It has vit & iron. You can get it at your vets. You have much to offer that shouldn't upset anybody. And I have it from a "higher authority" that it's OK to speak your mind as long as it's not insulting. Back when we had fleas they used to bite me too. Great big welts! I guess they only bite certain people, I think it's because we're so sweet, don't you? In my own humble opinion, it's best to get a wet cat food w/out artificial preservatives or colors, as a cat's system has to process these. (I have gone to a raw, homemade diet for all my kits including George (felv+).) I've not tried Pet-Tinnic, but I've heard it's good. I also like Ambrotose (have to order from Linda P.) and Vit. C (sodium ascorbate). If you can, give Melody filtered or spring water (again so liver & kidneys don't have to filter out more toxins). The main thing is to try to support your kitty's immune system as much as possible and not overtax it. Sounds simple, Huh? ;-) Susan katseven@pcsia.com ---------------------------------------- From: katseven@pcsia.com Date sent: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 18:20:52 -0600 Subject: Re: Hershey's reunion To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Party down, Debby and Hershey! A healthy raw diet is the best option, but that's not always feasible (my kitties, for instance, regularly turn up their noses and get disgusted with me, no matter what strategy I try). Since my cats won't regularly eat an all raw diet, I have switched them from regular commercial dry food (Meow Mix, etc.) to better premium foods (Authority, Nutro, Nature's Recipe) and also switched them mostly to better canned foods (they have come to really like the Authority canned food, which has a fairly decent list of ingredients). I have noticed a vast difference in their overall appearance just from switching in this way, so I guess it's working. What I've done is stopped free feeding. Now they get fed only twice a day, morning and evening, and they only get what they can finish in 30 minutes or so. In the morning, they get strictly dry food, and in the evening, they get dry mixed with canned. Water is available all day. In the evening, whatever is left over after 30 mins, I take and give to some stray kitties that know when to come by my back door for a treat. I've gotten it down to an art, I think. Very little is left after 30 mins now. Their weight is better, and they use the litter box a bit less. Any supplements I'm giving them go in the canned food and get spread out that way. I'm not very precise, I guess. I must admit I don't use a ton of supplements right now. I give them Pet Tinnic orally, and they tend to tolerate this really well. I hope you collect enough info to make a really good informed decision. There are even ways to make your own kibble, and that would be the best (I have 6 cats, so that seems equivalent to climbing Mount Everest to me!), I suppose, if you can't do raw and want to make sure the best quality ingredients go into the food you're feeding. Good luck, Gabby and los gatos fregados (the darn cats!) I truly appreciate your support and help. I've decided to stay on the list. I need to keep up on things and this is a geat place, not just about FeLV+ but cats in general. By the way, the pound called and I'm now fostering a little guy who couldn't handle being in a cage. He wasn''t eating and the kennel was afraid they'd lose him. I got him Sat and he's eating and thriving even though it has only been a day. He's like a shadow. I can't go very far from him. I've named him HB (Head Butts) and I think fostering may be the wrong word. The other cats have adopted him and are showing him the ropes. (I don't give them the supplement every day.) By the way, you may not be able to stop looking through that site. I get kinda obsessed with their catalog, too! He gave us a syringe to draw up an exact dose to give the cats and everthing was fine. I have used both Frontline and Advantage on my own cats - and I prefer the Advantage. I get Pet-Tinic, Prozyme, DMG, Co Q10, and Antiox from them. I'm also using some Barlet Cat now, but the catalog has something called Spirulina that looks interesting. As Gabby says there catalog and web site are quite addicting. Many of these supplements and a raw food diet recipe are on the FeLV Project Information Sheet. www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/8025/felvfaq.htm I'm using Co Q10 and brushing my cats teeth to keep their gums healthy because FeLV+ cats are prone to gum disease. On Tuesday, George's next appt., I'll ask the vet about the PCR test. I agree about this being something obvious and simple perhaps....I mean once we get around our mindsets maybe. Some kind of deficiency in diet or exposure to a toxin-- along w/ genetic weaknesses...??? We've gotta keep trying. Susan katseven@pcsia.com ---------------------------------------- END
