Both he and you have fought so hard. You are doing the right thing by letting him enjoy the time he has left with you. Love him, and give him a hug for me, if you would. You've been a good meowmie. The Oncologist told me (if I remember correctly) that if it is going to work, it will begin to immediately. I was never told about achiness from my vet but heard about it being a symptom later on. Rissa-Tai did not experience any problems with balance or wobbliness. I'm very sorry to hear about Kettainya (what a pretty name), and I also hold onto hope. We will be thinking of you over here in AZ with paws and fingers crossed. She'll be her old self in a couple of days, I'm sure. It would be wonderful if she tests negative, wouldn't it? And Lefty, too! I'm happy he's so much better, too. Best wishes. I don't know how your vet diagnosed FIP. My vet told me the only sure diagnosis for FIP is through an autopsy. The tests are notoriously inaccurate. My cat Bruce was "diagnosed" with FIP 5 years ago when he was 6 months old. I refused to euthanize him as the vet suggested and now 5 years later he is still here - very healthy and happy. I won't even test for FIP anymore. Why use a test that isn't accurate? If I had listened to my vet at the time Bruce would have lost his life for nothing! FIP is a terrible disease. I hope that isn't what you're dealing with. I just wanted to let you know that the tests for FIP are not that good. When testing again this time, it turned out to be FIP. I found her but she cringed away from me and fled across the street into a neighbor's garden. I have not seen her since. Thank you for your words of encouragement.......I pray that she and the other little one will return..... Try joghurt or curds cream, maybe she likes it. Then, you might try to give her CaloPet (a nutrient paste you can get from the vet, I guess in America is a similiar stuff called NutriCal). Some cooked chicken is also fine food, and usually cats love it - unless you have a gourmet like my Charlie was who preferred it fried. But, cooked chicken of course is much healthier, and if you're lucky, your cat even eats a bit rice slime with it. I know a lady rescuing cats who gets every halfstarved skinny back on the legs with cooked chicken and rice slime, the rice slime made with the water the ckicken was cooked in, and then mixed with a bit CaloPet and vitamins. (Unfortunately, some cats show you clearly where you can put the rice slime. There are those goodies most of them love, like little vitamin hearts and such, and powdering them up and putting them over the rice slime sometimes helps a bit. ) Lastly, try to mix the Eukanuba with water, some nutrient paste or chicken soup (no spices, of course, cook the chicken with nothing but water) until it is pasty, and try powdering some goodies she likes and put it on it. When Kettainya keeps on vomiting and having diarrhoea, force feeding isn't the best idea, and when she licks liquids, she might lick the Eukanuba 'cream' voluntarily when it's liquid enough. Another recipe is baby food (human babies), no idea what an American name is. Down here it's 'Milupa' or 'Alete', just creams that look like already eaten. Brands with 'beef' or 'chicken' together with 'greens' could be mixed with chicken paste and the usual stuff (CaloPet, vitamins etc.) and most cats even like it. By the way, are her teeth okay? And her gums? Maybe she simply has pains when chewing, that would explain why she licks the juice from the catfood but wants nothing that she would have to chew. Hope this helps a bit, Rena (RDC) -------------------------------------- From: katseven@pcsia.com Date sent: Wed, 6 May 1998 05:20:38 -0600 Subject: Re: FIP To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nina, Do you have this FAQ on FIP? http://www.tezcat.com/~ermiller/FIP.shtml It's informative and has a couple of addresses related to the subject. You probably know there is no sure-fire test; the test is only for corona viruses of which there are many, most not fatal. What are the symptoms? I'm hoping your vet is mistaken. I really believe that once they calm down and get their bearings, they'll come home. I had a friend a few years back who had some digging done on her property for water lines--her beloved cat of 6 years disappeared and was gone for FIVE MONTHS. On my friend's birthday, Moto showed up--just fine. I hope it isn't 5 months for you, but I really think they'll come back. You might want to put up posters and alert neighbors just so no one finds them and adopts them. Lawson" To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: FelV early signs question Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I'm new to this list. I have an FelV positive cat (Leo) who has recently started going outside of his litterbox. He is healthy so far in all respects. I remember reading something somewhere that an early warning sign of an FelV positive cat getting sick was going outside the litterbox. As far as I can tell he still urinates in the box. He is not mad at me... he is not spiteful at all. It doesn't seem that he has lost control because he has chosen two specific spots to go. If anyone has any information on this, please let me know. Also, if someone could direct me to the FIV list I'd appreciate it. I adopted Mufasa (a gorgeous long hair tabby) from the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago 15 months ago. I soon found out from my vet that he is FIV positive. Since he requires alot of attention and I'm out alot I started looking for another FIV positive cat to keep him company. I eventually found Leo (another gorgeous long hair tabby---orange however). Turns out that Leo is also FelV. I also was disturbed to find out that my vet had not vaccinated Mufasa for FelV. I had assumed it was part of the standard shots. So I have Mufasa tested (negative) and vaccinated. Both cats almost instantly became friends. I was very surprised that there was almost no hissing and no fighting. Now they play and groom each other. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 06 May 1998 12:02:28 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: Angela Holderby Subject: Re: FelV early signs question Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I hadn't hear that going outside the litterbox was an early felv sign, but I had a cat who did that. She had started shedding soon after and when I took her to the vet he told me that she had a urinary tract infection. The shedding was a result of a slight fever. He said she didn't always have time to get to the litterbox because her urine was so acidic that it had crystals which caused her to have to go frequently. He gave us antibiotics and a gel to regulate the acid in her urine and we never had problems again. She also had a few specific places she would go. I assume she just happened to go there once or twice and went back because of the odor. It was a nightmare, but one that was fairly easily remedied. This may not have a thing to do with your cats, but I would have that ruled out first.
