Date sent: Mon, 4 May 1998 13:04:35 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, I started the ambrotose about two months ago. I have seen great results with Stinker. He still has his down days but fewer and he now runs and plays, which he seldom did before. I just think the stuff is great! I also use the DMG. I started that about 4 months ago. I am hopeing the best for your kitty, Panther!..................Lynn(Stinker) -------------------------------------- Date sent: Mon, 04 May 1998 17:00:38 -0400 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: Angela Holderby Subject: Re: Ambrotose...... Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Would some of you write to me (privately if it has been discussed to death on the list) and let me know how you use the Ambrotose? I have some ordered and would like to know how each of you who are using it control the dosage. Lefty is completely back to the way he was before he got sick so I don't know if I could tell much of a difference in him. If he feels any better I am afraid he'll jump in my car and drive away to find some party-buddies! I was just wondering how much you are all giving your cats and the different methods you're using. Any info. would be appreciated. Angela. -------------------------------------- From: "Equinox Corp." To: "'felvtalk@MailingList.net'" Subject: RE: Ambrotose...... Thanks to you all, & will update you in detail when I get a brighter outlook on life. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I have latched onto a wonderful vet who seems to be very willing to study any information I give her about this disease. She is young and energetic and enthusiastic about learning new methods of treatment. I gave most of the notebook I had compiled to the last vet (the one who transfused Lefty) so I am currently re-compiling information. I plan to print out the information on the FAQ site for her as well as anything else I can find on the net. I had printed out some of your letters on this list and gave them to the other vet as well. I am going to hit the archives tonight for anything else that might be helpful. I don't think it is possible to give them too much information. If any of you have ANYTHING that you think might be helpful, please send it to me privately and I will add it to my collection of information. I think this woman is going to be a wonderful help to Lefty and Poncho in their battle against this thing and I really want to 'train her right'. Please send it to me as soon as you can since I will be taking Poncho in early tomorrow for her surgery. I feel that this is really important because there are so few vets in this area willing to treat these cats. Thanks. Angela. -------------------------------------- From: bmoermon@mail.state.wi.us To: "EMX -ownerfel (052)" Subject: RE: (Fwd) Re: FeLV, seizures, and possib Date sent: Mon, 4 May 1998 12:12:17 -0500 [Moermond, Barbara] Well, I spoke with my new vet at length about all the possibilities. She thinks it is unlikely to be clots causing the seizures because they were on such a regular schedule. (once about every 3 weeks) She also wasn't in favor of the phenobarb because she doesn't know what kind of damage Ninja's heart has sustained and she doesn't know why she is having these seizures, and there is the danger with phenobarb of inducing seizures with late or missed doses. I am also consulting with the UW-Madison vet school specialists. (Unfortunately, money is an issue. With all of the problems Ninja has been having, my savings has been cleaned out.) In April, the seizure pattern accelerated; 2 seizures at 2 weeks (the 15th) and then 5 seizures at 10 days(the 25th). I started Ninja on Prednisone last Thursday (30th) and I believe it has helped. The acceleration seems not to have been affected, but she only seized once (after the 25th, this was quite a relief). She gets very quiet and doesn't eat or drink or sleep. She just sits there, and when she does move, it's VERY slowly. She wouldn't take her medicine Sat. night (I give it in tuna) so I knew she wasn't feeling well. She was also VERY cranky. When she moved away from the dish of tuna and I put it by her, she swore at me! So Sunday, I tried to just put it down her throat. Not good. She started drooling (pre-seizure type) and her mouth is so little I just stopped. I went out and got a pill-shooter and tried again. Well, I got the pill down, and she didn't throw it up, but she seized in my lap. I don't know if she would have seized if I hadn't stressed her, but I couldn't let her miss another dose. Sunday night, it took a couple of tries, but I got another pill down and then brushed her (she likes it a lot) for about an hour. And this morning, she was feeling much better again. But she won't eat the pill in the tuna anymore, she eats around it! So, I figure that I will use the pill-shooter and give her tuna as a reward for being so good about her medicine. I am looking into Acemannan as a treatment for her, but I haven't heard back yet from the vet school (my new vet doesn't handle the newer meds, she refers them) about viability and cost etc. Interferon has also been suggested, but I have a feeling that it is prohibitively expensive. I was reading through messages this morning, and was amazed and hopeful when I read that Judy' Abby has been around for 12 years as a positive! That is wonderful! Glen, my heart goes out to you. I also am not much on organized religion, but I believe that certain things happen for a reason. I met Ninja about 4 years ago. She was with my ex-boyfriend and it was love at first sight (for Ninja and me). When we broke up, I got custody and I have always felt that that jerk and I were together so Ninja and I could get hooked up. Now, I believe that it was also so that Ninja could have her ending with someone who would take care of her. (From all of her behaviors I have witnessed over the years, she is imprinted on humans and was abused.) Glen, you have to believe that Tucker is in a better place, with no pain and plenty of turkey. You need to take care of yourself, whether you feel like it or not, until the sharpness of the pain is blunted by time. So, get some sleep and good luck on your finals. barb -------------------------------------- Date sent: Mon, 04 May 1998 19:08:25 -0400 From: Glen Zipper To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Final Thoughts on Tucker Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello Everybody, I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who expressed there sympathy for Tucker and Myself.
