Lai-Tai has gained some weight and become quite the roly- poly furball since we give Rissa-Tai kitten food and other highly nutritious (fattening) stuff. We can't give Rissa-Tai anything without Lai-Tai saying, "Ooh, that looks yummy. Gimme some of that too." I guess you could keep her company while she eats for awhile. This too shall pass for her. Pam -------------------------------------- From: WORKPARK@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 31 May 1998 03:09:50 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Rissa-Tai (and Lai-Tai too) update Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi all, Lai-Tai has once again turned up negative on the IFA test, much to our relief. Since they have been together for almost three years and she has tested negative on the IFA twice now, we figure that she probably will not turn positive (with fingers and paws crossed). Other than the immunizations, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to keep a negative cat that lives with a positive one healthy? Is there anything special we can do? Also, Rissa-Tai's wbc count also improved, it went up to 6600 from 4600. We just got the liquid DMG in the mail right after the blood work done on Friday, so we're going to try a small experiment here, of sorts. The timing was just right to do this, so.... We always check her blood counts every two weeks. We'll keep an eye on how she is doing, and after we get the results from the next test, I'll let the list know if the DMG made a difference, or even if she just maintains, we'll be happy. So far, so good. We'll probably swing her by the vet's this week just for a weight check to see if she had gained any of that weight back. We think over here that Lai-Tai has gained everything that Rissa-Tai has lost by osmosis or something. :) Pam -------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 31 May 1998 10:45:18 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: candle service reminder Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Susan Please add our Rubin to the Bridge he was 12 years old when he passed on And our Sophia that she continues to remain healthy. And I would like to mention another kitty, he is at our vets office, he has lived there since last summer, he tested postive for the virus during a routine checkup and his previous owners wanted to euthanize him. Our vet did not have the heart to do that she said that he is too wonderful of a cat to do that to. His name is Luke, he is 4 year old male that is having some problems now but it its being controlled by medications. We tossed around taking him, our vet even asked us a few times. But several reasons are preventing us, one is the finances we just spent a few thousand on Rubin, but that was not the entire reason. Our Sophia is very tempermental and is just about tolerating the kittens, they try so hard to be friendly but all she does is hiss spit and growl at them. She has got enough stress with them and we certainly do not want to add any more to her. Plus our household being mixed with positve and negatives makes us nervous to bring in another positive. Anyways please add his name he is a special kitty. And if anyone out htere is interseted in taking him home let us know we live in RI Thanks Gina and JoAnn -------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 31 May 1998 10:54:26 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Ninja Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Barb How is Ninja doing? We can certainly relate with the money issue. The last few months with Rubin ended up being on a credit card. The same way we did 4 years ago with him. Just keep reminding yourself that you have had wonderful years with her. Rubin was very bad about his pills also to be honest the last few months we quite giving them to him because it stressed him out to much. 4 years ago Rubin was on Valium for his stress and I belive she gave him that for the seizure he had had too. Good Luck Gina and JoAnn Plus Sophia, Zachary, Patrick and Elizabeth all send their love and good thoughts to your Ninja -------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 31 May 1998 11:05:15 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Rissa-Tai (and Lai-Tai too) Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Pam Glad to hear that Rissa-Tai is doing good, I would not over worry about her weight at this point, that is not too much of a loss. We feed our cats a mixture of Iams and Nutro's and very little wet food, Zachary has lived with us since he was 6 months old, his sister (Sophia) tested postive and he negative and to this day 4 years latter he still test negative and recives his vaccine every year. Their entries will read as follows: Under Bridge List: Rubin 12 years old (March 1986 - May 25, 1998) Gina & JoAnn Under Special Needs List: Sophia (for continued good health) Gina & JoAnn Luke four-year-old male (for continued success of treatment for felv and for a good home) Gina & Joann Please let me know if you'd like to make any changes. I would hesitate to bring another cat in, too, since Sophia is easily stressed, but I am glad to hear you have such an open-minded and kind vet; I hope we can find homes for both Luke and Cheri G.'s Arkansas Tabby. Also I think it is good in many ways that Sophia doesn't mix well. If she avoids the kittens and doesn't groom them etc., the disease can't spread as easily and gives the kittens more chance to build up immunity. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Saliha, I have 16 of the little critters running all over the house. There is always a certain amount hello hissing and talking, but we all settle in pretty good AND this one is still a kitten and would be less threatening. I have never had a problem bringing in a youngster, only a adult sometimes, but Jack settled right in like he owned the place and there has been no trouble at all. Usually, the adoption fee is part spay/neuter fee. It is here anyway. They give you a form for the vet to fill out that he has done the surg and then they pay him out of what you gave them. And they hunt you down if they don't get that form back to! Maybe, if you give him a home, they will have it done before you pick him up. Who knows, maybe Beatrice might just love the little guy! barb -------------------------------------- From: GinaTex@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 31 May 1998 20:16:02 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Re: Rubin, Sophia, & Luke Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net susan The entries sound great thanks I agree with the grooming and the kittens. And they like everyone and if Luke liked them it would definetly increase their risk. RDC ------------------------------------------------------ I am a volunteer a the Humane Society of Rock Island County in Milan, Illinois. We have a feline leukemia positive cat that we hope to place with a person who has another positive cat or would be willing to adopt as an only indoor cat. His is very sweet, rolls over on his back for pets, shows no symptoms, but, has been tested positive twice. He is a 6 month old black and white medium haired beauty. I hope with all my heart we can find a home for him.
