I'm using the broth as a supplement to Selena's protocol. I give her 2 divided doses of 15 cc's (ml) AM and PM. I use the feeding syringe to deliver the goods, and right before serving it I add the Vit C, Ambrotose. Her appetite for solid food has returned, but I am also following the rest of Frazier's vitamins as prescribed for anti-stress & Interferon q 3 days. The DMG dose is 50mg per day and to really torment your Vet and his eager staff, you could ask them to order this in liquid form from Vetri-Science it's much easier to administer and not too expensive. I'm not using it anymore, both times and both forms (tab and liquid) caused the same malaise in Selena- so ixney on the ottenrey.I am intrigued with the Mega C, and will go back to that website and read all the literature and the sales pitch. I did read the Pet Food article and it surprises me that we are surprised by the propaganda put out there by the pet food industry, the tobacco industry, the drug industry, disinformation is not as good as datinformation... buyer beware ! Things have improved for Rissa-Tai, at least a little bit. Her bloodwork came back although they still have not received her Protein Electrophoreses. As far as her cbc goes, her wbc is at 3400, which is up from 3100 from last week. Her lymphocytes have improved, but the neutraphils have gone down (can anyone explain to me what this means?). The vet suggested a possibility of using Neupogen again to help her along, but mentioned that she didn't think the Oncologist liked to use it unless a cat was down to 2000 or less. Also, Neupogen uses it's effectiveness with repeated use, and eventually won't work anymore. That's probably why they wait until it gets very low. Her pcv was at 18%, up from 17% last week. Her platelets are now showing "adequate" which they were showing as less than adequate last week, and the Hemobart is still negative. The vet said the Hemobart could return, which isn't unusual, and we may have to deal with it again in the future. Her rbc has gone up to 2.4 from 2.2, so her body is still trying to regenerate new cells. Her Hemoglobin is also up. So, she has improved, even if only a little. We're happy to hear all this. You wouldn't believe the change in her personality since her pcv has improved from the 11%. Her tongue looks nice and pink instead of brownish-pink, she is more social, eats more, is more alert, and we even got her to play with the wire toy with the little cardboard floaty things on it (I guess it's supposed to be like flying bugs or something). This, of all things, is what made our day today - she hasn't played with anything or even showed any interest in playing for a few months now. She also is still a purr machine, and is even romping a little with Lai-Tai. We are going to enjoy this for as long as we can. What I can say to everyone else is that we are very glad we didn't give up when we thought she was going to go any day. Hopefully, she'll stay like this for a nice long while. We wish the same for all of your fur babies as well. I'll keep everyone updated as to how she is doing. The chemo could be what is causing the low wbc. Normal wbc is 5500 to 19500, so Rubin's is quite low, and he should be checked once a week to see if this changes at all. The Oncologist I work with suggests Neupogen to help get that wbc back up if the cat falls to around 2000. It works really fast, and is a good way to improve the situation. You might want to also find out if they can change the frequency of the chemo or the strength. We will still be experimenting with this with our vet once Rissa-Tai is back up to at least 5500. Until then, I think we are holding off with any more chemo. The Oncologist is checking on weaker doses that we can give, but with the same frequency to see if that will work. I'll keep the list posted with anything new I find out, and this way we can compare notes. As Ann also asked, has anyone used this supplement? Any other proof other than the author of the article has that will convince us to add this to our positive cats' diet? Jim, maybe we should forward this to Dr. Myers to see what he says. Let me know if you'd like me to do this. If there is any proof to this, we should know about it. My fear is that this is just an advertisement to get us to by and offer false hope. If anyone knows differently, please post ASAP. It leads me to believe the info at the site regarding the Mega C is somewhat of a crock since most of our cats have received the immunization. And, according to what you posted, they say it won't work on FeLV immunized cats. Makes no sense, just causes further frustration. Why isn't this info then posted at the site so we can get all the info at once? When I read it, it sounded too good to be true(& you know what they say about something being too good to be true)Is Gretchen vaccinated for FelV ? Susan -------------------------------------- From: AskforArt Date sent: Tue, 21 Apr 1998 12:41:08 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Mega C Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Pam--I had purchased the book when I found the website. The book was published in 1983, and I don't believe it references the possibilty that vaccinated cats were not able to be cleared of FeLV, because the vaccine was in experimantal stages in 1982. I think another part of the problem may be FDA restricitions on making claims about "curing" diseases. When he first found out that Vit C might useful in treating FeLV he took two groups (3 each) of postive cats and divided them. One group was given an oral vitamin and mineral supplement without C. The other group was given the same thing, with C. The first group tested negative within 6 months, while the second group still tested positive. The second group was then treated and cleared of leukemia within six months. There are several variables that must be kept in mind here. There are 5 levels of FeLV. At levels one and two a cat can reverse the disease on its own. At levels three and four, the cat has the disease, and at level five, active involvement of the bone marrow occurs. The cats he used may all have been at the first two levels. I didn't re-read the entire text, but I don't recall any reference to the type of test used ( the IFA test may not have been invented at this point in time), so the status of those cats may not have been known. The book I have been reccomending "The Natural Remedy Book for Cats and Dogs" by Diane Stein makes reference to Dr. Belfield's protocol on page 199. It explains in detail how to dose the cat. I'm sorry I didn't think to mention this is my earlier posts. I wasn't a part of the list when I found this information, and since I had vaccinated my cats (they got the disease FROM the vaccines), I mentally and physically put the information away. Also, in the Stein book, she addresses the issue of quality and length of life, stating "...cats treated with holistic methods have been known to revert to negative status and become totally free of the disease...Cats who eventually die of feline leukemia live longer and far more comfortably with holistic treatment, and they die without pain." In clinical trials mice have had a 50% extension of life span. It is related to overall general health, and specifically to heart health. It may be instrumental in the immune system as well. People whose CoQ10 levels drop below the 25% defciency level start to show signs of compromised health, including immune system depression. It is available in tablets or capsules. I have read that theraputic doses of 90 mg per day are reccomended for adult humans, and down to 10 mg per day for health maintainance. Some doctors even say not to take it because enough clinical trials have not been completed. I think maybe some more research on the net might be of help on this one. It comes in capsule form. There are 2 web sites that can provide you with more info: http://www.mresources.co.uk/q10/intro-1.html http://www.doglogic.com/coq10arndt.htm I haven't used it on any of my animals, but the 2nd site talks about animals, so it has been done. The schedule Im using is 3x the first week IV, 2x the second and third weeks IV, then once a month IV for a couple god willing. We were hoping that the pred/immunoregulin combo would help his anemia. He's had two doses so far and I really haven't noticed any changes. He seems to be OK other than just being a little tired and feverish, but thats nothing new. Unfortunately, He's caught his second cold (sniffles & sneezing)since the diagnosis a few months back and he's back on anti-biotics again to treat it. Also, Ive noticed a new problem: he's losing hair around the perimeter of one of his eyes. Any ideas out there?
