Saturday May 2, 1998 Part 1 20 Messages ====================================== From: WORKPARK Date sent: Sat, 2 May 1998 04:53:02 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Rissa-Tai update 2 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Our regular vet called to give us the blood work results from earlier today. Her wbc is still in the normal range, 6000, but is down 600 from last week. She is still negative on the hemobart, but her pcv has dropped from the 23% last week back down to 18%. It's really frustrating, we were hoping it would continue to rise. Wish we knew what we were doing to make it go up then, as we could keep on doing it. My vet got a written report Thursday saying Chaz was negative after a verbal report saying he was positive. Now he has to go in Monday and get retest. He is beginning to hate the vet. Cheri G., Kitty & Chaz I would hate the vet as well, if I were these babies! I hope they can get the story straight for you and Chaz. Not knowing I think is worse than knowing for sure - then at least you can begin to plot your course of action. Tell him to think pink and negative!! When I lost my Duncan, I saw and trapped Jack, with the one eye. I thought he was feral and wild, but it turns out he had just been so abused by humans, he was afraid, but not wild. He will ready to join the rest soon and has settled in very nicely after a few weeks of feeling like a trapped tiger, he now realizes maybe life here won't be so bad. One lost, one saved. I like to think Dunc had something to do with it. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Sat, 2 May 1998 10:53:30 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Ambrotrose Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Angela, There is a write up on Ambrotose on our angelfire site. barb -------------------------------------- From: katseven@pcsia.com Date sent: Sat, 2 May 1998 07:15:46 -0600 Subject: Re: Tucker Has Left the Building To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Glen, I have been putting this off since reading your message yesterday. I know that death is more devastating if you are (as I am) ambivalent about the afterlife. It is no consolation right now, but Tucker has deepened your life, and just for that if for no other reason (and I know there are plenty) his life has meaning and he lives on in your heart, your soul, your mind. Even though I am ambivalent about traditional religion, I know that life is mysterious and the blessings of our fur companions' unconditional love is a powerful, metaphysical thing. I also know what you mean about being one who sends the terrifying message and becomes part of a "list." My Ernie also died an ugly death, and the images haunted me, but these images will eventually fade and you will begin to remember the sweet cat who graced your life. I am keeping good thoughts for you during your exams. Let us know how you are. Susan PS As for the humor, sometimes it gives us just the release we need. My husband and I have begun referring to Duncan, our new kitty, as Special Agent Duncan--a spy Ernie sent. -------------------------------------- From: GinaTex Date sent: Sat, 2 May 1998 13:44:14 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Rubin ceases to amaze us Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello all I would like to thank everyone for their letters of encouragement and support. Rubin had his weekly visit with Dr. Ader and the blood test results are a much better. His wbc is up to 19,200 from 700 and rbc to 25 from 14. His rbc is showing most of it still lyphocytes with 12% being acutally his own. But there is something happening in a possitive direction. He goes in Monday for treatment. She also said that it showed other stuff (which she named but it was over my head )that was not showing up before. Last weekend I left the office in tears and thought he would not make it past the weekend, but he has and has improved, his appetite is still good, he even started playing with toys. The only thing he has done that we where concerned with was pulling out his hair but Dr. Ader did not seem overly concerend, she said it could be fungal, bacterial, or behavioral. We want anyone and everyone who has ever questioned should they treat or not that look at Rubin's lifespan and know that treating is definetly worth it. We questined her about the interferon and that was a concidered option for him but she chose this other treatment because she needed to kill the lyphocytes in order for his own bone marrow to kick in. This cat still ceases to amaze us, 4 years ago he was half dead and came around, maybe that is what he is trying to do again. He still sleeps a great deal but that is ok, he is getting older and the anemia wears him down. We hope that he contiues to improve. I don't think I can do that. They are such good friends and they really enjoy each other. I guess I have to factor in quality of life too. Oh, well, I'll deal with that when it comes. Wouldn't he have those antibodies now? There is so much to consider, I know. But how about just feeding them spearately, to limit exposure. I would support your decision to keep them together because I know the heartache of separating the animals. Keep the faith, Cheri. You'll know in your heart what's best. When I had to make the decision to put my 21 yr old mom-cat to sleep 2 years ago, I also was able to get my vet to make a house call, and I was able to hold her while at the same time letting her go. Eventually the pain of the guilt and the grief will subside - always remember that you did the best you could with what you knew at the time. Learning more after the fact will never undo all the love you gave to Tucker, it will just allow you to do things differently in the future with another kitty. (Tucker will send you another one, and that is when you'll know that there is *something* after death, even if we never quite know *what* that may be.) For now - allow yourself to grieve, but also remember to live (and study). We're here for you anytime you need to talk, cry, vent, whatever - and we want to know how you do on your finals! Kat (New Jersey) PS - you might want to check out the following web-site: http://www.foreverpets.com/FP-Petloss.html They have pet memorial urns - I'm not sure there are any small enough to wear, but you could always put just a small amount of his ashes in a regular locket, and keep the rest in an urn. -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Sat, 2 May 1998 18:27:25 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Ambrotrose Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Saliha, Sorry, I thought there's how you joined the list.
