Date sent: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 15:46:38 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi! Two and a half years ago, my Stinker went to get neutered and found out he had leukemia, also I think he has FIV because of the symptoms. Anyway, at that time, I had no money and no credit with the vet( now I have lots of credit!!!:)) At that time I had just lost my cocker spanial with an immune disease so I started giving Stinker those on my own. Eventually, I did make it to the vet and he started him on the immunoregulin. What I am trying to say is Stinker is alive today because of the great love that I have for him. You just love that kitten with all of your heart and the rest will come. I like you didn't know anything about leukemia except that they die. I have lost so many of my babies but I am learning and so can you. Stinker will be three years old in August!:) Read and read and experiment with these great new supplements and medicines. Their will be very bad days but there will be good days also. Hang in there!..........Lynn(Stinker) ---------------------------------------- From: "Moermond, Barbara" To: "'felvtalk@MailingList.net'" Subject: RE: Sarah..... The hard part is to not let the bad days discourage you too greatly because more often than not, there are good days right around the corner. Hang in there!! Date sent: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 17:21:34 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Liz, I know how you feel about bringing all of your kitties out of the great outdoors.:) Last year I decided to bring all mine in.....16! I got a lot of kitty boxes and put food and water all over the house and little boxes of grass, etc. There was a dog in my trailer park that got one of my babies. Punctured his lung........950.00 worth and pain and heartache. She made it through all of that and I brought her home only to find out a couple of weeks later she had leukemia and died shortly after. I can tell you what I think of killer dogs but not here.:) Barb is very right cause they don't want anything to do with the great outdoors. I have a new "killer dog" that has tried to get my babies in their own inclosed porch! I think I put I stop to that. They are so spoiled now. They are safe, warm, cool just rotten!:O) I think it only took about a week for them to get use to being indoor kitties. And you get alot closer to them as they do to you................Lynn(Stinker) Oh, also my kitty Rowdy caught her leukemia from running loose. She came home one day with an abcess from a cat fight. Not worth it at all. ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 21:01:40 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: Re: FIP test Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net At 10:12 PM 6/29/98 EDT, you wrote: >Can anyone tell me it the new FIP test is done in a lab, or in the vets >office? Okay.. now you've got ME curious.. why would your vet ask this question???? It will help him to be less stressed during the visit. You can get it at any health food store, or go to bachcentre.com to see the manufacturer's website. Keigan's cbc came out perfectly normal. I'm very happy about it. Now I just need one more bit of advice. The vet asked again if I wanted to start him on the immunoregulin. I don't know what to do, because he insists that it needs to be done intravenously, and Keigan gets so stressed out when we try to do anything to him at the vet. The vet said it's not a very large amount to give, so it wouldn't really take that long, but it's just the part about getting him to sit still and get the thing in him. It would have to be done 2x a week for 2 weeks, then 1x a week for 2 weeks, and then 1x a month. Once we get the initial 4 weeks overwith, I don't think it will be THAT bad, but I don't know. Since he's so healthy right now, I'm trying to convince myself that he will be able to handle the stress, instead of putting it off until he's weaker and really needs it. I won't bring him in to work with me and keep him there for the afternoon, I'll make regular appointments in the mornings so that he can go and come right back home as soon as the ordeal is over. I really would like to get him on the immunoregulin, but I don't want to do anything to stress him too much. I'd just like to know if you guys think it would be worth it or not. Thanks for all your concern and support about his bloodwork!!! Actually, our cats stick pretty much close to home, although in the past I've lived in the country and had many, many kitties disappear. An owl would have to be the size of a B52 to take any of my cats, for sure! The logistics of getting them tested, however, are daunting--I have one cat who will probably need to be tranquilized and hogtied (he was ill-treated in his kittenhood) for any vet to get near him! Well, I'm running on---thanx again! lizB ---------------------------------------- To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Date sent: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 23:28:32 -0400 Subject: Re: information From: naohalloran@juno.com (Naomi J O'Halloran) Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Sarah, and welcome to the list. First of all, I understand how devastaed you are, but don't give up on your little kitty, especially since she's nice and healthy. You should speak to your vet about the drugs that you've read about, especially interfuron and immunoregulin, and find out if he's willing to get them for you and treat your kitty with them. If not, I think you should find another vet who will, preferrably one who has had some experience with them before. James Wilson's treatments page tells you where they can be ordered from, but they have to be ordered by a vet. I hope that you have some luck with your vet. We will all try to do our best to help you also. Please don't think it was your fault at all because he was staying with you at the time. It's probably unlikely that any of you cats have it if they never were in contact with him. The virus doesn't do so well once its in the open air. Good luck with their testing and vaccs. You probably did, but the very first thing that comes to my mind when a kitten has a huge belly like that is worms. Did you have a fecal sample run on him? If not, you should, and if he was only wormed once, he may need it again. We usually worm kittens twice when they come in for their kitten shots. The second worming should be about a month after the first. You'll find much useful knowledge here. I personally took in a cat a little older than yours that I didn't know was positive until March of this year. I guess that I'm learning like you are. I do know that if if wasn't for these wonderful people, my kitty may have been dead by now. My Howling Kitty has FeLv and advanced LymphoSarcoma. He is on inteferon every third night and Prednisolone daily. He is on 2cc of Petinnic daily. I'm not much of a medical authority or may not have anything of value to say to help your baby. I will say this. We will be here for you should you ever need to talk about your kitty or his treatment. I guess the vital thing is to do what is best for your kitty and yourself. Finally, you're doing a wonderful thing by taking such good care of your friend. Remember, Angels may come to us as strangers-treat them well! Much peace. If she wants tidbits or treats, I would give them to her too. Having some extra weight in the event of illness can help a cat greatly. Keep treating like the royal being that she is.
