She'll take a few days to get back to her old self again, but she'll be happier. Great to hear that Lefty is doing so well also! He's got two litter boxes all to himself, and he uses both of them, but for some reason he still goes on the floor sometimes. With your kitty, it could possibly be an infection, but is it large amounts of urine, or just tiny bits? When male cats get a urinary tract infection, they tend to get blocked and not able to go at all--could turn into a very expensive vet bill. The females are the ones that go around the house because they can't get to the box in time like someone else mentioned. I would have him checked out at the vet to make sure. But it could turn out to be a behavioral thing. Definitely try different litter, or a different litter box in a different place and stuff like that. One of the veterinary journals that the doctor gets at work just had a big article on this problem in the latest issue. I'm going to try to get my hands on it, and I'll let you know if I learn anything from it. I may even be able to make copies of it and fax them to you if you have access to a fax machine. I'll try to remember to ask him about it tomorrow. Good luck!! These drugs are meant to only be a temporary "fix" for the symptoms of FeLV (anemia, loss of appetite, etc.). These drugs do not address the central issue- FeLV itself. Also, these drugs DO create problems if used in the long-term. One can only wonder why your vet is "not impressed with Immunoregulin and other treatments" if s/he relies so heavily on steroid therapy- as I said, steroids do NOTHING to address the viral infection. Since one of your cats had lymphoma, Immunoregulin will not work for him/her. However, Acemannan has shown some promise in fighting FeLV and related cancers. Also, interferon is perhaps one of our best weapons in keeping up a cat's immune system integrity. There are also holistic approaches that folks have had success with, but I'll let them address those areas. I hope that you'll consider some of these other possibilities to help reinforce your cats' immunities- if your vet refuses to help you use them, find another vet! I know I'm coming down kinda hard on your vet, but the evidence we've been gathering here on (and off) the list suggests that these treatments DO help cats live a longer, happier life- and they do address the virus itself. Please let me know if you have questions and/or comments about this or other aspects of FeLV- we can't answer them all, but we can certainly try. Take care, and best wishes to you and yours. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net all, Thanks for the nurses day cyber hugs. We had a little feast at work this morning for it and a dinner next week. Second, my sympathies to those who have lost their babies. I haven't had time to read all the mail, but I know Arnie is very ill and BJ has gone to the bridge. We all know how you feel. We do the best we can but sometimes, it's just not enough. In the end, nature wins out. The FIP...I would not trust any test for this disease. Look for symptoms. The bloated belly, or if the dry, wasting. To my knowledge, there are tests that aid in the diagnosis, but NONE that are definative. Now to Leia. She came home today. That's why I'm so late getting on. I didn't get home until almost 8pm. She looks wonderful. Half bald, but really looks great. The vets were all pleased with how well she did. The techs all loved her and Larry had to pry her out their hands to bring her home. The next 20 days will tell the tale they say. But for the next 5 days, no climbing, playing or roughhousing with the other cats so she will be in my big dog cage Larry borrowed to put her in when he's not there. He put her there to run and get some groceries and she dumped the food, the litter and in general expressed her displeasure with being in there. The large "thrill" you could feel doesn't seem so noticable now and I have high hopes she will come thru fine. What a long day. Over two hours in rush hour traffic to get home but she weathered the ride just fine. That's about it. to tired to deal with all the mail today. But I promise to get to it tomorrow. barb -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 06 May 1998 22:37:30 -0700 From: Robert Frank Organization: A.R.F., Inc.
