I'm sorry to hear of the diagnosis, but we have many kittens here who have been managed symptom free for long periods of time, and many who have despite symptoms, enjoyed quality of life with their parental-units.... Anitra Frazier's Natural Cat Book was for me a trove of recipes and holistic recipes. You might want to get a copy, and of course, our Archives are free for the time involved. peace, ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- From: Paula Lazo To: "'FelvTalk List'" Subject: Rain dance Date sent: Wed, 24 Jun 1998 16:34:09 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Kathy: I just got the news of the Florida fires, I really do hope no lives have been at risk during these disasters. I will try some rain dance for you and the people in Florida and for Santiago too, maybe you don't know but it's said to be one of the most polluted cities in the world. The smog here makes every single baby born in Santiago a bronchitis patient for a life time. We get headaches, red eyes and God knows what future side effects wait for us. I'll be sending our few winter clouds to Florida, please take care. Some nights, it's usually in the evening, he just acts so strange, it is kind of hard to explain. He gets very aggresive and he growls at anything. He sleeps right next to my pillow, on his own. I am very cautious. I will lay my hand next to his paw and he will grab it. If I hold still, he won't hurt me. Then out of the blue, he will jump up to the wall beside the bed as if he sees something. He has trouble staying asleep. I was up and down all night watching him. He is very restless at these times. One moment he can be very affectionate and then turn around and be the opposite. Yesterday, I did notice one of his pupils was very dilated. It's alright today. He doesn't act like this all of the time, but I have been noticing it more lately. I have never encountered anything like this before. I have a Jeckle and Mr. Hyde Cat!:} I don't know what you all can do, I just thought it kind of strange...........................Lynn(Stinker) ---------------------------------------- From: "Corvus Corax" To: Subject: Re: Stinker-strange behavior Date sent: Thu, 25 Jun 1998 01:48:11 +0200 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello, how much room does Stinker have to run around? How much toys, how much activities? Maybe he's just hyperactive and doesn't have enough ventiles to pour out energies. Maybe you try to play with him, if he likes and joins in, real wild games that will make him run and jump (like swinging around a long string - I have a long horsewhip with a long string and a little felt box at its end. I can chase my Lucy all around the rooms, up and down the furnitures, without moving too much myself). As long as Stinker has only FeLV, extended playing won't harm him, as long as it is combined with fun. On the contrary, a little romping helps to forget uneasiness. I have missed a lot of the list and so I don't know if you've checked for any physical reason that might cause the aggressions. A wound, an inflamation, a tumor or simply a hurting tooth or whatever should be detectable by the vet, you might ask yours for advice. But have good hopes, maybe Stinker is just bored, pissed and grimmily seeking for fun and action and some extra attention. Did you put Stinker on any medication after the last time he was exhibiting this erratic behavior ? We had a discussion about the use of Elavil at that time, and the possibility of Stinker's irritability being pain induced? Do you think it's seizure activity that you might be looking at ? The dilation of the pupil strikes a chord, I can only hope that pressure isn't the cause. Maybe others have better answers for you ? peace & light, ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 24 Jun 1998 18:23:25 -0700 (PDT) From: The Drunken Celt Subject: Re: Grey's Introduction To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net ---Cheri Gardiner wrote: > > Fugee, > You've come to the right place. He just said if I could keep him secluded from the other cats for about two weeks they are doing to go another test (to check his bone marrow) to see how far (if any) its progressed. The vet was very nice, and said there was a remote remote possibility that grey could fight it off...the more I read I see that its very possible that he can fight it off..:> > I give my two enchincea (a drop) in with a small dab > of baby food meat. Date sent: Wed, 24 Jun 1998 19:55:38 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Claude, I had the elavil but I decided not to use it. I know he is in pain, but not enough to end his life. He still has his good, playful, my old Stinker ways.:) His eyes have been bothering him alot lately. I have been treating them with Collidal Silver also orally along with the Antirobe. I was going to try and get him off of the antibiotics but he hasn't been feeling all that good lately. He is very affectionate this evening, lots of head butts and purrs but I know he isn't feeling well. I wouldn't hesitate taking him to the vet except that I know he won't know what to do. Like I have said, he leaves it up to me on what to do and I am doing all that I know to do. Maybe a depro shot would help for now. I have just been trying to avoid steroids but if it will help the pain, I think that is what I will do for now...................Lynn(Stinker) ---------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: stinker Date sent: Wed, 24 Jun 1998 23:12:46 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Lynn, Why not try the Elavil first ? You may have some improvement, and not need the steroid ? ..marilyn.. ---------------------------------------- From: "Cheri Gardiner" To: Subject: Re: Grey's Introduction Date sent: Wed, 24 Jun 1998 22:19:14 -0600 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nope. Kitty, my Manx , is the positive one. The new cats will be exposed, but they will have a longer life with us than they would have had outside. The one was due to be put to sleep the day after I took her. Chaz is immune to the disease now as long as another strain doesn't come into the house. Both new cats have been tested, negative on both. Some cats are naturally negative and will never get it. My vet says the chances of the new cats getting it are very small. The enchincea is the same as I use. They just get one drop. Ask your vet about immunoregulin and interferon. They are xcellent and do help. Stinker is doing pretty good tonight, he is up and around and eating and doesn't seem in as much pain. I guess I am just trying to figure out what to do here. It helps just to get feedback.:) I'll start tonight with the elavil. Thanks for your help.:) ...................Lynn(Stinker) ---------------------------------------- END
