Wednesday May 13, 1998 Part 1 20 Messages ====================================== From: "zimmerman" To: Subject: Hey, I'm new Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 03:07:19 -0400 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hey, I'm new to the list & have 2 felv+ cats. KIX is persistant but hasn't had any symptoms. JACKSON got an URI in Dec. & was only treated with antibiotics until March when I found the treatments page. JACKSON's had 1/2 cc ImmunoRegulin IV twice a week for 2 weeks, once a week for 3 weeks, & I'm going to continue it monthly. Last week he started Interferon, 1 cc 7 days on & off & 1 drop daily alternating nostrils. The only side effect I've noticed was chills after his 4th Immuno. shot. His symptoms (sneezing, runny nose & eyes) are almost gone. I also give him 1 cc Pet-Tinic twice a day, anti-oxidants (Vit. A Beta Carotene - 5000 I.U., Vit. E - 50 I.U., Vit. C Sodium Ascorbate - 100 mg) daily, & Vetri-Liquid DMG - 70 mg daily. KIX gets the anti-oxidants, DMG, & 1 Pet-Tab daily. I also put Prozyme on their food & "try" to brush their teeth twice a week. They get alot of love & prayers, too. I've been reading the list & now that I'm on it I hope to learn more & maybe help someone else who loves cats. Bye for now, Beth -------------------------------------- From: WORKPARK Date sent: Wed, 13 May 1998 03:35:56 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Hey, I'm new Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Beth, Welcome to the list! I'm Rissa-Tai's mom. You'll find lots of info and support here. After reading your post, it sounds like you're doing everything that you can. Where are you located, as it would be of interest since you obviously have a great vet. Would they be agreeable to being put on the listing of vets that treat felv+ cats? Also, if you have any questions, the archives are a great place to start! This is my new Isp. Thanks for the information. I was wondering if you know anything about the Uveitis. Can it spread to his good eye? Thanks again. I get into the archive list, click onto a date, it says "document done" but the screen is just white, no writing. Just when I begin to feel familiar using the computer, something like this happens and I feel like throwing it out the window. Frustration! I have never been able to access archives, is it different than opening attachments? I usually cannot open up a document attached in an e-mail, either. Talk about computer illiterate! That's me! According to "The Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" by D.G. Carlson and J. M. Giffin, page 140, These conditions include, "felv, fipv, feline immunodefieciency syndrome toxoplasmosis, systemic fungus infections, and the larvae of roundworms and heartworms. Uveitis may also be caused by penetrating eye injuries, bloodborne bacterial infections and eye tumors..." My understanding is that whether Uveitis can spread to the other eye depends on what's causing it. Anyone else? She wouldn't eat or drink and wouldn't even get up to walk around. After 2 days of this, I called my vet and he said to give it one more day. By the third day, she started to come around. Also, every year when I have the vaccine given to my one cat, Lucky, who is supposedly naturally immune to Felv, she also gets sick and is down for about 2 days. I don't know about giving the vaccine to positive cats. I wouldn't, but just my opinion. Judy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 13 May 1998 08:40:30 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. In my research on the net and in talking with two homeopathic vets, all recommendations are to TEST any cat before giving the FeLV vaccine, and NOT to give the vaccine to a positive cat, as the vaccine itself is very immunosuppressive. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 13 May 1998 11:33:58 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. Needless to say, I am ECSTATIC!!!!!! I haven't talked with the vet yet so I don't what's going on or if they might want to do something else or just what the tumor was. She's going to call me back this afternoon. I'm thinking of putting him throught the Immunoregulin shots. His bloodwork had been so good that I didn't and the vet concurred that it would not be necessary. But he's been more tired and wore out than Jake whose bloodwork was very bad at first and who's improved drastically since the immunoregulin. What do you all think? This news blows me away! Also, I am in the process of adding a "how to search the archives" info sheet to our FeLV FAQ sheet. Hopefully, this will help folks better take advantage of this invaluable resource. Mine prefers not to, but prob would if I insisted. The whole idea for a vaccine is to program the bodies immune system to be on the look out for a certain invader. Since the cats have already been invaded, it does seem a little pointless, but some vets swear by it. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Wed, 13 May 1998 18:38:55 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Panther Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, The immune system includes the lymph nodes. The swelling could have been set off by almost anything. In human, when you have a check up, they always check the ones on your neck. Your tonsils are a part of that system so they are, in some instances, the first line of defense, which is why they no longer take them out without reason. As to the ImmunoRegulin, I would continue with it if Panther were mine. The best defense is a good offense. barb -------------------------------------- END
