Can you SPRAY him with cool water ? Cooler compresses to his neck and abdominal area Set a fan nearby, it can help speed cooling by evaporation Massage his skin, flex and extend his legs gently to help circulation I'm leaving for work now, I'll be thinking about you tonight. Any special reason why your Vet's not suggesting a low dose of ASA ? best luck to you both.. .marilyn. -------------------------------------- From: "Lynn or Josiah Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Re: Panther Date sent: Sat, 16 May 1998 17:14:47 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, I know you're not suppose to give aspirin too much but wouldn't it help in your situation? Just a little to help bring down the fever? .............Lynn(Stinker) -------------------------------------- From: meowmama@bellsouth.net Date sent: Sat, 16 May 1998 20:16:07 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Panther Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, My furries and I are sending lots and lots of vibes for Panther! If you can check with your vet first, I would. In a pinch, tho, a very small dose, like break one into about 8 pieces and just give one little piece. Or half a baby aspirin. Keep up to cool cloths to his tummy, pits and as marilyn suggested his neck. Try to get some cool water down his throat to if you can. He can dehydrate with a temp like that. Use a dropper or syringe, anything you have. I'll be on line until around 10:30 or so, EST. good luck, barb. ps, NO tylenal at all, that is worse than the aspirin. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 16 May 1998 20:08:23 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. First off, I cannot thank you enough for all your help--I don't know how to extend my appreciation. My husband and I are on the counch with Panny, constantly changing threee washclothes. The couch is wet and so are we. My poor hubby has worked 60 hrs. this week including today so I'll have to do the best I can tonight with our sweet cat. So far the fever is unrelenting. Marilyn mentioned a little ASA but left for work. Do you know what ASA is? Anything you can suggest is appreciated, Barb. Talk to you later. ASA is nurse talk to aspirin. Sometimes we forget that not everybody knows some of these terms. It's actually short for: acetylsalicylic acid, which is the technical name for aspirin. barb -------------------------------------- From: katseven@pcsia.com Date sent: Sat, 16 May 1998 20:57:06 -0600 Subject: Re: Panther To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, I feel so horrible. Still 105+. We have been givening him water, echinachea, & broth. He peed so I think he's getting enough liquids. I'll keep you posted. Nighttime is always the worse for any sickness for some reason, temperatures always seem to go higher then. Panther is so fortunate to have so many loving people that are knowledgeable and able to help out with suggestions. Sorry I can't help with suggestions, but I'm sending loving thoughts your way. Actually we got him 12 years ago this August and he was an adult then so he's probably closer to 13 or 14 now. His name is Abby, he's all white and deaf and he is a polydactyl. He tested positive right from the start. About 3 years after we got him the vet recommended testing him again because he was so healthy. We did and he was still positive. Now I retest him about every 2 years and he's still coming up positive but this cat has never been sick a day in his life! He was a wild street cat when we got him and he was beat up and skinny but after about 6 months here his weight went up to 15 pounds and it has stayed that way all through the years we've had him. He grooms himself meticulously - his coat is pure white and he's long haired. He is just beautiful! I feel so lucky he is symptom free! The vet tells me he must be the very rare cat who shows positive on the test but remains symptom free all of his normal life span. Lots of positive cats have come into our home since Abby and even when one is sick with respiratory, Abby never comes down with it. His immune system must be super strong because usually a respiratory infection goes through a multi-cat household like wildfire. I wish you the best with Rubin, and Sophia, too! I hope she is like Abby! That would be wonderful. But I really wish we'd have a cure for this terrible disease TODAY!! That would be the absolutely best thing that could happen! Take care. That would be so helpful to everyone with felv kitties and other immune system problem cats. Maybe you haven't planted flowers yet, but you sure planted much love to so many people on this list with your knowledge and advice. That's as good as flowers and probably better. Have you had any luck locating a cat that had documented felv and was cured? Every once in a while I think about what you said about the doctor in Africa (was it?) that injected the cured patients serum into a sick patient and he recovered. This idea seems to have much merit to it. Where there are so many different kinds of felv known, do you think that would make a difference? Just wondering and hoping for cheesecake.
