You have my deepest sympathy and I understand, as we all do, what you're going through. You did the right thing, but it doesn't lessen your sense of loss. That only comes with time. I stopped using Frontline (the Top Spot one) because from reading the literature, it seemed to me that the fleas actually had to bite the cat in order for the product to kill them. My sister tells me I misunderstood that, but my vet agreed with me at the time. Anyway, I didn't like it at all, and it did not solve any problems in my household. We used it once and never again. One of my kitties, Penélope, who is severely allergic to flea bites, got no relief whatsoever from that product. Advantage, on the other hand, has worked wonders here. (My understanding is that the Adv works to kill the fleas without them having to bite the cat.) In South Texas, fleas can get terrible during some parts of the year. This June, I got the kitties their Adv, gave each of them one "dose," and haven't had to use it again since. Peno's bald patches and allergy spots cleared up within 2 days. I know you're supposed to do it once a month or thereabouts, but no way am I gonna put all those chemicals into my babies more than I think I absolutely need to. If it weren't for the fact that I've tried natural stuff and collars and sprays and found none of them worked, I'd not have tried the Adv at all. Since that one dose of Adv, there hasn't been a flea anywhere in sight. Last year, I did the same thing--one dose, and then stop. Well, just thought I'd share that with you! Even after a year, I start crying at the mere thought of what he went through and how helpless I was to stop it. Since that time, I've learned alot from all of you wonderful people about how to deal with such tragedies, and I thank you all for being a part of my life. Take care, and I wish you all the very best. "It wasn't the virus that laid you to rest, It was the low spark of a high-priced vet." I will always love you Vyvyan. I'm so happy I just needed to share this news. I took Hershey back in this past Wed. to have his 3rd FIP ELISA test done. Some of you may know I've had him isolated in my family room since his first test came up 1:80. Then, to my great shock, his second test was 1:320. Well, I just got the call from my vet that this time his titer has dropped to 1:160!! This is SUCH a good sign and I can't help but think it's cuz of the Ester C ( thanks to you guys who suggested it ) and the Echinacea that's done this! My vet said that he's seen cases of this where once the numbers start to drop like this, they continue rapidly over the next few months until the kitty tests negative... so.... he said he'd go ahead and let him out of isolation now! I'm absolutely amazed at this - to the point where I haven't had the guts yet to do it! Can you believe me?! But... undoubtedly, I'll do this tomorrow sometime ... right now I've just got to absorb this all....... ( and kick my heels up in the air which his MUCH more fun than banging my head against the wall which is all I've been doing lately ;-) Debby, & the HBG (the HairballGang) ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 19:55:12 +0100 From: "Sonja Lnders" To: Felvtalk Subject: [Fwd: Research, etc.] Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net This is exactly what I meant to say!Sonja ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 15:23:13 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: Re: Hershey's latest FIP ELISA test result :-) Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net thanks Barb! We used to, so I know what it's like. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's the mosquito spray the town uses. The last 3 cats who adopted me had the FeLV virus, worms, & 2 had ear mites - but none had fleas. Don't hate me because I'm flealess :) Beth ps.
