Friday July 31, 1998 Part 1 20 Messages ======================================== From: EchoSynch@aol.com Date sent: Fri, 31 Jul 1998 00:03:52 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Vitamin C: Dosage - Debby Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Debby, Hiya! You are correct. An excess of vitamin C can cause diarrhea. The reason for this is that the cat does not store Vitamin C; it excretes what isn't used. The amount of mg that I am using may or may not be right for your Hershey. I am using 1000 mg daily (started out with 250 mg daily and gradually increased). The *general* rule (I am not a vet nor do I play one on TV) is that you start slowly and increase the amount of Vitamin C gradually until you see a disturbance in the little kitty stools. That help? It's much appreciated as is this wonderful group. The Co Q 10 is something that I'll start right away as Pushy does have gum problems. . .inflammation and tenderness. Sometimes I can tell that it is uncomfortable for him to eat. Discomfort seems to be worse at sometimes than others. I'll also begin vit. C. A few quests. . . could you tell me what "Prozyme" is? haven't heard of it before. Also, I've heard people mention "URI's" in their kitties. . .what is this? Then, too, what is DMG? and where can I find the" FeLV Project Information Sheet"? A couple people sent me some "downloads" but as yet I haven't downloaded them. I'll wait until my friend can show me how to download as I haven't done that, at least successfully, yet. I'm also new to the computer. Maybe that's what they sent me to download??? Again, thanks for all the help and suggests. I'll feel better once I understand what all these terms mean so that I know what people are talking about. Best wishes to you and your kitties. Oh yes, the name "Pushy". Makes me chuckle, Yes, he earned his name. Years ago, when he was just a little tyke and stray who began hanging around my yard, he was adament that he was going to be an "indoor" cat. . .at least whenever he so desired. I was just as adament that not he nor any other cat was going to be an "indoor" cat. I had one already and that was enough. Well, you know who won that one and , yes, that's how he got his name. JACKSON was only sick a couple days, but for 3 more months his eyes & nose ran really bad & antibiotics didn't help. Then I found the "Newer Methods For Treating FeLV+ Cats" web site & I started ImmunoRegulin Protocol A & he improved. The treatment page is at www.angelfire.com/il/felv . Is that where you subscribed to be here?(hope I don't bounce) From the treatments page you can link the FeLV information sheet & much more. That's where the info on Prozyme (makes food more nutritious) & DMG (helps maintain the immune system) is. I'm new to computers too, but if you're having trouble getting somewhere I'm sure someone here will help you out. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net O.k I have a story to tell you guys. Bob has recently decided that she wants to learn to walk on two feet. actually shes doing quite well at it. She can walk from side of the room to the other before she falls. she seems to be spending more and more time doing this. she is also having little success holding something in her front paws while she does this. Now believe me I know this sounds unreal but it is very painfully true. a friend of mine was over a few days ago, she has had many cats in her life and says she has never seen something like this before. I think its absolutely adorable she should be in a circus or something. But heres the painful part . Last night she was trying this again. She was walking around very slowly actually she was just wabbling around trying to hold a ball made wiith burlap aganst her chest. She lost her balance fell backwards smashing her face into the corner of the coffee table knocking three of her teeth out. Now Im worried. she didnt seem to mind cuz she was back at it about a half an hour later. but she does seem soar and was having a problem eating hard food last night. I gave her some x-tra canned food which she ate without a problem.