If my cats dont like someone, boy that's it - they are not welcome in my house. Also some peole are just better with cats than others - guess you must be one of them. Lucky Jodi! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Angela, I agree with Barb. Although she has responded lovingly to you and your family, the site of her old owner probably brought back memories that she wished she didn't have, and she was scared she was being sent back. Obviously, the time she spent there was quite traumatic for her. It sounds like she has come a long way from when she was there. Give her and Poncho time. I was just watching Animal Planet Emergency Vet, and although the segment was on dogs, the situation was this: a little dachsund had been bitten several times by the German Shephard, to the point of shunts and stitches. This happened on more than one occasion. The owners finally brought in an animal behaviorist, and the problem was domination - since both were females, they were fighting over being the dominant animal. I don't think your cats will get to this point, but it might be something to keep in mind when it comes to giving out attention, treats, dinner, etc - who goes first. Obviously, Princess Jodi thinks she already owns the place! Good luck with them - they will come around. My two took quite a long time, even though one was a kitten and one was two. Just be patient. We're all pulling for you over here. I am sure that all it needs for your very shy and scared new arrivals is TIME and lots of patience. Once it took me 2 years for a very shy and terrified tom to allow me to touch him!! After that he became very loving, but slowly. Now I have a similar case her in Portugal: In February 97 the vet was going to put down a beautiful female kitten a lady had brought in, because it bit and scratched and attacked everyone, even as it was fed! Well, I looked at her..........it was a fight to get her into the box......I called her Sweety Pie to everyone's mirth. Well, 17 month later I can pick her up occasionally, she will rub herself against my legs when she is hungry, purrs, when I stroke her, but is very shy of others and even runs from me if I move about quickly. She is very much a cats cat, became friendly with the others immediately I let her out of my bathroom after 2 nights. Mandy, what a shame I did not know about you when I was in Durban for 3 days in April! Sorry to have been quiet lately, but having a houseguest I only managed to skim thru the e-mails! Schurli had his 10th Baypamun shot last night, and is fine - touch wood! He still spends most of the day sleeping but ventures out more often now for a walk round, he even stayed outside overnight twice lately, but we did have a heatwave and it was nicer in the garden! (The first time I thought I had lost him and had an awful night, searching for him until the early hours!) But in the morning he walked in bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (literally) and demanded breakfast. I am told to pause with Baypamun fot 2 weeks now, then give another course of 10 shots SC. In the meantime I have 2 homeopathic liquids to give him by IM shots or orally - I am opting for the latter,( having just learned to give SC injections), although it means he has to get it more often. One is called Carbonylgroup, consisting of : Glyoxal D6 aquos and Methylglyoxal D6 aquos. The other is Coenzyme Compositum, both are of German origin. I shall also carry on with the VitC and Ambrotose, and - much less popular with him - the Pet-tinic, all of which were so kindly donated by Marilyn! (I am saying thanks to you and Selena each and everytime I handle your gifts, dear Marilyn, you are so generous!). With the Ambrotose now running out I hope the new order will arrive soon, thanks to Saliha and Linda! I still have not been able to get any tests done on Schurli, the vets arguments being, it would only stress him and would make no difference to the treatment we could give him: H e i s a l r e a d y ge t t i n g t h e b e s t p o s s i b l e t r e a t m e n t t h e r e i s !! How can I argue against this? Sorry - so long! Love to all of you 2 and 4 legged friends! You people feel like the closest friends I have, united in this fight for the lives of our beloved furries! This will help soothe his insides. Also, add some acidophillus to his food to help re-populate his intestines with the 'good' bacteria (which helps him digest his food). What's acidophillus and where can I find it, I've seen something similar in yoghurt (it's a special type of yoghurt that says it helps you digest better) can this be possible??. Yesterday I couldn't resist any longer and I headed to the clinic where Lucky spent his last 3 days. Now Benito's vet doesn't have a clinic so whenever a test is needed I go to this one. I talked to one of the vet's there (who also happens to be so nice and handsome...., but I'm an engaged girl :-)) and told him about Benito's symptoms and what you guys had told me about giardia and