She goes where she wants, when she wants. All we've done is leave the furniture in the same place as well as the food dishes, litter boxes, and water dishes. She has no trouble going up and down stairs either. We have 12 other cats so a multi-cat home is no problem for a blind one! Our blind Kaelyn will vouch for this. She also plays just like the others. Just takes her a little time to find the toys after she's batted them around. That's why she has noisy toys; she finds them easier that way. she's also very loving and VERY spoiled. I think the Pred, the Interferon, & the Ambrotose would work very well together. If you can, I think Interferon is real important for Jade to take. It has helped my cats quite a bit. If it were me and my cat was blind but otherwise in no pain, I would opt to let her go on. From what i understand non-human animals adapt quite well. They don't get "caught up" in all the psychological stuff we humans do/would if we went blind. I have heard that it is okay to be on the Immunoregulin shots with Prednisone if the Predn is being given to help increase the red blood cells in severe anemia. My Jake has been on Prednisone for 6 months along with the Immunoregulin. His RBCs have improved dramatically--from 11 to 45. He started on 5 mg. every day and has been weaned to 2.5 mg. every 4 days. We hope to eventually get him off. I figure 2.5 mg. every 5 days is equivalent to me at 110pounds taking about 7=8 mg. per day, which is not enough to suppress immunity. Sometimes you just have to weigh the pros and cons. Incidentally, welcome to the list! Nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Thu, 14 May 1998 23:17:01 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. The last few days he seems quite depressed and is not eating well. His stitches are still in--it will be 12 days tomorrow. The wound is not healing very fast and it is quite swollen around it. I bathe it alternately with peroxide and calendula. I had the vet look at it 2 days ago and she said it was a reaction and not to be concerned, but that was prior to his lack of appetite and depression. Tomorrow I'm making the trip back into town (Panther HATES riding in the car) to have her look at it again and discuss his symptoms. I would also like her to start the Immunoregulin. I don't think it can hurt at this point and may even help. Any suggestions? But Jade has Lymphosarcoma as well as the leukemia and Uveitis. I was told immunoregulin shouldn't be given to the cat if he has Lymphosarcoma. But I'll make sure. Talk to you later. He just looked like he felt sick. I had to give him his Pred and his Combo drops. When I was about to open his mouth for the pill I noticed a foamy-saliva around the outside of his lips. I know he's going to have some bad days, but that foamy-saliva scared me. Does anyone know why Jade's doing that? Thanks. I rushed him to the vet where he got a shot of something (I was a teenager and didn't bother asking what) and then he was fine. He was not sick at the time--just an allergic reaction. I don't have much experience with Felv+, but in the time I have been on the list, I haven't seen this symptom mentioned. Hopefully, someone with more experience will post soon. The vet should be able to tell you which meds are bitter. Of course, if there is a lot of foam, that could indicate somehting more serious, like poisoning. I'd call the vet to discuss this. (It looks like the drool of a St. Bernard - kind of long and slimy.) If it's just foamy, it could be a reaction to something that Jade licked - especially if it was alcohol based. It's been a sad time, and I really appreciate how supportive everyone has been. I guess we all know how very fragile these little guys are, and that makes those of us who love them so much a bit fragile also. But if we stick together, we can do this! I know there is research going on, and someday a cure will be found. Medical science is making wonderful progress in so many fields, including virology, and our day will come. I saved all the notes and will try to answer each of you next week. Thanks, again. jean -------------------------------------- From: macat@webtv.net (belinda sauro) Date sent: Fri, 15 May 1998 06:40:19 -0700 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: FeLV test Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, Angela said it perfectly, I'm very HAPPY for you and Chaz! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I can't believe I did this, but I left out Poncho & Lefty's Interferon yesterday. I just got busy. (I was giving all kinds of stuff to the cats and, in addition, ear drops for one of my sons and antibiotics for my daughter and other son--I need a pharmacology degree to do this!) I left it out all day. I called the vet who gave it to me and they said it wasn't a problem as long as the house wasn't too hot. Well, in an attempt to save on air-conditioning, I opened the windows and it was about 85 degrees in here. They said the best thing to do would be to toss it and get more. The local vet doesn't even know where she is going to get it so I am going to have to make the 1 1/2 hour drive to get more. Man, that was SO STUPID! I am not usually an air-head (that little gender mistake with Poncho aside!). Fortunately, I had just given them their last dose for 7 days and I can arrange to go get more next week. It is hard enough explaining necessary trips for the cats to my hubby and now I have to explain this one...DUH! I was wondering if any of you knew exactly how long it can go without refrigeration before it is considered 'bad'? I know 8 hours was too long, but what if it had just been a few hours? I have little experience with this so I was wondering what some of your opinions are. Thanks, Angela. (and Poncho & Lefty) -------------------------------------- From: "James G. Remember that questions such as "where to get it" can be answered by visiting the FeLV project web pages. Your vet can order pre-mixed Interferon from: Island Pharmacy Services 1707 Highway 51 N. Woodruff, Wisconsin 54568 1-800-328-7060 I believe that they even have overnight service, if necessary. Angela, you may want to call them and ask about how long it can be left out before it goes bad. Being such a minute amount in solution, I'd bet that it doesn't take long. I took Panther to the vet today and he is sick. He has a fever of 104, his Hemo is down from 39 to 29 and his grans (?) is 70%. She put him on Baytril and gave him an anti-inflammatory shot. He's lost almost 1/2# in 3 days. I am worried but bound and determined to get him better again. Hopefully by Monday he'll be better and I can start him on Immunoregulin shots. Isn't there ANYONE out there that is bound and determined to find a cure for this HORRENDOUS disease? Thanks for all your help, Barb. The pet-tinnic seems to have worked wonders for him. He has his listless days of absolutely no activity and then he has days like yesterday where he is playful all the time. We are trying to set up a long term dosing schedule for the interferon. He has been on it for a month now-1 cc daily. I think this causes some depression in him. The prenizone is also being re-evaluated for dosage. All in all things could be much worse. I'm thrilled to still have him with me!