( she loves that stuff) Im just afraid that her teeth wont come back. Do cats have two sets of teeth like we do? I am also worried that if she continues to try walking like this she may hurt herself worse. maybe break a bone or hit her head or something. But how do I make her stop doing this. She seems to be on a mission to perfect this. I dont know if she is just trying to entertain us since we do get quite a kick out of it. or if she thinks she is a person . I have to admitt it is quite hilarious to watch but should I be worried? has any one had this happen before? If I can get her to do it for long enouugh I'll try to take a picture. the only problem with that is I have web tv And theres no way of sending it to post it anywhere. Linda as soon as I get some pictures of her I will send you one as you asked. I've been a bad mommy I havent taken any pictures of the little ( angel) thus far. soon though before she grows up completely. I just hope cats have baby teeth Im gonna call the vet later if she still has trouble eating. Its the front teeth though so hpefully it wont continue to bother her. she does look pretty funny wit her teeth missing. my lttle pirate See ya all soon Sarah and Bob the CRAZY cat. ---------------------------------------- From: "RobertCWhite" To: Subject: swan song--off topic Date sent: Fri, 31 Jul 1998 08:47:41 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net To everyone on the list: I just wanted to thank everyone for all your help but as of Sunday, Aug 2nd, I will no longer be on this listserve. I am moving so I will not have access to the internet. I had told you all that I found a place a month ago where I could have my cats, well, that fell through so I have 2 days to set up a new residence. Nice people, no? I am venting here, so please excuse me. They decided to move one of their friends at the last minute after I already paid and moving everything in. Then they decided that they were all of a sudden allergic to cats and began to say they never agreed to having my 4 cats there--bold face lie. My boyfriend was with me on both occasions when it was discussed. So, all of my possessions are in storage, I have to board at least two cats, stay with a friend for a week, secure a place, and move again. This is costing me so much money--you just can't believe! Plus, because of all this I missed two days of work which was my only chance at an offer from my bosses to earn double pay. They are very cheap. I had to fight to get my money back and they put a restraint order against my boyfriend so he could not help me move. My Dad had to drive an hour to help & one of Bob's friend's helped. It has been a nightmare for me ever since Kettainya passed. She must have been my good luck charm. I am going to try to find a home for my beautiful charcoal grey cat, Beth. While she is being boarded they will see if she is negative or not for leukemia, etc., and I will try to get her spayed. If anyone here can help with finding her a home---a VERY GOOD home, it would be appreciated. She is a little skiddish of new people and doesn't like to be picked up & held, but she is sweet once settled. I live in Tampa, Florida. Thank you all again. I hope to rejoin one day, but hopefully by then leukemia will be a thing of the past. Interesting things to think about there, for sure. Still unsure why there's such a confusion about it, though. Suppose just like about anything else. I still don't know form is best for cats. Pitcairn (and Steve) suggests sodium ascorbate. Many others say calcium ascorbate because it's easier on the stomach. Others say Ester C because it's been mineralized to make it 4 times more effective. Wonder if anyone ever really knows :) In any event, I appreciate the info. He's a bigger advocate of nutrition and homeopathic support. I just didn't feel right about them. Meanwhile, the homeopathic vet did give me a remedy (merc viv) which I began Tails on yesterday. I will certainly keep y'all posted on how we're doing. But the greatest news is that I am working with a holistic vet in Sedona, Arizona who Kat referred me to (thanks again, Kat). Dr. Debbie is amazing and she put all of this into perspective for me. I'm still beaming. There is invaluable information to be sorted through in the Archives, and I believe that this posting-obliquely referred to in the reference made yesterday to * another guy on the list* should be re-posted. His name was Steve, his little girl was Chloe, and may I say that Steve too, had a wonderful sense of humor.... as do I, and at no time, Randall, did Steve's sense of humor turn *randy*. Hope this posting of Steve's sheds some more light on the great Vit C controversy. I will look thru my folder and see if I can find more info that may be pertinent to these discussions, and will be glad to get the information to you all. We are indeed, in this together... I know what you meant about the vet visits. My Patrick has a silent meow and silent hiss UNTIL the CAR RIDE. Boy does he scream and holler very very loud, and at the vets he will hiss at any little dog that comes to his kennel. And Elizabeth, she scream alot anyways, but in the car she howls hystrically. And poor Sohia thank God she has never been ill, she gets tremendoulsy car sick. And our vets is now a 1 hour drive in traffic, 45 minutes no traffic. Did you call the vet yet? She could develop an infection from the loss of her teeth. That trick of hers sounds cute, my Zachary and Patrick do that sometimes but not to that extreme.
