All I can do is give them all the love I possibly can and make sure that the quality of their lives stays as good as possible for as long as possible. It's not been an easy one, but in a way, it's been easier than some of the weeks before. I guess accepting the inevitable brings a certain peace. We've settled down into a routine that no longer involves battles over drug and temperature taking and everyone is much more calm now. Even the other cats are calmer and less likely to hiss or slap. Arnie still sleeps a lot, but purrs when petted. He has become slightly irritable in the past few days, the vet thinks the end is nearing, that he is becoming uncomfortable. We're taking it one day at a time. Somehow I'd like it if he could make it thru the weekend, Mothers day and all, but if he's obviously uncomfortable tonight, I'll do what is right for him. Thanks again for all your support. jean Jean Wells wellsj@winthrop.edu Rock Hill, SC maryjean77@hotmail.com http://www.shack.org/wellsj/mostcats.htm I want cheesecake and I want it NOW! -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 8 May 1998 07:51:44 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. I want to comfort you in some way, to help you through this. You have such a strong warrior spirit--this is how you have saved so many kits. I know you are staying busy right now in the midst of this battle, but I want you to know that if you need to talk I will listen. He was tired and slept a lot afterwards, but didn't appear to be in pain. He also received Acemannan treatments for fibrosarcoma (tumors in groin and on his head). He received these injections (in tumors and in stomach) once a week. These did not seem to make him feel bad either. Take heart, Arlene. My mother also had a horrible experience w/ chemo and so I was deathly afraid of this kind of treatment, but it worked (13 years and no recurrence of breast cancer which had metastasized to her lymph nodes!). And Ernie did not suffer at all compared to what she went through. He seemed at most to have a mild case of the flu. Tell your vet your concerns. What Pam says about the chemo makes good sense. I'll be thinking of you. Apparently the test came out in February '98, and there was some discussion in the group on the test then. As it isn't appropriate to re-post other groups' messages on the list, please e-mail me privately, so I can send these items to you--if you like. I haven't seen anything on the 'net about this current test yet. Please know I'm thinking of you and Arnie and also Sunny and the three girls you still have. Poncho was in heat at the time of the surgery. That was what made me check and find that she was female...DUH!...But, since the second day after her surgery, she is back to her playful self. It almost seems that she is still acting a little bit like she is in heat. She rolls on the floor in front of Lefty and growls when he climbs on top of her, but doesn't try to run. Is this normal? She could just be playing--she is really playful normally. Lefty shows a slight interest, but only a couple of times has he tried to breed her. I am afraid to risk his health by having him neutered at this point. He is doing so well, I hate to mess with his health right now for that. It has been 2 weeks since the transfusion and he has gone from 5lb. 7 oz. to between 9 and 10 lbs. has tons of energy and doesn't even mind the medication I give him. He is acting completely normal again. Should I be concerned about either of their actions? I have never had a cat spayed while they were in heat so I was wondering if it may take awhile for all of the signs of mating behavior to go away. You all must think I am an idiot, but I really don't know much about breeding cats. All of mine have been spayed or neutered before I got them or shortly thereafter so I am not real familiar with this behavior. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