coccidia. He agreed with you guys (my "spiritual guides" as I told him) and he will check Beno next monday, cause just this saturday Benito was wormed again so we have to wait till he can get a shot against coccidia. He told me giardia is not a common parasite here in Chile, and also that coccidia was an intra cellular protozoa. I hope this message doesn't bother anybody, I know it isn't about Felv but as I said before, you guys have taught me so much that I can't help asking you these questions cause I KNOW at least one of you will have something to teach me. We can also get just the acidophillus in capsule form at a health food store - some types need to be refrigerated, some don't. It's good Benito will be getting a second opinion, even if you have to wait until next Monday. Keep us posted! This new vet is exceptional, and I'm so glad that we went. He said he was willing to try anything that I wanted to help Tails. He does think that Tails has FIP, the dry form which is hard to diagnose. Also, Tails is completely blind, which might explain why he's not been really eating, because his sight and his smell have been compromised. Today we began Tails on the interferon alpha therapy, 1ml daily. Also, I got some Hills A/d prescription diet for Tails to eat, by force if necessary. Also, some Pet-Tinic, some Gentocin Durafilm eye drops, and some Cefadroxil as an antibiotic. The good news is that Tails gained 1/2 pound in the last 7 days. Gosh I know there's a long road to go, but I'm hopeful. The vet assistant said that Tails looked so much better than she thought he would, based on the test results I had faxed. Who knows, Tails just might be getting the message that I'd like him to stick around a while. The bottom line for me is that at least I know I'm doing everything I can for my kitty. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Randall and Tails Welcome to the list. I have no expierence with FIP or any of the drugs you have metioned. But I do know before we lost our Rubin our vet was considering using Interferon but decided agaist it because she needed something that was a bit more stronger to boost his bone marrow. She had used L-asparagine injections on him, he did start to show a psotive reaction to it but his FeLv was too far advanced this go around. If I am not mistaken I believe that it was a chemo she used. With our Sophia we are not treating right now because she is very healthy, just FeLv +, but I think that we are going to lean more towards Interferon because of all the postive results we have heard on it. We wish you luck. Tails is one lucky cat to have you. FIP is so difficult. So little research seems to be done on it. Your vet is a keeper, most just shake their heads and say nothing can be done. We with FeLV cats know there is no cure out there, but there are ways to keep them well and with us much longer than ever before. I see no reason why FIP should be any different. You might ask that vet if he would like to be on our list of vets that we have on the angelfire site for folks to find vets in their area that are willing to go that extra mile. Good luck. My brother the lurker has a blind cat. Maybe he can give you some hints on how to make life a little easier for Tails. barb ---------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 17:00:39 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Re: Vet Update Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Randall Great news about Tails. We did not give any special things to her but we did give her lots of patience, company, and time. There is something called calming essence that can be put into the water that was given to us by our dog trainer that helps calm the animals down in stressfull situations. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, For humans: from 4 to 6 drops are taken under the tongue 4 times a day; on rising, between meals during the day, and before bedtime. It is safe however to use every 10 to 15 minutes when and as needed. So, for kitties: use 2-4 drops in a small (just to make sure they drink it) amount of water 2-4 times a day or whenever they finish the water. This is what I've used for all of the flower essences. The nice thing about using them is, if it's the right remedy you see an improvement, but if it's not the right remedy nothing happens - no negative effects, nothing. Sohpia and Zach where abused when they where kittens by children. Well, when he came here Sophia put her ears back and scattered to under the bed hiding (She never does that) . Zachary is holding his ground, he knows that he is a huge cat and will put the boy in his place if needed, (he has guard on top of the bed). And the little kittens realized that children are not their thing and now hides as well (After their night of staring at him for 20 minutes while he slept on a matress on the floor). Right now my friends went to N.H. so my cats have a break. They are running everywhere like they are rejoicing. One more day and they are gone.
