I didn't have the nerve to wait that long with Schurli, gave up on Valium after 2 days! Maybe I should have been more patient, but my method worked without drugs, and I since he was getting an antibiotic at the time...... She went potty last night w/no problems and the stools weren't black:-) (Really, the things we get excited about!) Ninja even cuddled w/me again last night! Two nights in a row:-):-) this has been wonderful for me! She's so funny about it too. I'll be laying on my side and she'll come into the room and walk about up to my knees and look at me expectantly. I then pat the blanket and tell her "c'mon honey" and THEN she comes up and lays down for her marathon belly rub. She also tends to wait for an invitation to jump on the bed (if I'm awake that is). I was also right about the difference in the brand of her medicine causing the foaming: she had her old medicine last night and this morning and not a single drop of cat spit came foaming back at me. Unfortunately, she peed on the bed again last night. I need to get another bottle of Liqui-Zyme. At least it wasn't a monster pee!! I picked up some of the Pet-Aloe Crumbles last night since nobody had any strong objections to it. I don't think she minded it, but she didn't eat much dry food last night that I could tell. I figure they can't hurt her, so I might as well try. I've been getting Ninja kitty grass at the Farmer's Market pretty regularly. She likes it and it has to help her plumbing to eat kitty salad. Hopefully, there won't be any more episodes like this past weekend. Thanks for all the good wishes and suggestions! You might want to get something we call Chux. They are blue pads you put under folks that are incontinent. Date sent: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 16:41:04 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Greetings, everybody. A little kitty whispered in my ear that I was needed back here... not to mention one or two or twelve list subscribers who miss my bombastic missives about supplement and vitamin overdoses, stressful unproven FeLV protocols, how to treat an FeLV cat as they wish rather than as you wish, all in occassional Shakespearean sonnet format. Here's a question for you all. If I told you that there was a therapy that could reduce FeLV to undetectable levels in your sick cat, who might live another year or two or even longer with good health -- but you had to go to the vet every week, needed blood tests every week, needed expensive drug combinations daily in dynamic combinations that are always changing, and that this would cost you thousands of dollars -- would you be interested in pursuing it? Or does this amount to treating our little ones as we wish, rather than as they wish, even if time and money are no objects? By the way, I heard from Merlin. He says I'm a jerk. And he forgives me. Chloe says it's getting very crowded at the bridge and asks if we can please at least get the little ones tested and vaccinated -- and that everybody here is fine, how are you? -- Love to all, Steve ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 19:44:43 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: I'm Ba-ack... Took Kitty to the vet today for her regulas immunoregulin booster. The vet ran some tests as she has a chronic bladder infection. She has CREA was high and her HCT and HGB were low. The vet says she is going into kidney failure. ANyone have this problem? Is there soemthing I can do? She takes Ambrotose in her food and echinecea daily. The vet put her on titromyacin (sp?) by mouth. This is our first big crisis. She's had this infection since I first got her about 3 years ago. Cheri, If you can afford to, call a homeopathic vet and do a phone consult. Go to altvetmed.com and locate a homeopathic vet close to you. There are many good homeopathic remedies for bladder problems, and the remedies are fairly inexpensive. Linda P ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 21:26:15 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: I'm Ba-ack... Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, First, one high test doesn't necessarily mean kidney failure. If Kitty has had a chronic bladder problem, the infection could have spread to the kidneys which would alter the Creatinine level. How high was it? First, give the antibiotic religiously, make sure Kitty gets lots and lots of fluids. This is vital with a kidney/bladder infection. Also, some one had said they found crannberry powder they put with their food. This may help. It's good for the bladder lining. After the course of antibiotics, take him back in and have another blood test done and a urine sample taken if possible. Sending Urine out for complete studies can tell you if the kidneys are failing. The simple fact of putting out urine doesn't mean the kidneys are working. Many dialysis patients put out a lot of urine, there just isn't much in it but water. But take heart, the body is an amazing thing. we can live with one kidney working at half power with care and proper diet. Oh, I also heard you aren't supposed to give the echinecea for more than two weeks. Then off for several months. Any homeopathic folks out there that can help me with that? If the kidneys ARE failing, Epogen may be a good option for you to replace the hormone needed to stimulate the production of RBCs. Remember also, there is a big difference between failing and having failed completely. So keep up the good work and thoughts.barb ---------------------------------------- From: "James G. There are still a number of folks that are adding whole quoted messages to their notes to the list. Not only do most folks find this annoying and time-consuming, it eats up bandwidth on the host server. Please, PLEASE, if you need help in learning how to "trim" your messages to keep the excess quoted material out of your messages, let me know privately, and I'll try to explain some options. It is very important that we use good netiquette on the list, and this is an easy way to do that. Thanks for listening. Take care, and I wish y'all the best. Both my vets suggested it for Chloe, as did Dr. Myers who sometimes contributes to this list. Doc Myers suggested Valium when I asked him about medical marijuana possibilities for cats. To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: I'm Ba-ack... Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Steve: You were indeed missed! It's great to have you back. As for the question you asked, I would love to say that I would do whatever it took regardless of the time and money. Since I am being honest though, I have to tell you that it takes most of my waking hours just to do my job so that I can meet my obligations to my business and family and my three cats. Howling Kitty is so important to me. I sacrifice a great deal of my "off"time to ferry him back and forth to vets and I even take him to work with me on his bad days. Yet, I have to draw the line at some point. I have to travel a great deal for my job so I have to constantly arrange for my daughter to medicate him in my absence. I refuse to medicate him so heavily that he can't function like a cat. If he can only lay in a corner and be sick, then I am being the selfish one. I guess what I am trying to say is that I only want Howling Kitty alive for that time when he can have a quality cat life. Maybe this isn't what you were asking but it sure did make me think. Steve, don't go away in a snit anymore. You're a valuable source of information on this list and I for one am glad you're back! Best luck, Arlene and Howling Kitty ---------------------------------------- END
