Friday May 29, 1998 Part 1 20 Messages ====================================== Date sent: Fri, 29 May 1998 10:04:23 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: Angela Holderby Subject: Lefty Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Just wanted to throw this out and see if anybody has any comments or suggestions. I noticed the last couple of days that Left just wasn't looking good. He was still grooming, but his fur wasn't as sleek as usual. He has been sleeping on the basement floor a lot and even though he still wrestles and plays with Poncho and eats normally, he just didn't seem "right". So, when I took him to the vet today for his Immunoregulin injection, I told her he felt warm and asked her to take his temp. It was 104.5 and she said his bladder was HUGE. She said it wasn't hard, but just huge. This worried me since anything that is in his body comes out some opening as soon as we get into the car--EVERY TIME. But, today we actually had a calm clean ride there. She relieved the urine and did a culture and it was fine. She said he peed a river when she got him in the back and that he seemed fine. She gave him a shot of Dipyrone to relieve the fever and sent us home with Clavamox Drops (2 x per day). I am so worried because I fear he has lived on the donor blood for the past 5 weeks and now he will go downhill again. I was so hopeful (and I am still trying to be), but it is so depressing. He is so young, it is just so darn unfair. I drive past these people with their barns full of cats that live on mice and snakes and they are fine, but my precious babies are dying and I can't do anything about it. Makes me want to scream. Okay folks, I'll have my cheese cake now, please. Hanging in there, but not having a good day. Angela. We are only fighting FeLV - They have to fight cars, dogs, rabies, worms, etc. Farmers usually have alot of cats because they don't bother neutering them - and the cats DO get FIV and FeLV because they are fighting over other cats - hormones, you know. It makes a good picture - driving by and seeing all the healthy looking ones out in the sunshine, but they have more than their share of problems - at least our kitties know we are theirs and that we love them dearly. I'm sending you and Lefty LOTS of good vibes to help him bounce back again. Clavamox should be given on an empty stomach. And I see no reason for you to be pushing the panic button yet, so inhale, exhale..... This day, not 30 minutes ago, I placed an order for the following: 233 Mhz System with 21" monitor to be delivered to our esteemed host by FedEX within the next 10 days. My thanks to all who have contributed. Your generosity is exceeded only by your love and care for your little ones. With this much care and concern, how is it possible that some form of cure will not be found. A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. My special thanks to Steve, Kathy G. and Barb S. for their guidance and special assistance in making this a reality. Give yourselves a great big pat on the back. The journey is continuing. Our Tuffy, a male neutered, suffered this very thing and almost died as a result. It's common for neutered males as they grow older to develope this problem. Tuffy had to be cauterized?? Is that the right term, Barb. Watch this especially close as Barb says. Make sure your little one is urinating properly and if not, get him to the vet immediately. I had planned to have it done until he got so sick and then was diagnosed with felv. Then, I figured he was already having problems so why do that to him, too. As yet it hasn't been a problem. If he start spraying, I may consider it, but I hate to do that with his system already compromised. Neutered male cats sometimes develop urinary tract problems and the poor things get clogged up with sand like stuff. If his bladder was full, "huge" I bet he felt a whole lot better after she got the urine out. I would keep an eye on him and make sure he goes to the box to pee. If the urine gets backed up in the bladder, it will cause a kidney infection. barb -------------------------------------- From: Boonedagel@aol.com Date sent: Fri, 29 May 1998 17:18:14 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Stuff Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Amen, Steve. Every once in awhile, Rissa-Tai will seem a little constipated and her fur won't look so great for a day or two, then she does a monster poop and turns around and does just fine. :) Hang in there, ok? In addition to the Interferon and Immunoregulin, are you giving him Pet-Tinic and Liquid DMG? Or anything else? I always had all my cats innoculated with all the shots (FeLv, Rabies, Distemper)etc. You know the drill. Yet now my Howling Kitty is going to die. It is hard to adjust to that fact and I'm still not sure I accept it. I hate it. I hate losing my best friend. I hate irresponsible people who do not take care of their cats. So there. See! You are not alone. Just take care and know we are all thinking of you and your little furbaby. I brought the disease into my house, before I even knew the WAS a FeLV disease and my cats WEREN'T vaccinated. See how stupid I was?? It took me a long to come to grips with the plain fact that I couldn't undo what I did, all I could do was try to limit the damage. barb -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 29 May 1998 15:03:50 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A.
