If you knew how nervous I was about approzching the vet about all this, you'd be surprised that I didn't start crying or something, as I hate causing conflict. But, thanks anyway. I guess that degree I have in counseling came to some good after all :) Pam -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 18:27:26 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Rissa-Tai Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Pam, Maybe she was just tired of all the pills. Last Thanksgiving day I lost baby Alice to Felv(as result of my stupidity & ignorance topped with misinformation from a vet). Now, Tessie, Alice's mom is showing strong symptoms since January. Tessie had a blood trasfusion about two months ago, and the vet was fairly sceptical about long term benefits of Interferon/ImmunoRegulin treatment. Her prognosis was that within a few months most cats developed resistance to the treatment. Tessie was reasonably healthy after the transfusion but about two weeks ago, she began losing more weight, and having difficulty breathing. My repeated pleas @ the vets for help got me nothing but a reccomendation for "lethal injection". A front desk clerk was kind enough to tell me I was wasting their time and my money. So, I searched the net and found James Wilson.who spent a great amount of time directing information and support,so that I could get Tessie on Interferon/ImmunoRegulin. Her first treatment was yesterday, and last night had a rough time but today appears ok. Eating well, drinking plenty, grooming, kidneys ok, Except her breathing is very labored. I'd like to get a hold of some Epogen. If anyone on the list can help me locate some would be greatly appreciated. I live in a small town in Wa. & there's none here. I need to know how to get her red cell level up w/out a transfusion. I'm afraid she;s not strong enough to survive one now. I think that we mentioned ACIDOPHILUS.. available at Health Food Stores in capsule form, and is also available in liquid. Just make sure that the stuff you get is not suspended in milk or lactose. Oddly enough, extreme dehydration can also produce diarrhea. Good luck with the little one- I'm already in love with the li'l scrapper. The capsule is opened and sprinkled on food, give this little terror a kiss from me ! .marilyn. -------------------------------------- From: "Equinox Corp." I won't risk reccommeding a dose but please check it out .It worked well in Alice's case. Also, please consider Serum shots given un critical within minutes. Please keep me posted, though I do think the serum is your best bet. Good luck. They may have to send for it and you should be able to get it overnight. Tell them to put a rush on it. OR if you have hospital in town, you may be able to get it there. But remember this about epogen, it does not work overnight. It may take 2 to 6 wks. to begin producing results. Usually, if no improvement is seen in 3 wks, they up the dose. Your cat may need another transfusion in there just to give the med time to work. Good luck barb ps. I was very relieved to read that your cats lungs were ok. I have lost two to a mysterious lung condition felv cats get where the chest cavity fills up with fluid and compresses the lungs. When I read he was having trouble breathing, I feared it was that. So glad it was not. -------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Rainbow Bridge...... Date: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 18:13:16 -0700 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I am writing in regards to the Rainbow Bridge. I have great respect for those that belive in this. It is really a beautiful beleif. Please do not take this wrong but I believe in the Lord God and when we (and our beloved kitties die) that He will take care of us. This is just my opinion and you can take it or leave it. I just don't think that when I die that I am going to a place called "Rainbow Bridge". I believe that God has made us, our Creator, and that we will go to a place called "Heaven"! Praise God! God created our kitties and I do believe that He will take care of them. In the Bible, the Lion will lay down with the lamb, so you see, there will be animals in heaven. I think Heaven is a much more realistic and a certain place that we will all go to those who believe. Our kitties, our cats, our babies, are with Jesus. You see, He made them.:) All of you that belive in the Rainbow Bridge, I think that is very hopeful and will give you a great happiness. I am just telling you my feeling on this sensitive subject. I do not mean to offend anyone but this subject has kind of upset me. I just thought I would "voice my opinion" on this subject. "Oh, know, it's that crazy lady again.:) I'm really not that waco. I am actually a very normal, functional woman.:)...........Love you all!!!!!.............Lynn(Stinker -------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Marylin: NutraCal Date: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 18:37:36 -0700 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Who are we to trust? Our veterinarians sell us this stuff that is suppose to be "good for our kitties". I don't understand. Who are we to trust? Evendentally, nor our vets. But, I do believe that they aren't aware of all of this. My vet would never hurt my cat intintionally. I was a strong advocate of the Nutra Cal. It helped my kitty alot. Is there that much harmful additives? Kind of confused.:{ And if NuralCal is dangerous to our kitties, why is it being sold to us? Who are we to trust? My Stinker kitty, as some of you know was doing so very good! The other night, I was gone for the whole evening. I somehow needed some human company. Well, when I got home, Stinker was vomiting and sick. You must know the guilt that I felt. I let his stomach rest for the afternoon. He did eat his expensive turkey baby food.:) What I am trying to say is that your absense really hurts them. I feel when you neglect them for even an hour, the leukemia shows it's ugly face. You will never know the guilt I felt for leaving him, even for one night. DON'T EVER LEAVE YOUR LEAUKEMIA CAT FOR A MOMENT!!!. I have learned this the hard way and I know that abandoneding(not intentionally) will bring on the Leukiemia. I just pray now and a world of hope that I didn't hurt my cat! I love him more than life itself! I kind of think he will be alright.:) I Love Him So!..................Lynn(Stinker) -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 22:45:15 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Rainbow Bridge...... There are many things that are harmful to us all. But the amounts do make a difference. I am puzzled why a company would sell a product that kills off its customers. Perhaps we need to just write the company and ask them straight out to clear this up. barb -------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Rissa-Tai Date sent: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 19:00:37 -0400 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Pam, that's wonderful news about Rissa-Tai ! .marilyn. -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 23:03:44 EDT To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: (Fwd) RE: Tessie & anemia Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Saliha, I wish had more ideas. Sometimes, when our backs are to the wall, we have to take a chance. She prob is having trouble breathing due to lack of O2 carrying red blood cells. My only other idea would be that if your vet will allow you to hold her, and not sedate her for the transfusion. That would make it less stressful and dangerous. If you decide to try that, have the epogen in hand to give the first dose right with the transfusion. I don't know what else to tell you, but I will keep my brain working during the night. I guess, if you could get some oxygen on her, but that would be tough, that might help. take care and I will check back in in the morning. barb -------------------------------------- From: "Cheri Gardiner" To: Subject: Re: New addition to the FAQ sheet Date sent: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 17:03:08 -0600 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I'm having trouble getting to the nutrition page Pam wrote. You have definitely come to the right place for help. There is a lot of information here as well as moral support. You might want to try Nutrical for the vitamins. It's a pasty vitamin supplement for cats that they will usually lick right off your finger, and if they don't you can just stick it on their paw or something, so they'll just lick it off there. You should be able to get it at the vet, and if your vet doesn't have it just go into another vet and ask about it. You don't need a prescription from the vet for it (the vet that I work at doesn't require one anyway.) There's a couple others similar to that also that we carry at work, but I don't really know too much about those. I think one of the names is Felovite-actually I think this one comes in a liquid form and a paste form. I can check on Monday and see what everything is. I use the Nutrical for Keigan, and he loves it. I'll let you know Monday night what I find out. I hope Lefty starts feeling better! I'm so glad you didn't have either of them put to sleep.
