When I moved, it shook my cats up a great deal. We all moved in with my then fiance who had a very old trailer. The cats were so spooked, they escaped through the screens on the windows. Fortunately, my trailer was moved the very next day one half mile away so we were able to get the cats and move them. Precious and Blackie stayed at Ray's longer though before they showed up so we could catch them. Perhaps if yours are nearby, they will show up when they relax a bit. Hope so. Arnie is just not going to make it. I've watched him fade for about a month now. There has been crisis after crisis, and each time he would pull through, but not make it as far back as the time before. Most recently (on top of the autoimmune hemolytic anemia and the fever of unexplained origin) was a tumor the vet removed from his side. The latest blood work shows that his bone marrow has shut down. And now he's stopped grooming; his mother and sisters hiss at him, even attack him if I don't keep him separate. Yesterday his vet and I had a long talk and agreed that the most humane thing to do would be to stop poking and prodding and let him have the time he has left in peace and love. He's in no pain, he purrs when I pet him, he mostly sleeps except if I pick him up. It really is hard to let go, isn't it. jean Jean Wells wellsj@winthrop.edu Rock Hill, SC maryjean77@hotmail.com http://www.shack.org/wellsj/mostcats.htm I want cheesecake and I want it NOW! -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Tue, 5 May 1998 17:50:04 EDT To: felvtalk@Mailinglist.net Subject: Leia Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net All, All the good thoughts must have gotten thru. She has been on Neupogen injections for about 6 days now. We had a CBC count down last Saturday and it showed that there was no improvement. She is also on Interferon, Pepcid AC for her stomach, liquid vitamins, Orbax (anti-biotic), liquid drops of Echinacea, and appetite stimulants. She went from 7.5 pounds to 4.2. She will only lap up water, milk, and the juice from canned cat food. She will eat Pounce treats and I force feed her Eukanuba recovery food. I am sure that her body is not processing the food she does eat because she vomits & has constant diarrhoea. I was wondering if any of you who have had a cat on Neupogen could tell me if a symptom of this drug may be lack of balance and "wobbly" back legs? I know that Neupogen in humans can cause "bone pain" and I wondered if maybe she is experiencing this. I am the sort of person who hangs on to the last bit of hope, but I believe that she will not make it through this bout. I am afraid that I am hanging on out of selfish reasons at this point. I don't want her to suffer and I don't want to lose her. I know from your postings that many of you have lost your kitties and are sympathetic to the pain and indecision I feel. --Kathleen at robertcwhite@ij.net >^. .^< -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Tue, 5 May 1998 18:45:27 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Kettainya Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Kathleen, I doubt it's the neupogen causing the problem. There is an enzyme who's name escapes me, I hope someone can post it, that is available at most health food stores, that will replace the bacteria lost in the bowel from the antibiotics. Does she really need to be on them? What is she on them for? The weight loss may be attributed to the diarrhea. If you check the archieves there was a wonder receipe for a liver liquid. In fact, I think I still have it and will repost it. You might try that also. Yes, we all know how you feel. I have lost 4, 5 if you count the original carrier and still have 2 that are positive, but so far healthy. This is an ugly, terrible virus and we all wish it would die already, but that is in the future I guess. Until then, we all plod on, doing what we can. Welcome to the group, wish it was on a happier note. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Tue, 5 May 1998 18:47:24 EDT To: felvtalk@Mailinglist.net Subject: Fwd: Liver Shake for cats boundary="part0_894408444_boundary" Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net sorry about the note to my son, but that was the only way I still had it. barb ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Larry, thought you might like this for Leia for after surgery. good to have anyway. mom Date sent: Fri, 1 May 1998 14:08:29 -0400 (EDT) From: Kat To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Liver Shake for cats Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi all, I received this recipe from another list I'm on - haven't had a reason to try it yet (knock on wood) but thought someone out there might be interested. Both Alice and Tessie had " 'wobbly legs" but one vet whom I trusted more than others said that this was due to weight losss which caused weakness in their muscles. If anything, your kitties diarrhea may be from the antibiotic that she's on. That's what antibiotics do as a side effect. Just two weeks before Tessie died, I was finally able to get her on Immunoregulin injections. And after her first shot her bowels became regular again. It's worth thinking about. Just like you, I feel deeply that so long as they're breathing there's hope and miracles can happen. I dont' know anything about Neupogen, but I do know that Pounce treats have tons of preservatives in them. My vet and the pet food specialist recommend either Catty Shack or Bonkers as they are both more nutritious. How long has she been on the Interferon? Is the Pepcid for that? What kind of side effects have you noticed? My Ninja was newly diagnosed as positive and we also believe that there is a brain tumor (most likely meningioma) as well as a heart murmur. So far, none of the vets I have talked to use Acemannan, which I would like to try, and only a couple use the Interferon. We are going in on Saturday to see about treatment possibilities. Ninja is currently on Prednisone for the tumor and is responding well. (Not to the pill-shooter however!!) I definitely understand your fear about being selfish. Ninja's seizures have been accelerating and 10 days ago, she had 5 in one day. It was awful and I was ready to put her down, but I am glad that I didn't. That Monday is when the leukemia was diagnosed and then I found this list while I was doing research on the web and found a wonderful source of hope and information in this group of loving people who live with their fur-babies. Best wishes to you and your fur-baby. But if he can't produce any rbcs on his own, it becomes a pretty easy choice, all right, to just let him be in peace and with love, and put him down when he shows signs of distress. Even Chloe showed signs of making her own rbcs up until the very end -- we would not have tried to give her the last transfusion had this not been so. Poncho had her surgery today. She is offically "barren" now! When I picked her up the vet encouraged me to have her re-tested in about 5 weeks. She said that Poncho seemed so healthy that she thought it was very likely she could test negative. I am going to go back and see what happens. As long as she is symptom free--I am thrilled. Unfortunately, right now she is pretty miserable. She wants to be back to her old self so bad. She tried to climb on my lap but is too weak so I put her on me and she climbed onto the desk and FOUGHT ME to climb onto the back of my puter (her favorite place to nap). I tried to pull her off, but she wouldn't give up so I let her. I don't know HOW she is going to get down. I hope she feels better in the morning. She threw up this evening (I let her eat because she was acting really hungry) so I am going to wait until tomorrow to start her on her antibiotics (a liquid amoxicillin). The vet also thinks I should have Lefty tested again, too. I doubt that he would ever test negative as sick as he was before his transfusion. Do you think that is possible? I can't believe it is the same cat now. It has been less than 2 weeks and he has gained ALL of his weight back, his hair is gleaming black and he has more energy than he ever did! Unbelievable! I just hope it lasts awhile. I never draw a comfortable breath worried that he will relapse at any minute. Thanks again for wishing Poncho good luck with the surgery. After the initial misery passes, I really believe she will be much happier. I heard one time that a cat can make about 100 different sounds. Well, I think we heard every one of them two or three times while she wailed her head off in the basement last night!!!!!! I don't know which was worse, listening to her squall or watching Lefty try to dig a hole in the door to get to her. What an awful night for all of us. She's so drowsy now that I am sure she will sleep tonight--maybe the rest of us can, too.
