There is a scientific name for it--unfortunately escaping me at oment but I am positive that it is not a seizure. From what I do remember, this condition can be controlled with medication and kitty will be fine. I will be talking with my friend this weekend and will get all the technical info about Dusty (her kitty) and pass it on to you sometime next week. Let me know if you'd like to receive it through private e-mail tho because it is totally unrelated to FELV (we can be thankful for that!!). I felt so bad for her. We will keep an eye on her and next time it happens she is going to the vets. I am not sure if it was a bite or not, none of our animals have any fleas at all. There where no red marks or anything that would have showed a bite. Poor little thing, she does not like to feel sick or anything at all. It alomost looked like a muscle spasm that she did not know how to handle. Thanks for the advice Gina ---------------------------------------- From: Nancy A. I'd say something else like a wasp, but if there was no visible bite? I don't know . . . keep us posted. Nancy ---------------------------------------- From: Nancy A. I wish I could see the cat. This will probably sound bizarre to you, but I have some questioning beliefs about reincarnation and other weird stuff and you relating this story just sounds so strange. I was expecting you to say, "He needs a home," and me going nuts wondering if I could take him. So I'm glad you didn't (I think). I would love it if you could describe the cat to me. I hope your friend can adopt "Amigo" and find comfort in his friendship. Incidently and strangely, Panther LOVED turkey breast--to the point that wherever he was in the house, he would be standing next to me the moment the refrigerator door opened if he knew we had turkey. Keep me posted . . . I am intrigued! Nancy ---------------------------------------- From: James G. Although FIP comes to mind, the cat apparently tested negative for it and FeLV. Please respond to this person at their address: Ignacio A. Morrison ignacio@nyssa.com.ar since they are not on the list. You may want to Cc a copy to the list so that we can confer on what this might be. Thanks all. ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- From: "Ignacio A. Morrison" To: Date: Wed, 10 Jun 1998 23:17:17 -0300 Hi, I have a siamese (female), who started to get fatter. At first I thought is was her diet, but then I realized that something was going wrong. I went to the my vet. and she was tested for FeLV and PIF, but both resulted negative! She was given something for eleminating the liquid she has in here chest, but since Tuesday (June 3) she is not eating and she is getting worst. She drinks a lot of water and most of the time she is hidden. Now my vet suggested to make a radiography to look for a tumor, and also examine her heart. But I don't think she will survive much longer if this vet continues hesitating. Please, tell me if you have seen something similar and what I can do. Or tell me if you know someone who I could ask for help. Thank you very much, Ignacio. ---------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, June 10, 1998 8:27 PM To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Strange and unusual behavior Gina, The only time I have seen a cat (or dog) act that way is if they are being bitten by something. Have your friend take a good look and make sure there are no fleas or skin mites. If she has an inflamed area, or even if there is not, you may want your vet to take a skin scraping an take a look under a microscope, just to be sure. I don't think she's crazy! Obviously, something was hurting her somehow and she was reacting to it. I mean it could be something as an abcess or an infected hair follicle or something equally odd. Let the vet take a look, it sounds like whatever it is, it really bothers the poor thing! barb ---------------------------------------- From: meowmama@bellsouth.net Sent: Wednesday, June 10, 1998 6:50 PM To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: New Kitten Cheri, Concatulations on the new member of your family! She is felv negative, in the afternoon she was laying on her chair and I was in the other room when I heard her screach out and then growl. I thought her brother was attacking her so I went to her rescue. Problem was she was alone and was growling and screaming as she was vigoursly licking her back. I noticed that her back was twitching where she was licking. I thought maybe she got bit by an insect but I saw nothing there. She then ran from room to room stopping about every 5 - 10 feet to lick again, growl, and scream. She was acting very agitated and She was acting very hysterical, more so than usual (our friends say she is psycotic, Lol). Anyways I tryed to call the vet last night but she was not in. I am away now on a trip and JoAnn is home with the "kids", we wanted to know if anyone has any idea what happened. It lasted about an hour, the last 15 minutes she worked herself up so much that the poor thing was panting her nose beet red and hot hot ears. We finaly calmed her down. If anyone has any suggestions to what happened if it is seizure related or what? At the moment he is still getting Baytril, an antibiotic which helped him very much. We will get the Baypamun later this week, it has been ordered from Germany (privately, the German partner of the vet clinic asked a former colleague). No, I do not know about bone marrow. He had an Eliza test in Sept. 96 which proved positive both Felv and FIV. The senior vet thinks any more tests will only confuse the issue and stress the patient. (At the time of the test euthanasia was suggested, to stop him from spreading it, but I couldn`t bring myself to agree. He was only 10 months old, we guessed, and very well then, and has been until late April this year). We shall study the instructions carefully, when it arrives. No contact with Rena yet, everything seems under control so far. The beaches here are lovely - I am very near Sagres and the southwestern point of Europe, if anyone of you ever comes this way, please let me know beforehand, so we can get together and you can meet the furry family. Next to him on the landingstood this semi apprehensive looking adult cat, and the first thing that came to my mind was this is how I had imagined Panther to look like all these times that I've been reading your posts. Needless to say, the new arrival was fed, watered, given large slices of turkey breast and invited in. But he didn't want to get that friendly so quickly, and he left through the garden. Since then, he has visited us several times, always late at night, and recently has been showing up regularly every other night. I don't have a name for him yet but my neighbor is thinking about calling him Amigo. He misses Tessie very much and has been really lonely since she's gone. I don't want to stress you in any way but please understand that truly when I first laid eyes on this new arrival a strong image of your Panther came to me. I have the same philosophy about strays. When I bring them in, I get their shots and hope for the best. Jack is a perfect example of what happens to them outside. They get hurt, their eyes shot out, killed by dogs and cars.....No, they have a MUCH better chance inside even with the two positive cats here. So good for you. Why does he have to stay at the vets so long? That will be a huge bill! I will ponder names for you, but I have found if I watch them for a while, a name just comes to me. barb ---------------------------------------- From: Cheri Gardiner [moshiko@netconx.net] Sent: Wednesday, June 10, 1998 4:19 PM To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: New Kitten Just got a new kitten about 1 1/2 yrs old. He was a stray in the neighborhood and I captured him. He's at the vet's for nuetering, shots and FeLV vaccinations. He will come home in two weeks. The vet says he's very funny and used to human touch. Poor little guy had ear mites and had scratched a raw spot behind his ear. I know I'm taking a chance he'll get FeLV since Kitty is postive but he has a better chance inside my house than on the street. Especially since the street beside my house is extremely busy with fast traffic. The vet says he doesn't think it'll be a great chance and agrees it is better than the 2 yr life expectancy of a street cat. He is cute with a lop sided face. The top half of him is black and the bottom half white. Haven't thought of a name yet. Any suggestions? It'll be fun having someone for Chaz to play with. Kitty doesn't really like to play.
