Thought you might find the info helpful. << Sorry for the delay in answering. There are several things that may be at work. There is likely some invasion of the stomach with her problem and the medications aggravate the problem. If the medications can be given with food, try this first. This will often resolve the problem as the stomach is not so irritated. If you are giving pills, coat them well with margarine or butter to disguise the taste. Let me know of any further developments. M. W. I have been closely following the discussion re this Mega C too. I would like to give it a try if there was even a little hope of it "fixing " my 3 babes. I know for fact that they have never been vaccinated & for that matter it is unlikely that their Mom or Dad were either as they were wild & trapped miles from any homes. I would hate to be a sucker but like you hate to pass up a good thing too. I would still like to get more documentation but don't know how likely it is that we will get some. Maybe tonite after I get my little one to sleep & tuck in Dopey the rabbit, I can find time to investigate that site a bit more. If it is not too expensive, then why not. I t probably can't hurt. Who knows; maybe I'll get a reply. I asked for any info they may have re Dr. Belfield's test results or the name of anyone I could talk to regarding treatment. I'll let you know if & when I hear back. I think my dog was treaated there many many years ago for cancer when treatments were very experimental.(25 years ago) Dana -------------------------------------- From: AskforArt Date sent: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 03:23:20 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Linda P Re: Mega C Plus Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Ann---The Mega C Plus is given by weight. A cat up to 7 pounds gets 1/4 teaspoon, 8 to 20 pounds 1/4 to 3/4 teaspoons, and for anyone with a seriously chubby baby, a cat that weighs between 20 and 50 pounds needs 1/2 to 11/4 teaspoons per day. One teaspoon provides 3000mg of Vitamin C. I started using this product about the same time I switched to purified water and processed food that was additive-free, and saw a big difference, but I don't know which of the three made the most difference. The Mega C makes the food oxidize very quickly, so Gretchen has to be *very hungry* and eat the food quickly or it will turn dark brown. I have 11 mixed pos and neg, some shy, some piggies, some picky, so the Mega C just didn't work too well for me. Not too long after that I switched to raw meat and Sojourner Farms mixture for their wet food, and Nutro Natural Cat for the dry. It's been over a year since I ordered the Mega C, and I don't remember how much I spent on it. I doubt it is horribly expensive, and don't think it would be a bad idea to try it. Didn't they have the prices listed on the order page of the website? I e- mailed the vet at the website altvetmed, and asked if they knew about the Belfield protocol. If they reply they will send the mail to James and he will post it to the list. They are right, don't spray on the cat. This stuff practically dries on concact. I put a small spray on my hand, then ran my hand down their tail. If any thing, the smell from my hand is all they got. I had no problems. but do make sure they are away when you spray woodwork or furniture. They could walk thru the mist. I had to wait til they were asleep, the MUST see what you are doing all the time. You will have to see a vet to know if you're dealing with this, and it's not easy to deal with. My vet sent me to an opthomologist to verify the herpes and the treatment involved weekly visits to the optho., extremely expensive meds, and 3 different drops. At the worst it was 8 times a day for the viroptic drop, 6 times for the second drop, 3 times a day for an ointment. CC was not very appreciative of any of this either. This has been her first 'symptom' since I discovered she was positive. I'd like to reiterate that I wouldn't just try things without checking with the vet first when dealing with the eye. In fact it was my 'holistic' vet that sent CC on to the opthomologist. My initial reaction (and there is much more to be followed up on) is that vets are against it and holistic people are for it! That said, cautions I have received so far include overdosing with Vit C can cause bladder and kidney problems, burning of the throat and esophagus, upset of the stomach. Through the years, people have made claims that megadoses of Vit C cures everything! They have claimed it would kill kennel cough, and that it would help with hip dysplacia and there is really no evidence to support that. I hope to have some further information coming from someone who has worked in the alternative medicine field and will post that as soon as I can. This morning I tried a test - I emailed Dr. Belfield (and apologized for using the order line to ask a question - :-) - and said that I had been reading his information on treating FeLV+ cats with Mega C and was wondering if, given the fact that FeLV is caused by a virus as is herpes, he has had any success with treating feline herpes patients with the same protocol. Will be interesting to see his (or daughter's) response, possibly giving us a clue as to his expertise and motivations, i.e. if Mega C is a "cure-all". I am not here to say use it or don't use it, but just to give you some idea of what I have found in the last couple of weeks. As I said, there is more to come!!! Hope everybody (and everykitty) has a great weekend! What are the claims being made? Nutriceuticals do not cure anything. They simply assist the body in curing itself. Some work well and others are filled with worthless hype. The Infinity2 company does studies to back its claims when it makes specific claims for efficacy. Otherwise only recommendations are made which have appeared to assist some people (or animals) with specific problems. Anyone making any stronger claims than this is suspect. The two MLM companies I deal with - Infinity2 and Oxyfresh - handle all of their claims for product in this manner. There are companies that do make unfounded outlandish claims and I do not deal with them. The person who actually creates a proven cure for feline leukemia virus will be a very rich individual. However, he will have to use the scientific research method to prove the claim, not anecdotal evidence as there are a significant number of cats that clear themselves of the virus (or put it into remission) by themselves with no assistance from us at all. At the risk of sounding redundant, keep it coming in. If we could come up with about $600-$700 more, we can get the system as well as a large monitor! If those who previously indicated they wished to contribute, could see their way clear to do so (within your means) and have not yet done so, we may well get to the goal. That does not mean to say that I will not accept contributions from anyone who did not indicated their willingness to do so. I will accept contributions from anyone (so long as it was obtained legally, of course). The light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. Further, do not use Vitamin C that is not "Ester C" or ascorbate at all, as it will be too acidic and will cause stomach and esophagus problems. -- Steve -------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Vit C Date sent: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 13:24:24 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Steve, Vitamin C Crystals (Pure L-Ascorbic Acid) is that safe to use ? .mg. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 10:52:51 -0500 (CDT) From: "Nancy A. To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Howling Kitty Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Please let me begin by saying I'm new to the list. I simply don't know who else to turn to. Two weeks ago, best friend Howling Kitty was diagnosed with FeLv. He had always been a heavy boy but lost a lot of weight very quickly. His appetite has virtually disappeared and all grooming has ceased. He is a very sick baby (he has anemia). The vet has him on 1cc of interferon daily with prednizone and antibiotics. His next visit to the vet is on Monday. He exists merely on deli sliced turkey (the only thing he'll eat). I need some pointers on getting the pills down his throat daily. It really is a battle and it seems to take away any interest at all in food. The most distressing thing of all is that he is now EATING cat litter!! What can I do to stop this? I can't be with him every minute and I've caught him doing it three or four times. I'm afraid and sad for him. I love him, is there any way to stop this and get him to eating again? Sorry for the wordiness of this but I have two other babies and I have segregated them from their friend as they have not yet tested positive. Maybe I can help all three if I at least know what I'm looking at here. He won't be interested in eating it. The clay-eating is related to mineral deficiencies, including iron, which is part of the anemia. Try dipping the pills in Flaxseed oil (from the refridgerator section of a health food store) or something else that is slippery, non-toxic, and tasty, even the oil from a can of sardines. Try giving the pills after he has eaten so there will be something in his stomach besides the pills (unless the vet wants the meds given on an empty stomach).
