.com Date sent: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 08:31:56 -0600 Subject: Monday Candle Service: 8/17/98 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net To be performed at 10 pm EST time, if possible (to correspond w/ http://www.petloss.com/ ). Susan katseven@pcsia.com CANDLE CEREMONY Written by Lisa Singer (lsinger@aol.com) The candles being lit tonight; Cast a soft and welcome flame. And draw our loved ones to the light, As we call to them by name. Imagine spirits taking flight, For a moment our souls entwine. Say not Good Night, but in some Brighter Time Bid them all- Good Morning. WE GATHER TOGETHER TO HONOR AND REMEMBER OUR PETS Tonight, Monday, we join hands, hearts and souls across the land as one large extended family to pray for our sick and dying pets and to pay tribute to our furbabies who have gone ahead to Rainbow Bridge. Someday, we will meet them again, with hugs, tears and kisses, as we walk together, in eternity, to our new home. Until that blessed day, we honor these precious souls and remember them with the warm glow of flickering candles, sending a message of love, light and healing, and the faith to believe in miracles. PRAYER: God, Creator of all living things, we ask that as we light our candles, the healing warmth of love will flow into the brokenhearted who are tending their ailing pets. Give to them Your strength and comfort. We also pray that the soft glow of light will part the clouds of grief and sorrow to surround our furbabies at the Bridge. May excitement REIGN SUPREME as wagging tails and ecstatic purrs feel our gentle touch once again. May they know the gratitude we hold in our hearts for their faithfulness and gift of unconditional love as they are forever remembered. We are temporarily separated for only a short while. The silver cord that connects us through time and space can never be broken. AMEN. CANDLE 1: BRIDGE FUR CHILDREN Read the names of those who have gone on before us as a tribute to them and their loving parents. As we all meet here, our Bridgekids will be meeting all newcomers, easing their way. Kitty (August 14, 1998) Cheri G. We also, being of one heart, pray for the Mommies, Daddies, and little ones who struggle together against serious illness. We remember in quiet reverence the special ones who left us and we pray for the grieving families left behind. And we can never forget all who work to save the homeless and abused animals. Their burden is never light. With one heart, all are remembered and forever cherished by this family of love. CANDLE 3: FOR ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND PEACE In honor of all the homeless, forgotten, abandoned, abused animals. For the nameless little ones who gave their lives for others, for research and as a result of humankind's inhumanity. May the Higher Powers that be forgive the cruelty. We light this candle for them. As our lights shine brightly through the galaxy, may the angels smile upon us, and know that for a brief moment, we have put aside worldly differences to bond as ONE. CLOSING: I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain, not because I did not love you, but because I loved you too much to force you to stay. MOMENT OF SILENCE. I'm not experienced enough with UTI's to know exactly which remedy would work, but Pitcairn's book lists several things for bladder problems. I remember that when Penélope had a bladder infection, she, too, was given Clavamox, and it didn't agree with her either, so she was miserable throughout the treatment (the vet didn't suggest using anything else). After Peno was well again, I read through Pitcairn for the first time and picked up some of the remedies he describes. If you don't have a copy of his book and want to know what he lists, just let me know and I'll email you privately (kinda long). Hope Money is feeling better! Muff used to use Hetacin, but that is out of favor with vets now. Baytril seems to be the most used antibiotic. for internal infections. A short course with Prednisone used to help Muff when he was really having a problem... However, I haven't had any recurrance of FUS/UTI in him since I started using distilled water (at first - now just filtered, since he's "regulated"), and forcing extra water in him, and the others, by mixing their one can of canned food with about 2 cups of water, making a "soup" out of it. Keeps him flushed out, so the nasties don't settle... They seemed to think it would be a temporary fix and Tut would get sick again once those blood cells die down. I'm afraid I waited to long to find out about these different treatments. Poor Tut is going downhill fast. Nan ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 17:53:52 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: blood tranfussions Send reply to: Newtanator@aol.com Nan, It is true that a blood transfusion is a temporary fix. But those blood cells will last about 3 months which gives you valuable time to try something. I had a cat that had lymphosarcoma and got her a transfusion. In her case, it didn't help and she left me the next day. But If Tut has no cancers going on, you might want to reconsider. But that is a personal decision you and yours must make, what ever you decide to do, we are with you and here for you. Only you know what is best for Tut. I have found there are no wrong decisions, we do the best we can and our babies know we love them, no matter what. barb ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 14:27:02 -0700 From: Cary Zeitlin Organization: Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: blood tranfussions Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nan, Your vet may be right about the transfusion just providing a quick fix -- but it *might* do more than that. And even a temporary boost could possibly buy Tut a little time, during which meds might kick in. Sorry to ask this, as I'm sure you've told us before, but what meds have you been giving him? We were on thymus, vit c, and Q10 for a while. It was too much trying to give Tut all of that. So I cut him down and changed meds. I just don't know. It does depress some cats and there is the outside chance, however slim, that Tut may be having some kind of reaction to it because it is human interferon. It's rare, but I have heard of it happening. barb ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 11:29:17 -0700 From: Cary Zeitlin Organization: Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: TOPIC Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Kathy, We've had some kitties who started puking when we put them on Clavamox or Amoxicillin, others who've tolerated it fine. Trying to look at it impartially, which is hard, I suppose this is natures way of keeping the population down. The strong survive, the weak do not. To safeguard the species, some have an unknown something that protects them. I just wish we could figure out what that "something" is. barb ---------------------------------------- END
