I have not yet, it is a thought. We been really lucky with her, she is 4 1/2 now and has never been sick, just the + test for FeLv. Then he will add on a room (for storage and cats) and then build a large enclosure off that room for the cats. We hope to eventually, maybe after a year or two, be able to keep all the cats in MOST of the time. A friend of ours harasses us by saying that eventually we'll have cat enclosures winding through all our 11 acres! She's probably right! She is such a sweetheart, sometimes we call her "honey" in a southern accent because she reminds of us a sophisticated southern belle, lol. My only worry now is if I stressed her up too much with the tyrant of a 7 year old that stayed with us week with his mother. Sophia thanks you for her hugs. In case you are wondering she is all black with a white mark on her chest, with long wispy hair like silk, weighs 9 pounds, has very tiny paws that she uses to eat with. She is a very delicate cat. :-) Gina ---------------------------------------- From: EchoSynch@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 26 Jul 1998 17:30:22 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Vet Update Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Mandy, Wonderful of you. I order it from KV Vet, the 1 oz. with dropper is $4.29, but I get the 4 oz. for 4.99 & use a needleless syringe. You can send for their free catalog at this site: www.kvvet.com . Was the show on FX with Steve Walker, Jack the dog, & Dr. Larry? That's the Pet Dept.. Dr. Larry seems pretty cool, he's under Vets on Steve Lackow's FeLV Support Page, but I haven't written to him. I managed to get one of the two ferals from my bathroom into my "taming" cage on Tuesday. This cage is a kind of playpen with a lid that folds back. It is made of chicken wire and the cats are forced to confront the Big Bag World, i.e. humans and all the things that they do. Sleep, use hairdryers, get dressed, stomp around, talk - you know, all those scary things. He is now so tame that he is ready to home!!!!! He is an absolutely gorgeous pale ginger and white, friendly and purring his head off to absolutely everyone. Still a bit nervous with the dogs (he has obviuosly never seen dogs before) and careful not to offend the other cats. He loves to come out of the cage and be with me - the rule of the cage is that you cant come out until you stop being feral!!! Well, if you coul see him, you would never guess he was feral just a short while ago. However, his brother/sister (a pretty grey tabby) who has been on his/her own now since Tuesday is not doing at all well. Then yesterday I received the third kitten from this same litter and have him/her stashed in my bathroom with the grey tabby. Boy are they wild!! Literally climbing the walls -it is so distressing for everyone. I am putting Rescue Remedy in their water and on all their food. The new arrival isnt eating well and his terrified behaviour is of course affecting the grey tabby negatively as well. It is one helluva job and the only consolation in witnessing their terror is the certain knowledge that they WILL tame eventually and then have many years of happy life ahead of them. Thanks for your input and caring. I did try putting some ACP in their food yesterday (I was so desperate with the new arrival) but of course cats being what they are, they wouldnt eat it so that wasnt much good. I much prefer natural remedies to drugs and I am certain that the RR will help them in time. Hold thumbs (toes, and tails) for me. The only raw meat they are likely to take would be part of my hands and arms!!! These littles guys are crazy wild - literally flinging themselves up the walls in their efforts to get away from me. It is so heart-rending - I really hate this part of the job. As I said, the only consolation is that I know they will come right in time. Perhaps we should think of another name - so many humans I know are anything but "humane" when it comes to animals. And the more bureaucratic, often the less humane. As if it is only people that matter. Hmmphh. Good luck to everyone who is trying to help these innocents. I did manage to split the two up on Tuesday because the little ginger guy was progressing so well I could actually pick him up. since then he has been in my feral taming cage which is like a playpen with a roof that lifts up. It is made of chicken wire and forces to cats to deal with the scary human world. He is now so tame that he can be homed. However yesterday I received the third kitten from thhis same litter and he/she is even wilder than the other two!!! I am using Rescue Remedy in their food and water and will simply persevere. I hate this part of rescuing - witnessing their terror and frantic efforts to get away from me - the person who has rescued them from, at best, a life of scavening in the gutters, and at worst, death by various horrible means. If only I could make them understand that I am here to help. Thanks for your input Hugs and kittens MANDY ---------------------------------------- END
