A friend who had worked at a vets office said they used it when nothing else worked. So I bought a can and his appetite perked up immediately. Something about the smell (and it is REALLY stinky!) Pulling for Tut, and for you too. jean Jean Wells wellsj@winthrop.edu Rock Hill, SC maryjean77@hotmail.com http://www.birdnest.org/wellsj/mostcats.htm I want cheesecake and I want it NOW! ---------------------------------------- From: "Lynn or Josiah Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Re: Thymus hormone Date sent: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 07:44:28 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Barb, Thanks! Stinker hasn't been doing all that well these past few weeks or so. Last week, I was ready and had an appointment with the vet to take Stinker in. I believed it was time for the last resort..........steroid treatment. Well, I was in the bathroom and Stinker came in and started playing with the shower curtain and attacking the toilet paper!:) Needless to say, I canceled the appointment. These little episodes are short lived though but he is holding his own. I have diligently attacked the "demon" with all that I know to do and more. His mouth is a mess and has always been but it seems to be getting worse at times and he is having trouble with his eye. I went to the old standby, terrymicin after trying numerous ointments, homeopathic remedies and all. It seems to be getting better. Today, Stinker is sleeping peacefully, which is great. I let him sleep all he wants.:) I will start the Thymus. I always learn something new here.:)...................Lynn(Stinker) ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 10:19:51 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. I used it daily for Panther for at least 3 months--maybe several more--I can't remember. He was also taking Interferon but not Immunoregulin (much now to my regret). I can't say I noticed any difference with using it, and as Barb knows, he died last May, about 7-8 months after basically, being diagnosed. That's not to say it didn't help--perhaps it did, but I didn't *notice* any difference. Nancy ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 10:20:34 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. I only need to give him 1/4 pill once or twice to help his appetite for a few days. This summer I've been giving him one or two doses weekly since he does not eat well when it's so hot. the only side effect is he seems to sleep a little more. However, for me, the benefits outweigh since his appetite perks up noticeably. I get it from my vet--it's very cheap. I am sorry to hear about Clovis and Melody, but as you will see from the list, many cats are still alive and well after months or years of being diagnosed--with proper care and treatment. It looks like others have covered your answers quite well so I won't repeat. I have one cat with FIV (Feline Aids), who is doing well almost a year after being diagnosed. Actually, I think he's had it longer than that (looking back). He's on Interferon and Immunoregulin with supplementation of pet Tinnic, DMG, Vit. C., and Ambrotose. He is also on a small dose of prednisone to keep his platelets up. Good luck and hang in there! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Lynn, You get the hormone from the health foods store, and while I don't think it has to be give right along with DMG, you certainly can. I hope his eye steadily improves and that something can at least stabilize his mouth problems. I know you're doing everything you can. After about 1 week on the valium his appetite picked right up and he started eating on his own. I had also found that he went more to the real fishy smelling wet food. I guess the only thing I would say is interferon is an antiviral agent, not an immune system booster, like ImmunoRegulin or the CoEnzyme Q10. That is what it is reported it works best with. But everything we do is an experiment so there is just no way of knowing. barb ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 16:38:35 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Thymus hormone Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Lynn, I think I have mentioned this before, but have you tried an antibiotic called Mycostatin for Stinkers mouth? You would need a script from your vet for it. You would put it in his mouth and he would probably spit it out, but that's ok. It's sort of a topical antibiotic for the mucus membranes. Heck, you have tried everything else, might want to give it a try. barb ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 16:50:08 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: TUT Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nan, Remember, you might want to have Tut's Erythropoietin level tested before starting the Epogen. If that hormone level is normal, I don't think the Epogen will help. The Un. of Penn. at 1-215-898-3375 can give you information on this test. They use the drug on cats quite a bit, but only after running the test to see if it will be helpful. Ask for Dr. Gieger. I have two numbers actually. 1-215-898-8880. I'm sure they would consult with your vet. They called me back and talked quite a while with me and were very helpful. barb ---------------------------------------- From: marc@meows.com Date sent: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 14:44:21 -0700 To: felvtalk Subject: FIV companion? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello, Being that I have FeLV + cats I sometimes (rarely) come across other people looking for companions for their FeLV and/or FIV positive cats. I just brought in a cat that tested FIV + and I don't have room to keep him separate from my FeLV + and - cats. I may be able to keep him for a few months to have him retested. I was hoping someone may know someone looking for a companion for their FIV positive cat. It has been suggested to mix my FeLV + cats with the FIV + cat , but I am against that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Marc ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 17:52:33 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: FIV companion? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Marc, Good luck in finding a home for your FIV baby. I think it's wise to keep them apart. It is a totally different disease and your FeLV cats don't need any more trouble. barb ---------------------------------------- END
