I loved it and made a copy for myself. Really got a chuckle out of it. We where hoping for the same thing of a false postive, but she is still postive. This time there was no numbers given to it this time. Marilyn, I think, has been in contact with the company about removing Sodium Benzoate out of the formula. This is Toxic to cats. Now, the amount that is in it is VERY minute, but when you have a very sick cat, it may not take much. Last I heard, the American producer discovered that their same product in Europe does NOT contain Sodium Benzoate at all and seemed surprized by this. In light of that discovery, they were seriously considering removing it from ours. Any further word Marilyn?? barb ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 08 Aug 1998 22:58:51 +0100 From: "Sonja Lnders" To: Felvtalk Subject: It's American: NUTRI-CAL Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net For all whose kitties could do with more nourishment: Do you know NUTRI-CAL? Forgive me, if this is old news to you, but in the 2 months or so, that I have been a member of this list, it has not been mentioned, but Nutrical is a black paste in a tube that my vet ordered for me when Schurli was very ill and did not eat well. It is a high calorie palatable supplement, containing lots of essential stuff like protein, fat, fibre, vitamins, minerals etc. Schurli liked it, he licked it from my finger!! I have just come across it and noticed it is from an American firm, EVSCO Pharmaceuticals, Buena, NJ 08310, and ic cost about 11$ for 120.5 grams. It is for cats and dogs especially. Sonja ---------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Re: Nutrical Date sent: Sat, 8 Aug 1998 18:25:43 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Sonja, Nutrical is a special bug-a-boo of mine, and I have cautioned people against it's use because of the ingredient *sod benzoate*. I've even been in contact with a Dr Chaudhri, who works there in N.J.- and found out that the European formula does NOT contain this possibly toxic ingredient in its manufacture. Check the levels for ingredients, the Europeans are ahead of us in this regard, and are to be congratulated for being more sensitive to the stuff being fed as supplements to their animals. If you want to be bored to tears, there's more information in our archives about the poss dangers of sod benzoate. peace &light, ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Fw: Nutrical-alternative Date sent: Sat, 8 Aug 1998 18:32:08 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Sonja, Just fished this letter out of my folder, and am re-posting it-- and thanks again to Selena for giving us an alternative supplement to use on pumping up our kitties ! When ( and indeed, *if*) Dr Chaudhri contacts me again with his results before the investigating committee, I will post his letter. Meantime, be cautious with benzoate sodium .. ambrotose and pet-tinic ! y-eah !! ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- From: "James G. Anyway, here is a link to the Univ. of Wisconsin (at Madison)'s Dept. of Bacteriology (yes, FeLV is a virus ) regarding the description of the strains of FeLV: http://www.bact.wisc.edu/ScienceEd/felv2wps.html This site is current as of April 28, 1998. It starts off with a general description of FeLV and statistics regarding infection. The info on these strains and the six phases of FeLV infection begins at the third paragraph. The idea is that there are three strains of FeLV- A, B, and C, with A being the most common and present in all infections. If anyone has trouble accessing this article, please let me know privately, and I'll copy it for you. Copyright prevents me from posting it to this public list. Just so folks on the list know, the Univ. of Wisc. at Madison has endorsed our FeLV project web page (the angelfire site) in this article. Given that UWM is one of the leading research facilities in the country, I take this as quite an honor :) Well, take care, and I'll talk to y'all soon. But I have faith in this guy, and so think that he will get back to us with *something*-- if not, we're getting the word out HERE, and that in itself is as Martha Stewart would say * a good thing* ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- END
