What with the opportunistic mouth problems and all, a lot of FeLV kitties won't. -- Steve ---------------------------------------- From: "Steve Lackow" To: Subject: Re: I'm Ba-ack... You can always break them up or pulverize 'em if kitty can't chew. -- Steve ---------------------------------------- From: katseven@pcsia.com Date sent: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 19:35:34 -0600 Subject: Re: I'm Ba-ack... The munchkins, as I told Jim, apparently suck on huge bottles of growth hormone when I'm gone. Spottie is HUGE. Radar, BIG. Chuy, the Amazon, watched as the boys spurted right past her. I catch her just watching me in the middle of the night. Chloe has a little shrine in the living room, and she and Ernie and our other friends are in our thoughts all the time. How many cats now, Susan? Is it really 13? -- Steve ---------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Re: I'm Ba-ack... I don't have personal experience w/ CRF (chronic renal failure) but this is one of the big topics on holisticat right now. You might want to check it out. She "takes care" of me when I'm sick. Now I only hope I can care for her. To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, Hang on to your hope. Kitty knows you love her, and believe me that bond can make amazing things happen. It is so true that our kitties take care of us. No matter how sh*tty it is at work, I can always come home to unconditional love--a truly priceless gift. I forgot to send you this link (hope it still works). This is a good page to learn about kidney failure in cats. http://www.best.com/~lynxpt/ I'm thinking of you and your furry family. Steve, Well it's twelve cats on earth and one in the spiritual realm although I've been told he's coming back too ;)! Yes, I say a little pray for Chloe and Ernie and all our bridge kits--the moment I wake up, before I put on my make-up...... Susan ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 21:15:21 -0500 To: felvtalk From: Melanie Moore Subject: Maxwell and his eyes Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Maxwell just had his followup visit with the veterinary ophthalmologist today and, although he was treated for six weeks with an antibiotic (Gentak) to the right eye for a small ulceration, it seems the ulcer is larger now. The eye vet called it an "indolent ulcer" which apparently means a "healing defect ulcer", or one in which the tissue itself fails to heal in a normal fashion (as opposed to failing to heal due to an outside cause). He continues to have variation in pupil size associated with inflammation and swelling about once a month which seems to "break through" the daily steroid drops treatment. The vet today debrided Max's ulcer and said it may take more than one debridement to get it to heal, and he's to return in a couple weeks. Meanwhile, he's back on the Gentak twice a day in the right eye for the ulcer, and still on Ak-Trol (a steroid ointment) in the left eye once or twice a day for the continuing inflammation there. Guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with corneal ulcers and what I might be able to do to help Max's eye heal faster. I just started giving him CoQ10 and have ordered some ambrotose for him. Thanks! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Steve: I did get the crunchies. Howling Kitty will eat them but it seems to be hard for him to chew them. For awhile though, the crunchies were all he'd eat. HK did have a mouth infection 3 weeks ago but it seemed to clear up. I had to give him ambrotose, sugar, and water by mouth for 4 days. I thought I had lost him. Linda sent me the ambrotose and I believe that it helped tremendously. Patience, catnip, ambrotose, pet-tinnic, prednizone, prayer, and love got him through. I was lucky this time to have him rally back. Any suggestions on what I can give him for better oral health. Arlene and Howling Kitty ---------------------------------------- From: "James G. Date: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 20:43:36 -0700 Cheri, kitties with serious renal failure get really dehydrated and don't drink enough, etc. So hopefully this is just a bacterial infection, and hopefully your vet picked the right antibiotic. Whenever FeLV cats get sick and a bacterial infection is suspected, vets usually recommend a broad spectrum approach to the antibiotics to make sure they get it. -- Steve ---------------------------------------- END
