I don't remember who posted it, but I know that liver isn't recommended more than once a week (I can't remember why). Tuna only infrequently, and no pork. Chicken, turkey, lamb or beef and lightly cooked egg yolks are the best protein sources. You might want to try upping his dose to that. We also switched her from prednisolone/prednisone to an injectable steroid, Depomedrol. It's long-lasting and she only needs the injection once every two weeks. She is much happier now that she doesn't get pills anymore. Also, Rissa-Tai did experience depression as a side effect of the Interferon when we had her on 1 cc daily. She had just about the same symptoms you describe. We switched to 1 cc every third day (one day on, two days off) and she is doing much better, and the depression lifted. Changing to this regimen made a world of difference in her attitude. Depression is a normal side effect of the Interferon, and definately one to watch out for. She also gets DMG, 50 mg per day, 1/2 dose in am and then in pm. Is Howling Kitty also on Immunoregulin or Acemannan? (Rissa-Tai is on Immunoregulin) I hope these suggestions help. If you need to travel with your cats long distances, she recommended Bach remedies to help calm them down. They worked great for her grandson too!! All the info is in the archives. From everything I've seen and read, I have a feeling that the vets are taught in school to immunize once a year. It seems that this may not be necessary. Who knows, maybe it's always been done this way and was started long ago for the money. Hopefully, the people in the know (researchers) will check this out and come up with a more cost-effective solution that still protects our furry ones! One thing you (and other folks who have trouble pilling your cats) may want to try is making sure you pill her right before you feed her. When we had to put two of our cats on steroids for their asthma, we pilled them immediately before feeding them. After a few weeks of this, they came to the realization that pill=food, and they struggled a lot less. They still didn't like it, and they wouldn't voluntarily take a pill, but I do believe it made the process a lot easier. If you keep food out for your cats all the time, you may want to give them treats after a successful pilling instead. It may not work with all cats. We tried it with the non-asthmatic cat when she was on chemo, and she just would *not* sit still for a pilling no matter what we tried. We had to resort to a pill gun. -Jennifer ---------------------------------------- From: BILL BEAMISH [judbe@mindspring.com] Sent: Wednesday, June 03, 1998 2:55 AM To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: [Re: Howling Kitty] Jennifer, This is an excellent idea! I do more or less the same thing with a litter of kittens we got in last week with a severe case of ear mites. They struggled like crazy when I cleaned their ears but now I clean their ears right before I feed them in the morning and everything is going much smoother now. I have done a lot of checking into raw liver as a source of iron and what I decided on was no more than 1-2 oz. per week so I give 1 oz in tiny bits every day or every other day. I have concluded (for me) that liver can be very valuable for my cats' health.
