So what...that is why you are the LEADER and we FOLLOW you. Usually, I write these things to Jim privately but I am going to boldly say this to the whole list--and do my time in the naughty corner alone if I must. I have only been part of this list since April so I have missed a lot of this stuff, but I can feel the tension and discomfort on the list lately. I have been afraid to post for fear that I will do something to upset some of the wonderful people on here...But, unlike Larry, I am not comfortable as a lurker, I want to be a PARTICIPANT! I think we all need to support Jim and his decision. Jim started this list and I think he has the right to decide when a problem needs to be dealt with 'drastically'. I support his decision and I think we all need to get back to what we are here for. I just want all this crap to be over so we can get back to the business of discussing workable treatments and supporting each other. ok? Any good health food store should carry it. And, there are many places on the web to order. Place one drop on Clovis' tongue about 20 minutes before you need to put him in the carrier. If he is *really* difficult about getting meds they also make a cream that you can rub into the top of his ear. He was on no meds, just Mannatech products. You still have more reading to do, and I will send some more info to you via snail mail. Offer is still on to meet at the Woodland Hills Hilton this Friday night. Bill McAnalley, one of the scientists who discovered Ambrotose will be speaking. If you are really interested in learning something new, please meet me there, you're not too far away. You need to get off the Aloe bandwagon, Steve. If it *was* the "be all and end all" that you seem to think it is we wouldn't need this list. Mannose, the active ingredient in Aloe, is *only one* of the eight sugars we need for total health. I have a copy from Harper's Biochemistry, 24th Edition about the eight sugars. The info isn't in the 23rd edition, the discovery is that new. Will mail it to you or anyone else who wants to see it. James, if you know some way I could do an attachment that's not in the .jpg format, so the file wouldn't be so big, maybe I could upload the file? However, considering that in the past 7 years the 3 stray cats that adopted me (I saw them in the yard and they came running to me overjoyed to be loved) have had the FeLV virus I won't be taking the millions to Vegas. (I've read only about 10% of US cats have the virus) The first 1 tragically died after 7 months. The other 2 I'm trying to keep healthy for a long time like your Rubin was. Beth PS I also have 3 FeLV- cats: a 14 yr. old (broken tail), a 12 yr. old (1 eye, 2 teeth), & a 5 yr. old (abandoned 2 lb. kitten someone found under a car, he now weighs almost 20 lbs.) ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 17:01:44 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: An unfortunate situation Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Jim, It was indeed an unfortunate situation. I hope everyone understands that Jim does not withhold viable treatments from this list. That is basically what he was being accused of. And nothing could be farther from the truth. To even hint at that is inexcusable in my mind. I would like to mention one other thing. I also did investigation on the other drug mentioned by Steve. As usual, he did not give the whole story. Pepstatin A. It is believed, via research, that this drug basically shares a common binding site with the protease inhibitors. In short, it competes with the bodies own immune system response, effectivally rendering it innate which leaves the body open to all opportunistic infections. So, maybe felv won't kill your cat, but a cold or cancerous tumor will. One just can't read one article, the first paragraph and then call it a great advance. Are these things interesting? Certainly and maybe someday a real cure will come from all of it. Someday, but our cats need help now. It is frustrating for all of us, but we have to work together, on reasonable options, not flying off the handle over every idea that comes along. I and others wrote Steve privately and asked him to refrain from not only degrading what we are doing, but to fully investigate his own ideas before posting them. He had no interest in doing either. So it is unfortunate that this had to happen and I hope that now we can get back to what we were doing and look to the future. barb ---------------------------------------- From: Derbherb13@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 17:23:50 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: "Melody" the music store cat & Nutrition Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Everyone! I had written Steve privately a few days ago asking him to behave like a gentleman or leave. There was no reply. Well.... errrrrr.... I DID it!! finally! I let Hershey out earlier today ( after MUCH trepidation on my part - I guess I'm just not a 'risk-taker' by nature so it was SO hard for me to think this was really and truly safe now to do ). It was SO funny - when I first opened the door to this room - I swear, Hershey's eyes got HUGE! All I could think of instantly was that movie "Home Alone" where McCauley Culkin slapped his face with his two hands and his eyes were enormous when he realized he was alone! It was the SAME type of expression on Hershey's face! The other odd thing is that NOBODY here seems to have noticed that he was 'missing' for 2 months! that's what I get for having dim-witted kitties -LOL! ( Birmans and Ragdolls ). What's also very odd to me , is that after Hershey did a "once around the house" he's come back and is settled back in this very same room that he was isolated in for 2 mos. - back up in his window looking out - when he could be anywhere else he chose to be- including our big screened in porch! silly kitty :-0 Debby, & the HBG (the HairballGang) ---------------------------------------- From: Derbherb13@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 21:09:20 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Melody and nutrition Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Gabby and everyone else who answered my question! I also understood from vets that Frontline makes the cat poisonous for the flea that bites it. As to the vinegar: I use a lot on my salads each day, but the fleas don't seem to mind that, a n d they don't know that cat fleas are not supposed to bite humans! I know she said he would be on the Q10 the rest of his life, and that she was going to keep him on the thymus for a while yet. He just gets booster shots of the ImmunoRegulin. I'm ashamed to say I can't remember if Arlene is on the list presently. Also, she is going to periodically retest him using the PCR test. I don't know a lot about this test but I am told it is even more sensitive than the IFA at picking up FeLV. I am giving Ariel hers under the skin, so I will probably go two weeks longer than the six she did with Thomas. IF and I do mean if, she happens to test negative on the ELISA, I will go straight to the PCR. But I have learned not to get my hopes up. I decided to do this because I could do it at home, it didn't cost much (under $100) and the treatments are fairly benign. Ariel has been healthy and I didn't want to do anything that might upset that applecart and I must admit, I was intrigued that Thomas tested positive on the IFA and PCR, and now he is negative. Being in the medical field myself, I have learned that sometimes it is the simple things, often overlooked, that cause improvements. Remember the "War of the Worlds"? All our might and power couldn't stop them, but the minute they stuck their heads out, a tiny bacteria got them. I have always felt the key to beating this disease is locked inside our cats bodies somewhere. Why do some who are exposed not get it at all? How come a third of them beat it themselves? What makes them different? This question fasinates me. Anyway, this is why I decided to try this. I am hopefully giving Ariel some ammo to fend off and kill the virus herself. The fact she has remained healthy so far, not even a cold, tells me her body is at least keeping it in check and if I can help her in any way, I will do it. There is nothing ventured nothing gained and the worst that will happen is she will still be positive. barb ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 21:23:05 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Strays Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, I am so glad you have decided to stay. And you have plenty to give. Look carefully at HB, you might just see a little of Kitty there. I am trying to follow the same program with George, and am very interested to know if you have any more current info on Thomas, how he's doing etc. Also, do you know what his diet was/is? Is the owner still continuing the thymus, the CoQ10? George's initial six weeks on Immunoregulin will be up soon. It would be nice to compare notes. You may already have done this for Barb since she's doing the same thing for her + kits. Would you mind just forwarding me the info, if so? Again, you guys & gals are great. Thanks for giving me so much encouragement about George--who was, of course, a starry-eyed stray, too.
