My co-worker has a 13-14 year old cat who has had major problems for several years, and she has been expecting to lose him for some time. It was a great shock to her to go home the first day of our heat-wave here in California and find that his sister (or cousin) had died during the day - with no signs of illness. The vet thought it was probably a heart-attack. Diana ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 16:41:16 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. Maybe the heat just shut down his systems--it's hard tellin, but please know you are in my thoughts. Everytime my EPC Beatrice opens her tiny mouth to yawn or to groom herself, I just want to kiss that pink tongue of hers. Too bad I'm so neurotic about germs. I lost my precious Alice to anemia & Tessie just wasted away. More I hear wonderful news like yours, mine & others, more I'm thinking there's a lot that can be done for Felv+cats, so long as it's detected & treated early. Please give Howling Kitty a cuddle from me & Beatrice. And his protocol, would you post it please so I can show it to Dr. Kiel. I'll be giving Ninja some hairball ointment (yum) to help smooth and/or soothe things. She (the vet) couldn't find any documentation about steroids and irritable bowels, but she remembers seeing it in dogs. But, that was with a much stronger steroid than prednisone. I had an idea about trying to decrease her dosage again w/o risking more seizures and the vet thought it couldn't hurt to try. What I'm going to do is for a day or two, increase Ninja's phenobarbital dose and THEN decrease the prednisone while keeping the higher phenobarbital dose. Maybe this will work. I hope so. If only because the pred pills are nasty and the phenobarbital pills are mild. But, she's feeling good and played a lot last night and she's just the love of my life! BTW, Belinda was sweet enough to post Ninja's picture on the web!! This may sound strange, but when I got home the night the vet was coming over for the euthanasia, Scruffy was in my bedroom. He came and lay on me and I noticed him looking around, not focusing on anything in the room but on something I couldn't see. I got the weirdest sensation he was being welcomed to the great beyond by all cats good and ancient who had preceded him there. ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 19:07:04 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: Re: Howling Kitty Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I agree! really REALLY wonderful! great news! :-) Debby, & the HBG (the HairballGang) ---------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Re: Howling Kitty Date sent: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 19:39:33 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Arlene, Both you and Howling Kitty are miracles, the healing spirit is strong in you both, How wonderful that you've found each other and can work these miracles to-gether ! peace & light, ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 16:49:51 -0700 From: Robert Frank Organization: A.R.F., Inc. To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Howling Kitty Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Friends: In light of all the commotion that seems to be going on with various members of the list, I'd like to relay some really good news. Howling Kitty went for his checkup today with startling results. He is not only NOT anemic but his heart murmur has cleared up. He has gained from 5 1/2 pounds in March to 11 pounds today! His mouth is clear and his liver enzymes are as near normal as a healthy cat. I'm ecstatic!! Now, I know that this does not mean he is cured or that the felv is gone. But folks, he said that of all the +cats he treats that Howling Kitty is by far one of the most dramatic turnarounds he has ever seen! I don't know what the stress is over on the list-whether it's the heat or whatever. Let me reiterate what I told my Vet. If it wasn't for the people on this list, I would not have my little buddy with me now. Everyone of you have contributed to his well-being as I was simply devastated when Howling Kitty was diagnosed with felv. I simply do not know the words to thank each and everyone of you. I have never had the privilege of talking to such compassionate and knowledgeable people when it comes to cats. Come on folks, let's get along. Howling Kitty and I are so grateful to you all. We all care so much for our kitties and each other, why are we going to let stupid things interfere with that? She is an indoor cat only, and has had no contact with any other cats except for Rissa-Tai, who has been extremely healthy lately. I have left a message at the vet's that I would like to bring her in tomorrow to get checked out. If she had an URI, the only reason that I can see that she would get it is if she is positive. She has been tested on two different occasions since we found out about Rissa-Tai, both ELISA and IFA each time, and has come out negative in each case. Do any of you have any ideas how she could have developed this sneezing other than being positive? Anyway, wish me luck that the vet can see her tomorrow, and that this is nothing to worry about. I'm also worried about Rissa-Tai here. Chuck had mentioned separating them, but the damage has already been done if she does have an URI. Any suggestions?
