Well, Jake, who is FIV is having something going on with his eye. He closes it alot so I know something is irritating him. I just noticed it a few hours ago. Also, his nictating membrane in the same eye was up. I put some triple antibiotic ointment in it that I obtained about a month before Panther's death when he had a scratch in it. If it's not better tomorrow I'll take him to the vet. Any input/suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, Nancy P.S. Boy, everyone must be busy enjoying summer today; there sure isn't much going on on this list. ---------------------------------- Date: Sun, 14 Jun 1998 21:40:06 +0000 From: LawBet Subject: Re: Eye problem To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Reply-To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, The Lurker is monitoring tho. The cat, a rather large (17.5#) previous outdoor cat had all shots/vac previously so we thought he was covered. He is home tonight for the first night (14.5#) - the vet was rather "strong" in her urging of putting down the cat, so I am glad I found this list and any words of suggestion/advise would be appreciated. I checked my Home Vet. Handbook. Is Jake's eye watering? If his = pupils look the same size & his eye isn't bulging or sunken he probably = just got something in it, or maybe scratched it on tall grass or = something. If you can examine his eye & you see something in it you can = try to flush it out with cool water. If not, I agree you should take him = to the vet, something could be caught under his 3rd eyelid or it could = be a different problem. I say "was" because I haven't checked it out lately. After I put the ointment in the eye and gave him a treat (also took his temp--normal), he fell asleep under the table and I don't want to disturb him. I think his pupils were the same size, although when I examined him for a minute in the bedroom, they looked different. A second later when I positioned him differently, they looked the same size so I thought perhaps I imagined it. I don't think I'll be able to flush the eye out since the ointment makes the eye greasy . . . but I may try. I'm going to call the vet first thing in the morning. This is making me very uneasy since I just lost Panther a month ago. Jake had his bloodwork done on Saturday and his platelets are down so . . . I am trying not to panic. I sure appreciate the info, Beth. Thank you for caring. Nancy ---------------------------------------- END
