Friday May 29, 1998 Part 2 16 Messages ====================================== From: "James G. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello everyone, Thank you all so much for your support- not only for me, but for each other (and all the kitties out there). I am so overjoyed that these projects have turned out to be so beneficial for so many- and you all have each other to thank for that. Though it has already been said, I want to reiterate that you are ALL very special people with a special compassion for our feline friends, and, for that, you are ALL to be commended. The fact that you have all pulled together to buy this computer for me says alot about the character and philanthropy (and whatever the word would be for "love of felines") of the members of this list. There is still much work to be done, and now I will have the tools to do that work more efficiently. Again, thank you all for your warm thoughts, compassion, and continued contributions to the information pool on this list. Words can not really express the gratitude I feel right now. Take care, and I wish you all the very best! In loving memory of Vyvyan: March 20, 1988 - August 15, 1997 James G. The list, web page, the constant search for bigger and better things to help our furbabies live longer and healthier lives. Vyvyan must be very proud of her daddy right now. barb -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 29 May 1998 17:30:30 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: Angela Holderby Subject: Re: Lefty Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net She said there was no 'sediment' in the urine. She had seemed concerned at first, but said although his bladder felt huge, it did not feel tight. After he peed all over the whole back of their office, she said that she wasn not at all concerned about it and that he just 'held' it for some reason. (He hates going to the vet and I think he saved it up to shoot them!!!!!) Well, it has been several hours now and he is back to his normal temperature and he seems 'perkier', although he is still pouting over the trip to the vet. I am going to continue with the Clavamox drops and increase his Amtrotose and see if that helps. I guess I just panicked, but I am worried because the vets have both told me that if Lefty isn't producing his own red cells that once the donor cells die, he will go downhill very quickly and there won't be much I can do. That really has me holding my breath and 'freaking' at the first sign anything is wrong. Like living with a ticking timebomb-except much cuter. Thank all of you who have written with words of support. It especially touches me that those of you who so recently lost kitties still care enough to write and offer advice and encouragement to us. This list is so full of special people!!! Thanks so much for the good vibes--they seem to be working. Is this donations to purchase a computer for an animal shelter? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Jenn, I can only speak for myself, but I spend a great deal of my time clueless. We, the people on the list, have pooled our money, and purchased a new computer system for our fearless leader, our Capt. Kirk, since his was falling apart and ready for the Smithsonian. barb -------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: com-puter Date sent: Fri, 29 May 1998 18:01:12 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hey Soldier, How's about an outpouring of gratitude for you too ? I think Barb S. had suggested it. They also want to take a urine sample because of her peeing outside of her box. Unfortunately, I am still paying for her last visit. I am going to see how she does this weekend and then maybe take her in this week or next weekend (my mom is coming to visit that weekend). Sometimes I get angry because I don't have the money to do things for her. But I just keep reminding myself that the years she has had with me have been her best; full of love and brushing and lots of purring and playing. I am continually thankful that she is with me now; I can't see my ex-boyfriend being able to handle any of her illness -- she was part of the settlement - he left, she stayed, I won!! :):) Well, I am going to head home to the little fur-baby now and see if she'll keep her prednisone down this time (sometimes I don't aim quite right with the pill shooter and she spits it out and drools - it's quite bitter - and gets VERY irritated w/me). Angela, I'll keep the good vibes heading your way!! Lefty knows he has a good meowmie. I won't just automatically add a kitty w/out first receiving permission (because of possible conflicts of beliefs, etc.) Both Nancy and Jennifer have asked for a more inclusive ceremony and I know others would be more comfortable w/ one .... I certainly don't want to leave anybody out....Anybody have any ideas? Let me know.... To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Lefty Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Barb: I have two other cats besides Howling Kitty. They're names are Squeaky and Witty. They are both negative and very healthy. These are my cat friends and are precious to me. It is so hard to know that this disease could wipe out my three best little companions and confidants that have been with me for the last seven years!! I am now trying to limit the damage in my household. It breaks my heart. I am determined to fight this fight with Howling Kitty, Squeaky, and Witty until there is no fight left. This disease may win most of the battles but we stubborn humans can try to win the war for our babies. Much love to all of you. Arlene and Howling Kitty -------------------------------------- From: "zimmerman" To: Subject: plugged cats Date: Fri, 29 May 1998 23:42:46 -0400 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hey all, Any cat can get "plugged" but the symptoms are usually worse in males. If a cat is obstructed (can't pee) it's an emergency, they need to be catheterized & probably put on antibiotics. It recently happened to my cat & the catheter was left in 3 days. My vet said they used to manualy empty the bladder but found that just letting them drip was better. To help prevent recurrence they're put on a low magnesium diet or given urine acidifiers (like Methigel). Lefty must not have had this problem because the vet would have found pastelike or gritty material, but any bladder problem may be helped by drinking more water. Using ceramic pottery type bowls & having water in several locations may encourage your cats to drink more. Sounds like Lefty can be a real "pistol", so to speak.:) Beth -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 29 May 1998 21:48:31 -0700 From: Robert Frank Organization: A.R.F., Inc.
