Not ever having had ANY experience with FeLV before ( thank goodness ) I'm not aware of how this disease progresses, what the symptoms are, how it's transmitted ,etc. And... up until last Jan... ( when my poor Cosmo got sick with FIP ) I didn't know a thing about that either and now know more than I'd ever want to! :-(( Debby, & the HBG (the HairballGang) ---------------------------------------- From: "zimmerman" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Re: Nikita Update Date sent: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 12:01:18 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Charlie, To add to what's already been posted: I have a list of household medications you can use for pets from Drs. Foster & Smith, the Kaopectate dosage is 1 ml. per lb. every 2 hrs. - Pepto Bismol is not recommended for cats - Di Gel liquid is OK, but Mylanta isn't mentioned. If at all possible antibiotics should be taken until gone. Stopping them when symptoms go away is why we're getting super bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics (in animals & humans). For the good of your pets & everyone's future please finish all antibiotics! I'm glad you keep writing & have gotten encouragement from the list. Good luck with Nikita. I have been quiet lately but that was because I have no bad news to report.. whether my babies have FeLV or FIP is immaterial to me at this point: I found a regime that truly works for them: 1. Pred on a daily dosage of half a tablet twice a day 2. Viokaze (digestive enzymes) twice a day 3. Supportive homeopathic kidney treatment 4. Doxysyrup The affected cats are well, playing, and eating like horses. This has been working for me for 3 months and I truly hope that it will work for a longer period. The affected cats all got snuffles (it's winter here in South Africa) and they survived wonderfully. Hope this helps someone out there....... The acidophilus simply replaces good bacteria so I believe they can be taken together. I always have. It's inert, can be fully sterilized, stored at room temp, and doesn't require typing and cross matching. It's got great market potential ! Are they using it in Dogs ? ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Nina :) Date sent: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 14:18:50 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net This list could definitely use some positive influences.. it's our JOB to spill the beans ON GOOD NEWS, so we can all bask in the reflected glory.. we're here for BETTER or FOR WORSE... and Better is a balm to our souls.... and worse... lessens. good job Nina, ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- From: "zimmerman" To: "felvtalk" Subject: FIP info. Date sent: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 14:32:12 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Debby, or anyone who wants FIP information, The Aug. issue of Cats magazine has a letter from Dr. James Richards, the Director of Cornell U. Feline Health Center. It's in response to a FIP article from the April issue & he & the author of that article discuss/debate the latest info. on FIP, including the vac., AZT, ImmunoRegulin, & interferon. (They both agree there are still many cloudy issues.) The article isn't on-line because it wasn't April's feature & the letters are in the reader's forum, so they won't be either. If you can find the Aug. Cats in a store it's only $2.95 & has many good articles, or maybe somebody on the list who has a scanner gets the mag. & can send you the letters. The letters are long (over a page) & detailed, but with your vets help you can find out what's best in your situation. Beth P.S. Are Skylar & Bunny your Ragdolls? I'm partial to ordinary strays, but the Ragdolls in the magazine breed ads are so cute. I love the ones with the masks. ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 14:46:20 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: three ring circuits Subject: RE: FIP Article in CATS magazine Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Beth- THANKS so much for pointing this out to me ( and anyone else who needs to know this ). I get this magazine but believe it or not, hadn't had a chance to look at this issue yet!! I just RAN and grabbed the magazine and want to thank you again for mentioning this . Oh. and YES... Skylar and Bunny are my Ragdolls - they're both Seal-mitted so they each have 4 white feet and dark brown points. Debby, & the HBG (the HairballGang) ---------------------------------------- END
