Yes, if Qetta and Honey are indeed negative there is no question that they should receive their yearly vaccinations. My concern was whether to vaccinate them unknowing if they have contacted the virus since being together with Gretchen, the positive kitty. My vet said that it hasn't been three months yet and even if they tested negative at this point, it doesn't mean that they are not positive, they may not be showing the virus in their systems yet. He suggested that they be vaccinated regardless, so the appointment is already set up. How are all your kitty's? My husband is in the process of making some chicken wire screens as yours did for added protection during the summertime. Thanks again for that suggestion, it's working out great. They are already together with Gretchen who is positive. I had kept them apart from October to April and then decided to put them together as it was so very difficult keeping them separated. With hope in my heart that the vaccinations the cats already had had in the past would protect them from contacting felv from Gretchen, I let Gretchen out to play with them. It was not an easy decision, as you can imagine. Thanks for your concern and advice. It was the %L/M#--I thought my vet said the lymph module? Anyways, she explained it to me but it of course, was in Greek. Another thing: we always surmised it was FELV that Jake and Panther had because of 3 other cats dying from it. I did not have them tested at the time because of this assumption and I didn't want to spend the money when it could be used for treatment. Today I had Panther tested. He's negative for FELV but positive for FIV. I will get Jake tested next week. AS far as I'm concerned, they're both just as bad and very similar in many ways--it just depends on luck as far as how sick a cat gets or how long he lives. I think we can try to help and sometimes make a difference, but sometimes it's just rotten luck. They are similar in that they both attack the immune system, but it is quite possible that your cat will stay in the human equivient of HIV for his entire life and never convert to "full blown AIDS" . So out of the three, FIV is the best one, if there is such a thing. I'm not quite sure what you are refering to with the 70% lymph system....Unless they are refering to immature WBC's or a certain type of WBC. There are several and depending on which one is high is indicative of what type of infection is going on. Or whether it is now high after a different WBC was high. It can be confusing, I know. Sometimes you have to have a series of tests to compare and see which cells were high when. I am still hoping to get a fact page on the immune system but with summer bearing down, time has been spent, (not to happily either) on doing combat with my yard. I am so sick of looking at my lawnmower, I can't tell you. Don't have a single flower in yet either! oh well.....barb -------------------------------------- From: "Steve Lackow" To: Subject: Re: Weekly Status Report Date sent: Fri, 15 May 1998 14:20:16 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Just so everyone knows where we're at, computer prices are still free-falling and we'll be waiting until around Memorial Day for the purchase. At that time, we'll see if we can afford the big monitor or not, and Jim will make the call as to what he would like to do. Then, I'll set up the deal, Larry will execute it, and Jim will have his new computer around June 15! Another $200 would put us over the top, but I believe we're all tapped out. But if anyone new who has not contributed would like to, every little bit makes a difference, even $5, so tell Larry at army@geneseo.net and he'll tell you where to send the bucks. -- Steve -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 15 May 1998 17:09:51 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. Just make sure the vet doesn't discontinue the pred suddenly (say, if kitty gets a cold). It takes me 3 days to mow ours although my husband does it in a day. It's a half acre, all downhill. I would love to see a fact sheet on the immune system. I'm sure it's not as confusing when it's explained in layman's terms. Nancy -------------------------------------- END
