Even though 15 years is a long and good life for a kitty, it doesn't make it any less sad when they go. I have lost soooooo many over the years, and each time I think that with all this "practice" , it should get easier, but it doesn't. . . at least for me. Just want you to know , my heart's with you and I'm thinking of you in your loss. Bye for now, Colleen (Qpeee@aol.com) ---------------------------------------- From: Qpeee@aol.com Date sent: Wed, 29 Jul 1998 05:18:23 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Copies to: Qpeee@aol.com Subject: Re: welcome Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Barb, Thanks so much for the "welcome" note. I am sooooooooo happy that I found this group and all these GREAT and FANTASTIC people to share with. I was so scared and felt so alone with this FeLV in my kitty , Pushy. It's much more bearable when you know that there are others experiencing similar situations, and others that you can actually have communication with.!! Right now I do feel like I'm getting a lot from just reading all the mail. Thanks again! I read your letter about Howling Kitty's great turnaround!! I'm soooooo happy for you both. How excited you must be! My kitty, Pushy, has recently been diagnosed w/feline Leuk. so, of course, I wonder what was your course of treatment for Howling Kitty?? My vet is going to start Pushy on Interferon real soon, but what else should I do? Thanks, Arlene, for any info you can pass on to me. I also noticed if I have the AC on too high they will sneeze. She could just have some dust or some other irritant up her nose. I will send "negative" vibes again. I'm betting it's something easily treated. I'm so glad to hear of Rissa-Tai's continuing good health. Yes, if it is a URI it's best to keep them separate if you can. Even if RT has been exposed, she may not develop it. Maybe at least try to feed them separately and not let LT sneeze near RT if poss. He was home by 5:30 and ate a big dinner. He's seeming pretty well, but something in that basement is aggravating his sinuses... I gave the Antech article (discussion of the new specific FIP test). She said right after that she got a letter/brochure from Cornell claiming the new (FEb '98 Antech) FIP test is not reliable and why. I haven't checked but maybe this rebuttal is on Cornell's web site. Thought Debby & Randall might like to know this. I know it's always such a relief when *that* is over! I'm VERY VERY VERY curious about this letter/brochure that you're referring to that your vet got from Cornell! Am I to understand that you gave your VET the ANTECH article and that this is the same test that Cornell is referring to now - the new ELISA test?!?!? I'd LOVE ( that's an understatement! ) to get a copy of this letter to show to MY vet ! As you probably know, I've still got Hershey locked up in isolation ( now going on week no. 6 ) because of his high titer to this supposed RELIABLE FIP ELISA test from ANTECH.And... Hershey is NOT a happy camper being in here ( another understatement !) Is this possible to get a copy of this letter your vet got... or could I find out more about it to pass along to my vet who obviosly isn't aware of any such letter recently out from Cornell???? Since that time, many of you wonderful people have emailed me and have let me know that I was quite welcome here, and that my contributions and sense of humor were appreciated. Also you helped me to understand that I should just let this go, and focus instead on the well- being of our kittens and not let a sour taste in my mouth take me away from a forum of such great thoughts and magnificent folks. I'd like to thank those of you who jumped in with big hugs. You're very special people. So, I've decided to hang around and continue to enjoy the mutual exchange of ideas and thoughts in an effort to take care of our whisker pals. Meanwhile, there's been lots going on in our house. I've had the benefit to correspond directly with Dr. Pitcairn, who highly recommends the discontinuance of the interferon and all other antibiotics that Tails is on. I've also had the opportunity (sigh) to correspond directly with Dr. Susan Little of Canada. She is the veterinarian who cited the three-marker test for an accurate diagnosis of FIP. I was excited there for a bit because Tails only met two of the markers (white blood cell count is normal), and thus, according to her citation, there was an excellent chance of his not having FIP. Well, after talking with Dr. Little, she believes that Tails does indeed have it. That makes 5 vets now who concur. So I believe that's enough opinions about it for now. I've been thinking about a lot of things lately, asking myself what's the best thing I can do for Tails. For some reason, I've been ignoring my instincts on some of this stuff. But now, I've decided to stop that and go with my feelings. I took Tails off the interferon as of Sunday. As of today, I stopped force-feeding him. This was a tough decision. Tails does eat on his own; he just doesn't eat much. But the entire experience of force-feeding stuff down his throat is stressful on both of us, and I no longer believe it contributes to his well-being. As of yesterday, I started Tails on Ambrotose (thank you, Linda…you've been a blessing). Today, I don't know if it's the Ambrotose or his new protocol, the absence of the interferon, my relaxing into all of this, or what…but he is somewhat perkier. Normally, he would have spent the entire morning in his chair, sleeping, but he has been awake and out all day. Has spent some nice bird-watching time on the lanai (porch..). And he is eating a bit more, I think. I've been rereading Dr. Pitcairn's book and I'm seeing things in a new light. Dr. Pitcairn actually has had some success in treating this thing. In that light, I talked with my homeopathic vet again this morning, and I feel much better about her this time. She is working on Tails' case, and she will have a homeopathic remedy for me to try on Friday (she was thinking calcium..something). I also talked to her about the FIP nosode, and she said that they really try not to do that with this ailment; nosodes are more often utilized with diseases like parvo. Slowly, I'm attempting to convert Tails to a homemade diet, which he is resisting because he sure loves his Science Diet and his canned foods (that is, when he will eat). I believe we'll get there eventually. The rest of his daily protocol is Kyolic aged garlic extract, CoQ10, Vitamin C, echinacea, goldenseal, milk thistle, Pet-Tinic. Vitamin E weekly. Since I'm a big believer in thoughts and how they affect our reality, I'm also taking the attention "off" the FIP and "on" to Tails' well-being. So I'm throwing away the "FIP" label. Maybe I'll just call it mustard. Tails has a little mustard in his immune system, that's all :) In the future, if someone has a problem with my post, you can email me personally. Chastising in a public forum just isn't cool. Again, thanks to you wonderful people who have been so helpful through all of this. I certainly intend to give back all the good things that you've given me. Happy Whisker Thoughts! All people, ALL people are needed, to lose one, any one will weaken us all. As to Tails, sometimes, when we force feed, they don't want to eat at all. I found that with my Merlin. When I stopped, he went a day or two just nibbling, which made me a total wreck, then began to eat fairly well. I hope that will happen with Tails. I am so confused by all the FIP information, if I were you, I wouldn't know what to think anymore. So far, she's w/no spymtoms & hsa not been on any meds except antibotics just a couple times when she's had URI. This new vet I found thinks that it's best to keep Interferon & Im ...Regulin when they really need them. When these meds are given on ongoing basis, cats become immune to them. You know what I think, I think that Tails was really tired & depressed because of Interferon. If you'd like, I'd be most happy to send tails PDG (Vysong makes it). 8oz bottle costs about $13.00. I've had great success feeding my cats Gerber baby food, just spooning it out of the jar & they'd lick it off the spoon. There's some misinfo outthere re: onion powder in baby food not being good for cats but that is true only if they're very young kittens, less than 8 weeks old.
