Hope I don't bore folks too much with the specifics but Jim asked for them, and I did want everyone to know again what a wonderful thing you all made possible. The $1500 that Larry reports was contributed buys an awful lot. Basically Jim just needs to decide whether to buy a Pentium system with a high performance monitor, or a state-of-the-art Pentium II rocketship but keep the current monitor. First, the Pentium. Cost, $1,555 with shipping. I had them upgrade the monitor back since we raised more money. Viewsonic 19" monitor (the best and fastest or close to it), 32 MB EDO RAM, TX Motherboard with 512K cache, 4PCI/3ISA slots, 4 72 pin SIMM and 2 168 DIMM slots, Pentium 200MMX CPU, 3.2GB Quantum hard drive, 24X CD, 2MB ATI video, Kflex 56K modem, ABS wavetable sound, speakers, mouse and pad, keyboard, Windows 95 SR2, Lotus Smart Suite, Grolier's Encyclopedia, 19" . 3 years parts and labor warranty, from ABS Electronics. For a premium motherboard, Jim kicks in another $50. Unfortunately, I could not get unbundled (no monitor, custom configured) Pentium II prices today from ABS. However, this is the kind of system $1500 will buy. Pentium II 400 with BX/LX chipset and AGP support (accelerated graphics) and 4 168 pin DIMM slots (I believe), ATI 8MB AGP video, 64MB SDRAM (Jim, two 32 meggers), 8GB drive, 32X CD, Kflex 56K modem, ABS wavetable sound, speakers, mouse and pad, keyboard, Windows 95 SR2, Lotus Smart Suite, Grolier's Encyclopedia, 19", 3 years parts and labor. That's the closest I can get right now. One thing Ed Williams (at petloss.com) does is really neat. He has a pet loss chatroom going at that time, and he does the ceremony in the chatroom. It's nice because then you actually know people are reading along w/ you, some lighting candles, etc. I feel more connected to all these wonderful people who *know* how important our babies are.
