Also, I don't have a scanner, so her picture isn't posted anywhere, but someday... She is a Siamese, probably a mix since she is larger than a purebred, her hair is a little different, and her face isn't so narrow. She's very pretty with a beautiful long tail, that she shwishes against us instead of rubbing or headbutting us. At this point in time, this is what we're doing for her: We see the vet every two weeks. At that time, we run a cbc to check everything out, and also to keep track of what's going on since she had the plasma cell myoloma. During these visits, she receives two injections, Immunoregulin 0.4 mg/cc, and DepoMedrol 20mg/ml. The Depo is easier on her system than prednisone was, and it's definately easier on us not having to pill her! At home, she gets Interferon, 1 cc every third day. She also receives Pet- Tinic, 1 ml (1 dropperful) twice a day, and Vetri-Science Vetri-Liquid DMG .5 ml daily, divided in two doses (1/4 dropperful in am and pm). She eats Science Diet Light and Science Diet Growth, half and half (this is to try to keep Lai-Tai from not gaining so much weight. We use the growth formula because it has more nutrients for her). Into this, we mix 1/4 tsp of digestive enzyme (we're currently using Pancrezyme Powder, but I prefer Prozyme) per cup of food. We also mix Ambrotose into her food, 1/4 tsp. for every two cups of the Science Diet (we were having an awful time getting the powder directly into her). We just dump the food into a plastic baggy, add the powders, and shake. Voila. She also gets a 1/4 can of Friskies every night that she shares with Lai-Tai, so we're not sure how much of that she eats as well. Her favorite cookies are Pounce tartar control and Trader Joe's cat treats, which she has us well-trained to give her any time she wants. :) That's about it. So now you know what she gets and what she eats, and also that she is very spoiled. If you have any more questions, let me know. DMG (Dimethylglycine) is an amino acid that stimulates T-cell production and activation, thereby helping to maintain the immune system. Dr. Myers suggests the dosage at 50 - 100 mg as the usual daily dose for a 9 or 10 pound cat. (In liquid form, that translates to .5 - 1 ml) It's best divided into two doses. You can buy it in pill form at a good health food store (It's put out by FOODSCIENCE and called AANGAMIK). I order it in liquid form from KV Vet Supply Company, 800-423-8211. Your vet can get this through the Vetri-Science Corporation. Jim, can this info be put on the FAQ sheet in answer to the question "Is there anything I can do to help maintain the cat's immune system?" or something along those lines. You should check the archives about eye problems, uneven dilation, uveitis etc. Ninja has had problems with her pupils for years, and since the seizures started, her right eye seems to be permanently dilated and that eye is sensitive to light - she'll have that eye almost closed and sometimes her nictating membrane is extended quite a bit, although that's usually when she's having problems with her seizures and isn't feeling well. Keep us posted!! Thanks for the tip. I have the 4oz. & 1oz. bottles & I see it's on the 1oz. label, but not the 4oz.. I thought they meant to split the loading dose, but I might as well split the daily dose. BTW the 1oz. label says store in a cool, dry place & the 4oz. says refrigerate after opening. JACKSON & Rissa-Tai have a very similar protocal. He's as close to "symptom free land" as you can get without actually being there, & I hope she has a l o n g visit. I'm glad it's nothing worse, although it makes me freak to think the other cat could be a carrier of something--like FIP. Last saturday on our way to the beach, my boyfriend and I adopted a kitty that was in a very poor condition at a gas station outside the city of Santiago. We took him with us, and inmediately after arriving to the beach we got rid of his tons of fleas (Front Line does wonders), he got a foam bath and was fed. He spent the night with us at the hotel and travel all the way back to Santiago sleeping peacefully in the car. Last night he got a real bath, and it revealed a lovely white with grey spots kitty (he's probably around 6 or 7 months old). We named him Benito and hopefully he'll visit the vet today. Needless to say I'm terrified of him having the felv, but it's a risk I have to run, I couldn't leave him over there. He's really sweet, purrs a lot and it seems he's used to people, but we think he might have been beaten or mistreated because sometimes he goes paranoid over the tv remote or something that looks like it might hurt him. Keep your fingers crossed for Benito and I'll keep you posted on the results of the tests. (I've changed times to correspond w/ petloss.com) CANDLE CEREMONY Written by Lisa Singer (lsinger@aol.com) The candles being lit tonight; Cast a soft and welcome flame. And draw our loved ones to the light, As we call to them by name. Imagine spirits taking flight, For a moment our souls entwine. Say not Good Night, but in some Brighter Time Bid them all- Good Morning. WE GATHER TOGETHER TO HONOR AND REMEMBER OUR PETS Tonight, Monday, we join hands, hearts and souls across the land as one large extended family to pray for our sick and dying pets and to pay tribute to our furbabies who have gone ahead to Rainbow Bridge. Someday, we will meet them again, with hugs, tears and kisses, as we walk together, in eternity, to our new home. Until that blessed day, we honor these precious souls and remember them with the warm glow of flickering candles, sending a message of love, light and healing, and the faith to believe in miracles. PRAYER: God, Creator of all living things, we ask that as we light our candles, the healing warmth of love will flow into the brokenhearted who are tending their ailing pets. Give to them Your strength and comfort. We also pray that the soft glow of light will part the clouds of grief and sorrow to surround our furbabies at the Bridge. May excitement REIGN SUPREME as wagging tails and ecstatic purrs feel our gentle touch once again. May they know the gratitude we hold in our hearts for their faithfulness and gift of unconditional love as they are forever remembered. We are temporarily separated for only a short while. The silver cord that connects us through time and space can never be broken. AMEN.
