If your 11 cats are vacinated, you could bring him in. Many of us have mixed houses. I can't lie, there is a certain risk, but it's a thought. You can't turn him back outside, not if he's positive. He can't live in your dark garage. What will you do with him? barb ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 16:03:12 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: getting back to business Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net All, Gosh, what a day. Let's look at what we do agree about. We love our country and that's as it should be. We are as diverse in our views as our cats are in color and that is what makes us what we are. What has drawn us all together, like a family is our love of those cats and that is what this list is about. Being human and like a family, we occasionally get off on a tangent, but when Ariel came under my desk and bit my toe, (she really did, she does that all the time) I was reminded that we are not here so solve the countries problems, but keep our furbabies healthy and happy. I don't think anyone meant to hurt anyone's feelings, so let us all forget all of this, carry on privately if desired and get back to the work at hand. barb ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 11:35:55 -0500 From: Gabriela Mendez Perez Organization: Southwestern Bell Internet Services To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Hershey Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Debby-- The last time I dealt with FIP was about 5 years ago, so perhaps I don't know the latest "scoop" on all the testing. But even recently, when I was talking to my favorite vet, a woman who is brutally honest and very accepting of humans not wanting to subject their kitties to unnecessary vaccinations, I was told that FIP is the one disease vets feel cannot be accurately diagnosed or effectively treated. Also, she told me that a large % of kitties exposed to FIP will remain healthy and lead normal lives. Apparently their systems can deal with the exposure. Mostly very young, very sick, or very old cats have a harder time fighting it off and staying healthy. Cats who do develop the wet or dry form of FIP often (50% of the time) also have FeLV, according to this same vet. Probably none of this is news to you, but I thought I'd pass it on. You're right to be screaming mad. I was, too, when Berenice was diagnosed. As she was already definitely ill, I felt so hopeless and defeated, but I did my best to enjoy my time with her before her death. Since you said Hershey was doing well otherwise, I would think there's a good chance he's fighting it off. If he does that, then you can definitely keep him pumped up afterwards, keep his immune system thriving so that there's little chance he'll ever have to face FIP again. I hope you get some answers from your vet, and I hope Hershey continues to be well and happy, as that's the best indicator you can have of his real condition. Take care, and let us know how he does throughout-- Gabby and los gatos fregados ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 11:35:04 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: RE: Hershey Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Gabby - Just wanted to get back to you and let you know I'm slowly beginning to climb out of the swamp here and be a little less depressed. If anything, I'm now getting ANGRY and want more answers and and want to try to find out more about the reliability of this new FIP ELISA test which I understand a lot of people look at with skepticism. I intend to call my vet again today to discuss this with him and to tell him what some others have said about the reliability of this new test which has yet to be proven 100%. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Debbie, This is late, but. Ambrotose helps the cat produce its own feline interferon, which combats the virus. The Q10 is something new to me, and I am still learning about it but I am using it on Ariel. The Immune system hasn't gone haywire, it's sick. Not working the way it should. So we give things to help bring it back up to speed. Right now, as we speak, there is only one known way to beat FeLV or any of them and that is the cats own immune system. So we want it working on all cylinders. barb ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 23:05:12 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: Re: Hershey's retest update - NOT good news.... I've got a LOT to learn I can see here.... and where exactly does one GET this Ambrotose and how often do you give it, and how much, etc. And the cost??? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Barb, Thank you for the explanation. Oh, Linda and I have emailed in great detail regarding the use and benefits of Ambrotose, and I'm already sold on that before I've even started it. It's just that your post was the first I'd seen to indicate that interferon helps the cat produce their own. I was curious because Tails in on the interferon now. Thanks again. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Randell, Absolutely not! Both do a good job. Ambrotose does more than that. It helps increase the functions of red blood cells and other things. Linda, how about a posting updating the new folks on Ambrotose. The ideal, I think, would be feline Interferon, IM, like humans get it, but cats can't get human interferon that way because it's, well, human. The good news is, they are working on it. barb ---------------------------------------- From: EchoSynch@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 19:43:04 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Hershey's retest update - NOT good news.... I'm just hoping as you can well understand that Hershey's little body with rally and fight this damn thing off and be fine. I guess only time will tell. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net OH MY GOSH!!!! I certainly didn't mean anybody on here!!!!! Please don't think that! I didn't know anything about your plans Jim! I am including with this post a copy of the letter that *I* sent to the mayor myself. Please forgive me if anybody thought that was what I meant. I was talking about the things I have heard on the news that were constantly slamming our country. I personally believe we live in the greatest country in the world. If I didn't think that, then I would move. I just meant that it seems that all the press wants to do is show the negative side of every issue. I get tired of people who are complaining about the military and how hopeless everything is because our government is so corrupt. I have stopped watching the nightly news because the "Fleecing of America" reports. I know there are problems, but I am willing to put up with them to live in our great country. To Jim and anyone else I may have offended--please accept my sincerest apologies. If the letter I responded to (USA USA USA) was directed at anybody on this list, I certainly didn't realize it. I wouldn't say anything hurtful to any of you for anything. Please, if I have offended anybody else, write to me privately and I will send you a personal apology. I am so very sorry if I shot my mouth off about something that I didn't even realize was there. Very Humble Apologies, Angela. Here is the message I sent to Mayor Giuliani's email on 7/24/98 at 4:47 p.m. and I would have been thrilled to forward a form letter--I didn't even think of doing that, but then, that is why Jim is our leader! Mayor Giuliani: I usually don't write to my own politicans, but when I read the story about how the tenants of the evacuated buildings were not permitted to rescue their animals, I was outraged. If there are people volunteering to go in and do the actual rescue, then you should let them go. Let them sign waivers if you need to, but let them go. Good grief, those animals have been 3 days without food or water. That is ridiculous. I hope they vote your sorry butt out of office next election. Rapists and murderers get more humane treatment than that. Don't just sit there...DO SOMETHING!!!! My vet doesn't think JACKSON has a tumor, he just said it could be possible & undetectable now. But you know how we are when the vet mentions something. JACKSON has the rolley-polley body type & he looks good sitting or laying, but when he walks his stomach sticks out a little. He's had that shape even before he got sick. We joke that it would have to be a GIANT tumor or else he swallowed a melon. Or, we ask him when his kittens are due. Beth ---------------------------------------- END
